  1. I too had trouble entering my gift cards towards my final payment. It took all the info but then wouldn’t finish the transaction. I saw the place to enter the credit card info under the gift cards so I tried to place a charge of $100 to my Discover card along with the gift card payment. When I hit enter it said transaction complete. I thought all was good until I made the final payment and asked my PCC to send me a new invoice showing paid in full. I checked and the day I made payment with both gift card and credit card it showed the total being charged to my Discover card. When I checked my gift card balances still showed the $500 on each of them. After talking to my PCC again he gave me the reservation accounting department. Their phone number is 888-663-5384. I called and she informed me that if you enter gift cards and then try to also pay some with credit card - the credit card automatically takes the full charge and the gift cards are not charged at all. I questioned why they even give that option to combine different options of payment if it didn’t work like it should and she didn’t know. She also could not tell me why it wouldn’t accept just the gift card payment. She was great to work with and took the gift card numbers and she put the credit back on my Discover card. Hope this helps.
  2. Watching the Konsingdam leaving San Diego pier right now on the San Diego Web Cam. What a gorgeous ship. Safe travel to Debbie and Sue and all the others from the daily.
  3. I hope you all have a great time - lots of blue skies and calm seas. Debbie and Sue - wish we were joining you on this fantastic cruise. Seems like you have a great group to hang out with. I’ll have to follow your adventures on the daily. Have lots of fun and please give Sue my congratulations on her new grand baby. Maryell
  4. Bruno - thanks for taking the time to update all your cruise critic friends on the status of your dad. I know this is a hard time for you as you had hoped one day to be able to cruise with him again. Please take care of yourself and know that you are always in my thoughts and prayers. Maryell
  5. I guess for us it is more than one thing that made us decide to book with Holland. The knowledge that if anything happens on the way to Vancouver the ship will wait or Holland will make arrangements for us to catch up with the ship. Plus we like the convenience of not having the extra stops and time spent on the bus. We have booked shuttles in the past with Holland without issues for the difference in the price wasn't an issue with us.
  6. That sounds great for younger people in great health - but not an option for us as we are 2 senior citizens with back and knee issues. For us it’s worth the extra cost to hand our bags over to the cruise line shuttle and not have to struggle with it. Maybe this option will work for the original person that posted. Thanks so much.
  7. We are on a 14 day Holland America round trip Alaska out of Vancouver May 5, 2024 and found much better flights out of Seattle. Holland offers a shuttle before and after the cruise to Seattle Airport. The cost is $84 each way. It is more money than the Quick Shuttle but it doesn’t have the extra stops that the Quick Shuttle shows on its schedule. Maybe Princess offers a similar shuttle next year.
  8. Bruno - So glad to see your updated posting. Since meeting you on the 2021 Alaska cruise I always watch for you to post to see how you and Dad are doing. Was sorry to hear about your stroke but good to hear that you made it thru without new deficits. I’m sure the new location has made life easier for you to manage with your Dad. Dad is blessed to share his living space with you as you are such a caring person. I hope someday that we will be able to cruise together again. I wish you two a wonderful holiday - and please when you have time - keep us updated. Take care Maryell
  9. Thanks Roy. I have followed along on the daily for quite awhile - seldom do I post. But I was lucky enough to finally meet Debbie and Sue and hang out with them on our 25 day Iceland cruise on the Zaandam this August. Also met Sandy and her Husband. It was fun to put faces to these people I’ve been following. Cruise critic is a great place to get useful information for upcoming cruises. The Daily has some delightful and caring people posting and I enjoy following along. Maryell
  10. Debbie - congrats on the upsell on your Hawaii cruise. Hope you and Sue have a great time. Maryell
  11. I have the same experience with my PCC who is in Seattle and hope I never lose him. He always has time to answer my questions and I never feel rushed when on the phone with him. I can either call or email him and have always gotten a response quickly. I wish every one had the same experience with the PCC as we do.
  12. Thanks so much - makes me feel a lot more confident in our choice of flights to return home.
  13. Thanks for your response. Hoping as the month goes on others coming off the cruise ship and heading to the airport will also give us some input also.
  14. I’m hoping that’s true - but because they are closing the one big tunnel this week for the rest of the summer - people have expressed concerns in traffic holdups. Even Holland sent out an email last week warning of possible delays. I really don’t want to reschedule flight home to later flight. Thanks for your response.
