  1. That pier at GT is sooooo long your friend will be thrilled to have that scooter.

Regarding shops etc. If there is anything at the threshhold it will be very slight. No more than what they will encounter on the ship. Every port I've used my scooter in has been extremely scooter friendly.

There is a HUGE great pool there. It has one of those sloped entry area. I have trouble walking but am able to get in the pool there. My hubby stands beside me while entering and exiting "just in case."

  2. Concierge? Not on Carnival. If you want early access to your cabin or the dedicated GS line, you will need FTTF.

We've had an OS on our last 6 cruises and our room is always ready. We always arrive early as possible. And we were told to use the special line at GS. I have only used it once as I haven't had a need more than that.

  3. We stay in an ocean suite all the time and I see no need to purchase FTTF. With suite you get special line or lounge to check in at the port, on the ship right after weddings and Diamond card holders, your cabin is ready when you get on the ship, special line at service desk. What else do you really need? BTW we have stayed in an OS on our last 6 cruises and love the extra room and dressing room with extra closets and drawer space.

  4. For us its several things. First I don't think I can look at another Farcas designed ship for a whole week. Just too gaudy to put up with. We prefer the decor of the Breeze but have sailed on her 3 times. We are tired of the same itineraries. How many times can one go to Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Grand Turk? We are also liking the idea of more dining choices, especially for dinner. Carnival is lacking there and it all started with American Table. BLEH!! And just the idea of a new adventure is exciting to us. We have a LOT of Carnival cruises under our belts so we get a few perks. Those few perks and lower prices just aren't enough to make me book a cruise. I won't spend thousands more but will spend a few hundred more for a new experience, ports, restaurants and overall experience.

  5. Another consideration is type of cabin. Someone else mentioned the step to get into the bathroom. If he is in an ocean suite (which is roomier and works well with a scooter) they have a bathtub. I have mobility issues and it is horrible trying to get into the tub to use the shower. I would NEVER RISK that with a newly "fixed" hip.

Our best friends who cruise with us had a mobility issue this past january. Husband has a very hard time walking . He's also very stubborn about accepting any form of help. She rented a scooter for him and didn't tell him. It was in his cabin upon arrival. He used it and was grateful for it. He was able to keep up with everyone and it made everyone elses trip a pleasure too. Just a thought for you. You might remind him the Breeze is about 1000 feet long. Could he walk 1/5 of a mile?

  6. We've been on 20 cruises but never on NCL. Will probably book a cabin that offers 2 choices of the FREE stuff. Will choose free drinks and dinners. My question is....What restaurants are included? Another question would be....Which restaurants on the Escape are no charge?

How formal is dinner? Will nice slacks and a fancy top do for me? Dress pants and long sleeve dress shirt for hubby?

  7. For being a return Carnival cruiser, you are given a free "drink coupon"...the catch is, they must be used on the LAST night and AFTER 5pm. I attempted to get my free drink, but the pool bar would not accept them. We were told to go to the casino...so we were off.

We managed to get our free drinks and all was good while we hung out and people watched for awhile.

I ran into Thrilled in the casino and told her I needed to go back to the room to finish packing. She told me that the luggage needed to be out by 10:45 she thought. Oops, I'm a little late. Well hopefully they would still take them.

I had an entire glass to drink and I guzzled it down and stumbled back to the room.

WE MISSED IT! There wasn't a single luggage sitting outside for miles. Darnit. We are going to be forced to lug our luggage around all morning with us...and with a 9 year old. I can't believe this. I know with NCL, I think they want luggage out between 11-12 midnight. But you can always find a hall full of luggage still sitting out there after that and plenty of employees still gathering them. This time, the halls were empty and not a sole in sight. The entire staff went into hiding I tell ya.

I actually tried calling housekeeping and even the customer service desk. No answer from either...the multiple times I called. Ok, I was just going to suck it up. No Aruba picture, only pizza to eat, and I'll be lugging my luggage around all day tomorrow.

I finished my packing with my bottom lip stuck out and we headed to bed between 12:30-1am. NOT excited for tomorrow to come.

I'm ALWAYS late putting our luggage out but they always get it. Mine goes out by midnight. Next time don't worry. BTW until our last 3 or 4 cruises the time was always announced to be out by midnight.
  8. Several years ago we were on a Carnival ship and I was having a hard time. That was before I got my own wheelchair and scooter. We were docked at Nassau and I asked at GS about renting a wheelchair for the day. The charge was $85 for the day. I declined. I am a cheapskate and thought that was an exhorbatant amount for one day. i suffered thru and made it back to the ship just fine. I'm not sure if they still rent them. ......I would take my own or a scooter if I were you. Those ships are so big now. Its a long walk from the MDR to the showroom and worse if you are in a hurry.

