  1. hcat, we have a long haul from CA to FL so don't want to add more travel getting to the Fort Lauderdale.  I called the Holiday Inn directly and little better rate but still almost $500 w/tax.  They offer a shuttle to the port for $10 pp which would be convenient especially since it's Super Bowl Sunday and don't not want to count on Uber's availability or a taxi.  We could do the Feb. 16 cruise but it's President's Day week so maybe too many kids.  Also some of the other cruise dates have a higher fare so six of one half a dozen of another.

  2. VT, thanks for the deck plan.  I believe it's from The Luxury Cruise Company site and I can see the bed notches.  We might not be getting that cabin since we  may have to change the cruise date.  I booked Feb. 2 and just found out that's Super Bowl Sunday and it's in Miami.  There are no hotel rooms available in the Ft. Lauderdale area unless we want to pay $550 for the Holiday Inn Express so back to the drawing board.

Also, I remember you being in an aft cabin and was wondering if it gets a lot of sun during the day.

  3. I think SV 11275 has bed by bath but no notch on the deck plan like with IV cabins.  Can anyone confirm?  We prefer bed by slider but this cabin is in the center so looks like larger balcony space.  Other SV options are more to the sides.

We had and IV with bed by veranda on May/June Med cruise and enjoyed laying in bed and looking at the sea although the space was cramped.  If bed was by the bath seems there would not be as easy access to the closet.  We would like to try an SV with regular balcony and aft view..  This is for Feb. Western Caribbean so it will probably be sunnier than it was in the Med and also we'll be on the ship more with this itinerary.   We don't do sun so wondering if it might be too hot and sunny on the SV balcony during the day.

In general Celebrity doesn't have as many kids as Carnival or Royal Caribbean, but Presidents Day week will have more kids than surrounding weeks, probably about the same as prime spring break time in March.

I avoid cruising Presidents Day week on all cruise lines.

Thanks for confirming what I thought.  We were just on the Edge on the May/June Med cruise and loved the ship IV and all.  We only saw a few small children and didn't even notice any teenagers.  I'm sure more into the summer there will be more families traveling.

  5. Keith, very much enjoyed following you and Ann Marie's great adventure on Serenity and now on to your first river cruise.  We've never done a river cruise so look forward to hearing about your experience.  We did a land trip to Vienna and Budapest and enjoyed them both.  If you would like Italian food one night I highly recommend Trattoria Toscano La No.  The owners and wait staff are from Italy and the food was as good as we've had in Italy.  It was so good we went back a second night.  We were surprised to find such a great Italian restaurant in Vienna.  It's very close to the Spanish Riding School which is something you don't want to miss.  When we were there the Vienna Boys' Choir also performed and it was a most memorable experience.  Also, not to be missed are the stables.

One reason we like cruising is that you are able to unpack everything. If I wanted to keep things in suitcase I would do a land vacation. Laundry is not a good option for my drip dry tops, as the super hot water they use in laundry would ruin them. I do use the dry cleaners. I think the answer for Celebrity is not to cut down on current storage which has worked very well, especially on Solstice class with the over the bed storage, so much less to hang. We do have all wooden hangers and robes removed to give us more space.

Hadn't read anything before about Celebrity's guest laundry being washed in extra hot water.  Has anyone had shrinkage issues especially with 100% cotton?   Would hate to send out laundry and have clothes not fit when returned especially when trying to pack light.

Also mentioned was the $49.95 bulk laundry charge.  Considering the high price how big is the bag?

  7. We'll definitely be needing laundry done on our 11 night Med cruise on the Edge.  Is there a bulk laundry option or will it  be charged by the piece?   I know dry cleaning is by the piece and hope that's not the case for washed laundry.

  8. I did read those posts about the transient vibrations but they were not very concerning.  I'm sure if there are future aft vibrations issues someone will post.   Our May cruise will be our first on Celebrity so we can't compare to S or M class and just keeping an open mind with the Edge.  We booked that cruise for the itinerary that has some of our favorite ports and a few new ones.  Have a great time on your return to the Edge.  Look forward to your posts and pics.

