Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I'm sailing as a single on the Constellation later in Feb. I have pre-ordered premium WiFI for 1. I have sailed a lot but have never ordered premium wifi as I have always used the excuse of "no access" to avoid working while on a cruise (it worked for 20 years). As now I'm semi-retired and no one will actively being trying to track me down and I will need to check in with my significant other, question is if it truly one device or one device at a time. Reason for asking is that I use both an iphone and an ipad. Is premium really linked to one device or as long as I don't do it simultaneously can I use the same subscription on both devices? Thanks
  2. Traveling on the Constellation in Feb as a single. Considering the Ultimate Dining package as an option. Concerned about getting a consistent tabel time particularly as a single. Does the Tuscan Grill on the Connie have a bar that you can eat at? Thanks, Don
  3. My wife and I have done the class multiple times on various ships. Generally fun and a fairly reasonable value even if you have Cheers. My experience is that they are typically held the last sea day. I'm generally a "known" patron at the Alchemy by the end of day 1. Sometimes the bartender will ask us if we are interested. Sometimes, we have asked to be signed up. At times, it solely depends on how many people of have signed up. A full class is typically 8 - 12 people. I have seen them add extra classes when demand was high. Recommend you ask on day 1 and start the "list".
  4. We were on a back to back on Carnival in January. We also were on the Connie in late February. In all three cases we had fog. We live in Tampa and in that timeframe it is not unusual. We have gotten where we check the dock cam to make sure the boat is docked before heading downtown. However, for us, both Carnival and Celebrity have learned their lesson. All three returns were moved forward in anticipation of the fog coming in rather than being held at the bridge as if we had delayed entry. We actually entered US Waters on all three occasions about 10 pm. and were under the Bridge about midnight. Some gamblers were unhappy because the tables/slots shut down with the entry into US borders. Bars remained open/shows continue but tax was due on drinks. Everything else relative to disembarking and embarking, went as scheduled. Much improved. In the past, I remember one cruise where we were about 2 pm being docked. Fog typically is gone in the 9 to 11 AM time period but you are almost 2 hours from the bridge to being docked.
  5. Thanks for the link to the fine print. As with most things, it can change from week to week, I will wait to upgrade until onboard and see. If they require both, I'm probably better off paying the per drink charge. However, if that is the biggest issue of the vacation, then it be a pretty dang good one!. Thanks!
  6. Did you do it onboard or pre-cruise? Thanks!
  7. I know that the answer is somewhere on this Board, but I've searched and I can't find the answer. I know the Classic Drink Package has been de-valued and don't want to start another thread on it. However, I'm on an upcoming Connie sailing and have the Classic Package. I'm pretty sure that I've seen now that Celebrity has followed Carnival in now requiring every adult in a cabin to buy a package if one does. Don't want to start an argument on that as "it is what it is". What I am wondering if if both adults have to upgrade to Premium if one does? My wife will not have more than 2 drinks a day and that is likely to be just a vodka tonic. Me, I like some of the higher priced gins and will have a few. I can pay a per charge upcharge if I have to. But would like to upgrade myself and only myself if possible with on-board credits. Anyone have recent experience or a link to the fine print that I can't seem to find? Thanks!
  8. As Tampa residents, we have done Paradise on multiple occasions. Just did a back to back (10 days total) in early August. Have another Paradise back to back scheduled for New Year's. Older boat but we enjoy. Serenity is small but because you have to go through a "club" to get to it, it may not be as packed as some, particularly after lunch. My wife play slots and because of the ship size/people ratio, she is ok relative to the Casino. As the club mentioned above relative to Serenity is the club for the Comedy Show it is significantly bigger than some of the newer ships. As long as you are not last minute, you don't have to wait in line to get a seat for a show for the Comedy Club. How good it is depends on the Comedians. The first week of the August cruise was fantastic. Second, so, so. Not as much music around as the bigger ships, but you can find a couple of place going each night. I"m an old guy but the disco was packed a couple of nights and fun to watch people having a LOT OF FUN. You should enjoy it.
  9. I stand corrected. We sailed on Celebrity Constellation from Tampa in Feb of this year. (Had a great time!) I forgot. Holland does also sail from Tampa but as it is Carnival owned, not direct competition.
  10. I live in Tampa and think that Carnival will find a way to keep the Legend/Pride and Paradise operating. I can't remember the source, but I saw about six months ago that on a per passenger basis the Paradise is one of the highest revenue grossing ships (per passenger) in the fleet. It surprised me at the time but the 4/5 day schedule seems to have has a high alcohol revenue add to the fare. Also, Norwegian and RCL sail out of Tampa with their smaller ships in the winter, so I don't think they would want to vacate the market to them.
  11. If a particular brand/spirit is in a signature cocktail of a particular bar, they may carry it when another bar doesn't. Specifically, I know from experience, that something like Plymouth Gin is required in a MG Brass Magnolia Menu Drink, and thus they may hold it back and have it while other bars don't. Same for Alchemy and Fortune Teller. The latter may have a different brand of something else like Buffalo Trace Whiskey when Brass Magnolia doesn't. As I typically get somewhat known by bar staff, I have had Bartenders who would go find what I wanted. Not always, but ... As to Hendricks, it and Sapphire are typically available at all bars unless you get to the end of the week with a ship of heavy Gin drinkers (not a frequent occurrence as Vodka now seems preferred for Martinis). Heck, on a couple of cruises, I've been know to drink them out of Limes, let alone Plymouth or a couple of other Gin brands! Although never Hendricks., as cucumber flavor is not a favorite of mine. Isn't it a hard life when this becomes a topic of the day!
  12. Have been on MG three times. 1st and 2nd was a back to back last August. 1st spent almost all of our time the Alchemy. Had 2s Nicola's and they were amazing and people at bar were good. 2nd week, Alchemy was extremely loud and crowded and the people at the bar did not build up the comradire. Due to that, sort of split time with Alchemy and BM. Atilla at BM was just a great bartender. 3rd trip, spent almost all of our time in BM. One of the Nicola's had move there and with him, Atila and Victoria, it was one of the best teams we have ever seen. Much calmer than Alchemy as well. Live music also a plus. Visited the FT as well on all three cruises, crowed but just not my vibe. I do urge you to check out the outside bar up at Guy's smokehouse. It is not nearly as busy as some of the Lido deck bars. It is to the left (facing toward the aft) and through the Veterans Area.
  13. On our 25th the card was white like Diamond but had different logos and special emblems. We had several servers do a double take as they had not seen one like ours before. That was probably about 5 years ago so, as with everything, I imagine it may have change.
