Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I hope everyone has an amazing trip to the GP. We went on another ship while SeaDream was on GP hiatus. For those not booked through cruise ship, be sure to leave early to get to your viewing location as it requires tender which may or may not be near your viewing location. We also experienced significant delay in tender drop off due to the large number of boats trying to drop off at the same location. Think Disney World at Christmas crowds.
  2. Thanks all for the input here is the specific trip details: Embark St. Maarten Day 2 Long Bay, Beef Island (Thinking about catching the ferry to Virgin Gorda) Day 3 Sandy Ground, Anguilla Day 3 Night St. Barth's Day 4 St. Barth's (Have rental car reserved) Day 5 Charlestown, Nevis Day 6 Soper's Hole, Tortola (private charter snorkel tentatively booked) then Norman's Day 7 Prickly Pear (likely Beach Party) I have started a countdown calendar and can't wait!
  3. Hello fellow Seadreamers, Looking for new tips... This March we will be embarking on our 4th journey and finally convinced another couple to join. My friend has never been out of the US and they are used to "go go go". I am concerned that the stops in the BVI's (despite the active water opportunities) won't be enough - any thoughts on additional resources for fishing in BVI's. As I recall some took the Bike route to the beach on Anguilla. We are planning on a charter for snorkel/fish on Tortola/Beef Island wondering if others have additional suggestions ( some of the islands don't reveal much as they do not have independent tour operators). Also, if we wanted to reach out with any requests in advance (knowing they may not be accommodated) do we just email the general email, ask our travel agent etc. It's taken us a while to get into the Sea Dream way (ie requests) but want our friends to experience the wonders that we have 🙂 Thanks for any suggestions in advance.
  4. I disagree with the "from scratch" part. If you mean baked daily from frozen dough/shell, or cake mix fine. Every cruise line does this even the higher-end ones. Staff have been generally friendly, hardworking. Only once did I hear staff complaining about people who lingered too long in the dining room. Of note all staff a couple of days ago started masking up. Upon start of cruise it was hit or miss. I had heard that having a balcony was imperative on an Alaska cruise. I'm going to guess the caveat is when the season is in full swing. IMO based on the cost of excursions in Alaska, you could save by getting an ocean view and spend the rest on excursions. If you are a person who is always cold invest in long underwear. DM did not heed my warning and has not been able to tolerate the outdoors even with two layers of pants and three jackets. Had great food off the boat in Sitka "Red herring " and "Oso Gordito" in Hoonah both food trucks.. Did the UTV tour in Skagway that was good. Have to factor in about 3 hours of travel to and from Haines. The views of Alaska make this a must do experience. At the end of the day I would love to come back, just on a different cruise line (we prefer smaller ships up to 800 pax)
  5. So the good... the scenery is beautiful. Much more serene than I even anticipated. The staff for the most part is very kind and seriously overworked. This essentially means that service is impaired- before I get bombarded with all kinds of criticism- I realize this is a system issue major cruise line wide. Our room was not clean when we were able to enter. Hair in drawers, screws loose in bathroom panels and on drawers. Worst for us was when we went to get into bed and our sheets and comforter smelled- you don't want to know what. Had the whole bed pillows etc changed out. We have encountered significant lines for both dinner and now a 45 minute line to disembark which was difficult for the disabled worried about their excursions. Food is mostly from frozen including pastries. Again, not unique to NCL. My parents who are not hard to please left the first night of show. So far is the cruise worth it. Yes, will we ever take NCL again nope. We will certainly have a good time, but unfortunately cruising has become less pleasurable. I am 1000 certain there is someone on this same ship who is having the best time of their life.
  6. Hello All, Arrived on the Sun. Staffing seems low as others have reporters biggest current issue is many guests are unable to open the doors to their cabins. All having to then stand in line to have cards re-keyed. this is not an optimal start. Fingers crossed the toilets work. The interiors of cabins are showing significant wear I supposed that's to be expected for a ship this age. Looking forward to Alaska and hoping all safe travels for here in.
  7. So decide to go this direction. Given that there is a coupon for first 2 months, this made the most sense. As someone who unfortunately changes sizes more frequently than cruises, this offered the most flexibility. I, personally, cannot make my partner dress up and not feel equally "uncomfortable" (haha). As someone who is not quite satisfied in my current "skin", the rental offers the opportunity to be ok with where I am, rather than thinking about that dress 5 years ago, pre pandemic working in the ICU weight. (of course no excuse to neglect one's own health needs).(please forgive the run-on). If my prior comments have been triggering for anyone, I apologize. I am an over-thinker and over-processor by both nature and profession.
  8. Strange question.... Anyone ever use a clothing rental service? I was thinking of using rental service for formal clothing?(Hate to think what would happen if luggage was lost- but I guess that is what travel insurance is for?)I don't have formal/cocktail attire - thinking this may be an alternate to purchasing a dress I will never wear again? It seems that it used to be men could rent a tux for the trip?