  9. I think we'll do the Key West/Cozumel/Costa Maya/Grand Cayman itinerary the reason being there are only two sea days not three like the San Juan/Tortola/St./Maarten and San Juan is only 3:30 pm-11:00 pm so would just spend a few hours there before dinner or maybe not even get off the ship.  I've been to San Juan and St. Maarten many years ago on land trips and would enjoy the St. Maarten stop but prefer less sea days so we could at least get off the ship for a bit.  Wouldn't mind snorkeling but not a must do.  This cruise would just be a get away in December for some relaxation and warmer weather.  We live in CA so no shortage of warm weather although we do get cooler weather and some rain in the winter.

  10. VT, was hoping you would chime in and happy to have your seal of approval.  We've never sailed in an aft cabin since concerns about vibrations that we've experienced on smaller ships in public area and always booked mid-ship for less movement.  Since Edge is a larger and new ship I would not anticipate any serious vibrations and haven't read that this has been an issue.  It's hard to resist the nice size real balcony and those aft views.  I'm going to snag 11272 for Caribbean in December.  I can decide in May when we're in an IV if it's one and done but, hopefully, not.

  11. Look forward to following along.  We also live in the OC so many great restaurants here for foodies.  It will be interesting to hear you reviews of the MDR's and speciality restaurants.  This will be our first Celebrity cruise and we're on the May 25 Rome/Rome cruise so five months to go.

  12. When trying to book a one day Thermal pass you have to choose an entry time.  The options are from 8:00 am-10:15 am in 15 minute increments.  I called Celebrity and was told those times didn't mean anything and I could enter at any time and the pass is for all day.  Since sea days are not listed as being available, I would book the pass on a port day when we would  leave the ship for a few hours in the morning and I could use the pass in the afternoon.   Does this sound accurate or did I get more misinformation?

  13. I read comments that when the IV window is down the AC goes off in the cabin but would like to know if the bifold doors are closed and the IV window is down does the AC stay on in the cabin?

If towels in other cabins are not cotton what would they be?  I thought all towels are cotton.:classic_unsure:

Caroak - The Deck Plan definitely has 11173 with the bed by the balcony.  I guess it's possible that it is wrong, but then all the  Concierge cabins on the Port side from 11125 - 11195 would be wrong since they alternate.

Thanks for checking and reconfirming what I thought.  I called Celebrity three times and each time I was told the bed is by the bathroom but the agents I spoke to had to put me on hold and check so I wasn't confident with their information.  I found most of their agents are not well informed and lack sufficient training.   I think the bed by the balcony cramps up that area.  The bed by the bathroom at least opens it up more and you can relax on the couch with a view.  Those chairs and tiny table are a joke.  We like breakfast on the veranda when we have to leave early for a tour which will be most days on our Europe cruise.  Might have to eat off a tray on the bed but I never did like breakfast in bed.:classic_ohmy:

It may be too early .... They added one to our cruise - ours was 10-12 - there was another one from 9-11 added later. I booked ours a few months in advance and it is showing up on our January cruise.

That's something DH would enjoy so I'll keep checking so I can book it for him while I'm enjoying my massage and spa time.

Just want to thank you for all your efforts and all the time you've spent on behalf of all us Edgies.  You've provided a wealth of information, photos and all kinds of useful tips.  Hope you're now warm and snuggly in Vermont and healing from your injury.  I remember those cold winters when I skied at Killington especially those early morning first runs before the mountain was mostly ice.    Now in sunny CA and a cold weather wimp with the skis being hung up for good although I do miss it but getting too old to risk an injury.

We've in a Concierge IV - 11173 - and in checking the deck plan it looks like the bed is by the balcony (ug!) but when I've called several times to ask they tell me it's by the bathroom (yeah!).  When you can a change could you check the deck plan.  I defer to your Edge expertise.  Thanks.