  15. Sorry I wasn’t clear. We are flying in a day early as we always do. They question I posted was for after cruise going from port to airport. Thanks.
  16. We are on a Holland America cruise to Iceland and returning to Boston on August 23rd which is a Wednesday We have booked the transfer from port to airport thru Holland. Our flight is at 12:45 on Southwest. I’m hoping that people that cruise before us will post on here how bad the delays getting to airport are and if I should be concerned with the flight I have booked. I appreciate any updated info that anyone can share. Please do not suggest we take a taxi or Uber as we are in our senior years and don’t feel comfortable doing either of those options. Thanks Maryell
  17. I was also on this Panama Cruise and felt bad for the 41 people that we had to leave behind to be able to meet our time slot at the Panama Canal. I would like to correct you however when you said Holland cancelled every other excursions on that day. We did a Holland shore excursion to the Countryside and Coffee Plantation quite a distance from the ship. When we left the pier it was a bright and sunny day. We did encounter severe rain storm on returning to the ship. In Hollands defense there were a lot of tours that went out that day. Not just the zip line one. I agree that they should have done much more in compensating those people on that tour but also felt like people on Cruise Critic should also know it wasn’t the only tour that went out.
  18. Thanks for the update on your Disney Dream cruise. Our family is heading to Miami this weekend to go on the 5 day Marvel Cruise on the Disney Dream. This group includes my grandkids who are 9 and 11. This is a cruise we had to cancel 3 years ago when the oldest got sick the day we were supposed to leave. Hearing that the food is great is awesome. Hope you heal fast from your fall in the airport. Maryell
  19. Hi Bruno I can’t offer any advice on comparing cruise lines as I’ve never cruised on Princess or Royal Caribbean. Plus I’ve never stayed in anything larger than a regular balcony room. I just wanted to say I’m happy to see your post that you are able to check into cruising again with your dad. This is great news. I’m sure you’ll have a great time in whatever you pick. Stay healthy and have a great 2023! Maryell
  20. You might want to check Days Inn Trip Advisor reviews are really bad. I was checking to see if that would be an option for us in February and decided it is not.
  21. Bruno - It’s always good to hear from you and see how you are doing. I know you deal with it one day at a time. You are a great guy - and a good care giver. Hoping some day to catch up with you again on a ship. Best wishes for you to have nice holidays. Take care of yourself. Maryell
  22. Hey Nancy Seems like you had some added excitement on your cruise. Kudos for all that were involved in saving those lives. Seems like you have been on the seas forever. Hope you are enjoying your Caribbean cruise before you return home. We had some nice times while on the Panama Cruise but it was hard coming home afterwards to real life of fixing my own food and making my bed 🙂. Enjoy the rest of the cruise. I hope some days our paths cross again. Safe travels. Maryell.
  23. We booked thru Holland America for our 17 day Panama Cruise from San Diego to Ft. Lauderdale. They use the Sheraton Marina - 1380 Harbor Drive. When we first signed up we were told Hollands block of rooms was full and we were waitlisted. About a month or so later we were notified that rooms became available - it was $340 for 2 people thru Holland and that included transfer from the airport to the hotel (which is already free if you book yourself) and then also the transfer from hotel to ship in the morning. There was a convention going on and the hotel was very crowded - we checked in around 7 pm and there were probably 30 people in line behind us when we were thru. Although we were able to walk around the marina area and check out yachts and such we were not happy with the room we got. I had checked out reviews before we left and the Lanai Towers were reported to have musty smell. We were in a first floor room and as soon as you opened the door - you could smell it. Luckily we travel with a can of aerosol room spray and after spraying the room and bathroom - it was fine. If they put you in the Bay Tower I heard that is fine. In the morning we took a walk around the grounds and along the bay and could see the ships that were in port. Transfers all went smoothly. Hope this helps in your quest for finding a room. In the future I think we would probably book our own and pay for the transfers at another hotel.
  24. I can't say anything but good things about our room stewards on the Nieuw Amsterdam for 17 days. They came and introduced themselves when we received our luggage and asked for our requests while being on ship. We asked for morning service and not evening - ice twice a day - towel animals - and chocolates. We received excellent service along with our requests all 17 days. From the second day on they were calling us by our names each time we saw them. They would go out of their way to acknowledge us in the hallway and asked if we needed anything else. We remember the food being more variety in past Holland cruises.
