  1. We are sailing on the Pride from Baltimore to the Caribbean this August. What is the likelihood of an itinerary change due to hurricanes? We don’t actually mind a change but are curious how often this actually happens in August. Anyone have any experiences to share?

Last year due to the number of hurricanes, there were numerous changes.

Unless you have a crystal ball, no one could possibly answer this question.

  2. I feel like the price drops aren't a good deal anymore. Seems as though they've added so many categories that i never qualify.

    :o

More like with cruising so popular, Carnival doesn’t need to have sales or lower prices to fill their ships.

If you were happy with the price when you booked it, then “fretting” over a price drop is unnecessary. Should you check for price drops, sure. Should you expect price drops, not in today’s cruise market.

  3. Most people who remove the gratuities to pay them in cash fall into one of two groups.

    1. Cheapskates who say they're removing gratuities to pay in cash but have no intention of doing so.

    2. People who get some sort of thrill out of seeing the looks on workers faces when they hand them cash.

    Exactly correct !

  4. On my cruise I tried to buy photographs with cash but they wouldn't accept it. I was told they only accept the S&S card. I don't know if that's normal.

We brought $200 cash for souvenirs, food in the airports, tips, etc. and it really wasn't enough. Souvenirs in the ports and airport food were very expensive.

There are only 3 uses for cash on cruise ship:

    • Casino
    • Guest services/kisok
    • Tips - however if you remove your gratuities to tip in cash, you cannot possibly tip all those behind the scenes who work to make your vacation happen

The Sign & Sail card is required for everything else.

  5. Based on some of the comments here, especially where posters expect the Carnival customer representative to "warn" them, I shutter to think how badly those same posters get taken advantage of when they purchase a car (or similar item)

    OUCH !

Remember, the Carnival reps are salespeople and they have their jobs with the expectation from Carnival that they generate revenue for the company, 1st and foremost ! Buyer Beware !

  6. Each cabin will receive their own copy of the Fun Times.

Recommend that each cabin group browse for activities that appeal to them.

Groups with the same interest(s) can coordinate to share those activities together, if desired.

When at home, I doubt they expect a single person to direct their daily activities (https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2619787)

  7. Like I said, just annoyed. I don’t think it would have hurt them to tell me that. Especially since I use a PVP. Lesson learned.

You have to research the requirements and perks (OBC, lower deposit amount, etc) of the rate you intend to book under. Failure to do so yields the results you are complaining about. You can only be annoyed at yourself for failure to do so.

"Terms & Conditions" is a must read section.

  8. As myself and others have stated - Carnival breaks their rules frequently:

Not only I have changed the name on an Early Saver booking (did have to pay the $50 fee) but I have moved an Early Saver booking to an entirely different cruise (Carnival transferred the deposit to the new cruise on different ship and charged me $50 per person to move from one Early Saver rate to an Early Saver rate on an entirely different ship.)

And I didn't have to beg, just asked nicely both times.

  9. So I leave next Saturday April 7 for my cruise. I was just released from the hospital and have to have an ERCP procedure on Wed April 4. I am PRAYING I’ll be ok but worst case I have to cancel, anyone know what my chances will be for reimbursement from Allianz Travel Insurance???

    Thanks

Since we have no clue what coverage you purchased, any "guesses" we make have a high probability of being inaccurate.

  10. OK, so now we have 2 threads because Carnival hasn't responded fast enough to satisfy you on specialty restaurant reservations.

And looking at the initial post on this thread, one can surmise it doesn't take much to set you off enough that you need to vent.

Hopefully you will get your reservations confirmed shortly or you may need another thread to vent ??

  11. The prices quoted are the average price when 4 people book: first 2 at regular price, 2nd 2 at reduced price. So when you total the 4 fares, then divide by 4 it yields a lower average price.

Work thru a mock booking for the cabin with 2 and then 4 occupants, you will see the first 2 fares are the same either way.

  12. We booked our upcoming cruise with early saver rate. I was doing a mock booking to check for price drops. I was excited to find that our rate has dropped $25 per person.

However, once I got to the final total, the taxes and port fees had increased so much that the cruise actually now costs more if I try and claim the price reduction!

Quite frustrated right now. Thanks for letting me vent.

Expecting price drops in this day and age with how popular cruising is might be unrealistic.

For the vast majority of cruisers, the price rises as the date of the cruise approaches.

If you were happy with the price when you booked the cruise, no reason to be "frustrated".
