  1. Then why are these issues brought up over and over in the solo threads of Cruise Critic?

I'm guessing you haven't bothered to look there yet. And yes, sexism exists on cruises and in every day life, and some women deal with it and others are still learning how. That is the purpose of the threads: to spread knowledge, not to deny reality.

If you feel the purpose of the boards are to spread knowledge why are you so defensive about a reply to your comment? Not helping OP one bit. You indicated that you are male so I am not sure what makes you feel that you are an expert on something you cannot possible relate to.

  2. I have been on 4 cruises so far. My 5th one is in November. But yesterday, I booked my 6th cruise and have decided to go alone. Any tips on cruising alone? It's only a 4 day. So it isn't long at all but just curious if anyone thinks I will regret my decision? I'm looking fwd to it regardless. :)

Windy, you will have a great time. It is very relaxing and not have to worry about what everyone else wants to do is great. Total "me" time. I love cruising with friends but for total relaxation I always go solo.

    Enjoy!

  3. Karti, NO, I am not joking, just reporting what I've read in the solo threads and what I've been told sitting at over 20 solo MDR tables, sometimes as the only male.

Are you joking about me joking?

Please read the threads in the solo section that women start or reply to and compare them to us poor simpleton men cruisers. We try to understand their issues as they explain them - some of these issues just never occur to a guy solo cruiser.

I have been on at least 20 cruises alone and have never had any problems whatsover. I find your comment to be a bit dramatic. The issues you brought up happen every day, not just on a cruise ship and women handle them . So, no, I am not joking about your joking.

  4. There is a whole section on solo sailing in the special interests thread of CC. Note that solo sailing is different that singles sailing.

Also note that solo sailing for women has many different issues (safety, dining, what others think, being ignored, being hit on, etc. etc.) that don't concern most male solo cruisers.

    You are joking right?

  5. You request a LARGE table at dinner....and be friendly at any event, pool, etc...that you attend! Other than that, I don't know! There are LOTS of friendly folks...just be open to anything! Go to your Roll Call...and make friends before you sail....onboard, just be willing to talk to anyone.

Personally, I think you're brave. I have no desire to sail (or vacation) alone. Have you no friends that could accompany you? I'd be asking my buddies!!! I'm in my 60's and wouldn't want to do an "alone" thing.

Wow! Am I the only one who finds this incredibly insensitive?

  6. I would probably wait until after the pedicure. About 4 days after I did the treatment skin was peeling off like crazy. The instructions say not to pick or peel the skin so I think a pedi would make that impossible. The treatment didn't affect my polish so no worries there. The peeling skin was just funky, no irritation or tenderness to the feet. Can't believe how soft the skin is now.

  7. I was watching pricing and finally booked on the Conquest last week, I have been super busy at work and other personal things, so yesterday was the first time I had to sit down and get on Carnival.com to put in my credit card etc. I wanted to book FTTF. It was sold out.....we are still over 100 days from sailing. Does anyone know if they open more slots or if anyone ever cancels?

Keep checking daily. I have had the most luck finding it open first thing in the morning.

I am on the same sailing! 112 days -- seems like forever!

  8. My feet are the smoothest and softest that I can ever remember. They weren't really bad to begin with so my feet didn't look as gross as some of the pictures. It's funny but, you're sure nothing is happening. I would say it took about three days for the peeling to start and it started right after showering. The majority of the peeling happened the first week then it leveled off. Seemed to have stopped but then it picked up again on the tops of my feet but nothing like the bottom.

I'm just wondering when it should be done again.

I had the exact same time frame and results. This stuff is amazing! Found it at TJ Maxx but also saw it on Amazon. Thanks so much for the heads up on this!

  9. I have it filled and setting until my next trip ( Dec 29th) for just that reason. I spoon out the oil into my Kitchen-aide mixer and whip it for a few minutes with the flat beater and then spoon into the container. Since I have been doing this, I my oil neither melts at warm room temps nor does it harden. It used to melt when my house was warm and harden when my house was cooler.

Thanks so much. I now have whipped coconut oil! My first attempt was like something out of an I Love Lucy episode but I finally got it right.

  10. they don't let you take hair driers on board, or irons, confiscated at boarding! supplied ones are quite reasonable.

This is not accurate. Have always taken a dryer, curling/flat iron. Never a problem. On board dryers are very basic. It would take two hours to dry my hair with one of those things and forget trying to straighten.

Thanks! Will try this for sure.