  9. We cruised out of FLL in January. One of our travelling companions needed a scooter so I made the reservation on-line with Special Needs at Sea. All the paper work that needed to be filled out and the reciept all said Care Vacations so I guess they are one and the same. BTW the scooter was NOT in the cabin when we arrived. Had to make several calls. They insisted they delivered one to his cabin yadda, yadda, yadda. No one at Carnival knew anything. Finally 15 minutes before we sailed and after at least 6 phone calls they delivered one. We were quite disappointed with their service but you have no other choice.

  10. Yes I received it and completed it. Almost instantly after submitting it my HUSBAND gets a Premier Casino Offer. Go figure. I spend the big bucks at the tables and he gets offers for piddly play at the slots. Makes no sense. I do 3 or 4 grand at the tables and he spends a measly $500 bucks on slots and they offer him Free drinks in casino and free play. I hate their strategy.

  11. With $100. I wouldn't even play the slots. Play on a table. Maybe the $5 Let It Ride table. If you haven't played before it is a super easy game to play. Find it online and play before you go. Otherwise I'd spend my money on drinks.

  12. Get in the car NOW and drive. Don't forget a snow shovel and a bag of sand or kitty litter for traction. Just saying. Call in sick to work if you have to. A closed airport for one day alone will put them wayyyy behind in finding you a new flight......if and when.

This will be a HUGE thread by the week-end.

  13. I love to "look" at all the gorgeous pieces they have under those enhancing halogen lights. There aremany pieces that I wish were mine but I would never pay the prices they ask. I suppose my age and experience have guided me right on out the door. That being said, my nephew and his wife just returned from their first Carnival cruise. Yep they fell for the bs and bought her a beautiful unusual ring. I just hope my face didn't show my shock when she told me what they paid for the ring. I just kept telling her how much I loved it. I really do love the ring, just not at that price. I hope it holds up for many years.

My advice to anyone thinking about purchasing jewelry onboard isto do some shopping around on land and get an idea of prices before you sail. As far as returns, thats another reason I'd never purchase from them.

  14. This may sound mean but I would hope your grandmother was worth more to you than $900. I would be ashamed of myself for being so selfish. Of course she would NEVER tell you to stay home. No grandma would. Thats what grandmas do. I would never want to regret being there for a dying relative.

To answer your question, I hope Carnival gives you every penny back (but they won't) so you don't feel so bad.

  15. Thank you all so much for your replies. They give me a lot to think about. I'm going to get my daughter to go with me to look at scooters and actually try taking one apart. I couldn't lift 50 pounds but I will inquire about a hoist. I do appreciate any input.

I had a lift installed on the back of my car. Best thing I did. I can now go where ever I want all by myself. It takes less than 2 minutes to load or unload from the lift. I've timed it. The lift wasn't cheap (actually it was more than my Pride Victory 10) The lift was about $1800. plus I had to have a hitch installed which was about $150. So for about $3600. I got the hitch, lift and scooter at my local medical supply place. They were willing to match any price. I didn't feel comfortable ordering one online.

  16. On my most recent trip 3 weeks ago I checked with the desk clerk when I checked my luggage at the airport. She made a call to make sure I could ride it to the plane. She said that its not possible on all planes. You may need to check it with your luggage (no charge) and ask for wheelchair assistance. That being said, I WAS able to ride mine right to the airplane door and I only had to wait a couple minutes after the last passenger departed for my scooter to appear at the door again. At FLL airport specifically they have shuttle busses that have a place for you on the bus. You ride the scooter right onto the bus and they tie it down before other passengers get on. Allow yourself extra time for all of this. Around the ship was no problem except for the rude passengers who totally ignore your presence. People will walk right in front of you like you are invisible. That happens pretty much everywhere not just the ships. I rode mine right into the dining room and parked it right by the door. I am able to walk short distances. Dining room staff was great about it.

  17. How about taking an insulated folding cooler? Mine looks like a big purse. Have the room steward fill it every day and store your meds there. Mine keeps ice for a good 12 hours. I have them fill it twice a day.

My friend keeps hers in the room fridge. Its always very cold.
