  1. Such good news about Baby Murphy. We all love and pray for the β€œDaily Babies”. @Cruzin Terri, I am so happy your DH will seek some medical look at his knee. He needs to be in good shape for your upcoming cruise. Sending prayers for a good result. Good night!
  2. Good morning. It is a chilly morning in Western Colorado. At least we don’t have snow, like the mountains and Front Range. I am sitting at the car dealers service department’s lounge. Getting new tires before winter. I had known my tires were needing to be replaced, so finally decided to do it. I always loving spending over $1,000!! That kind of spending (and more) should be reserved for cruising. I love reading about those are cruising, and seeing the wonderful pictures that so many share. Have been to Juneau on 4 of my 5 Alaska cruises. That is also a stop on the 28-day Alaska cruise for next summer. I just cancelled 2 cruises so am really looking forward to seeing many ports in Alaska that are visited very seldom. (Dutch Harbor, Barrow, Nome to name a few, plus Hubbard Glacier and College Fjord which I have not seen,) Prayers sent for all that are in pain or needing special thoughts. If I get out of here in time will go to church for Mass for All Saints Day. Have a great day everyone. Mary Kay
  3. Just a quick post. When I had COVID when I returned from my cruise, I could not get Paxlovid. Doctor said I would have to discontinue some of my HBP and heart meds. I just decided to just stick it out which in my case worked out okay. I had been lead to believe that seniors with underlying conditions could get Paxlovid fairly easily. My bad.
  4. @Quartzsite Cruiserdinner tomorrow sounds wonderful. What time should I arrive, if I can escape COVID jail?
  5. Greetings to all! My posting is still sporadic, but I do read every day! My thoughts and prayers to all on the Cares List, especially to those who are the caregivers for spouses. Take care of yourself, so that you can be there for your loved one. That is the one most important lesson that I had to learn the very hard way!!! I have the laugh of the day for you. I am back in complete quarantine in my apartment for 5 days, which started yesterday! I had done my 5 days of complete quarantine and 5 days of masking while I had COVID. My one day of freedom was Sunday. Then, I was among a group of 4 that was exposed over the weekend and the seniors' community put all 4 of us into quarantine yesterday! (As my step-daughter told me it is the downside of living where I do!). So, I am now staring at the 4 walls again. Wish I could read more, but that has been something that I no longer have a desire to do. I can only read for about 5 minutes before I lose interest. Reading enjoyment left me after DH passed away, and I can't re-capture it. Looks like it is a nice day out, which would be nice to be able to get out. By the time I am out of Covid jail, the weather will probably take a turn for the worse. At least I am able to do the Zoom or Teams calls for Red Cross, so some of the time is not wasted. Yesterday I went through all of my Christmas stuff and decided what I will have room to display, and what needs to be donated. That was something that didn't get done before I moved. @smitty34877I understand the pneumonia crisis that Tana is undergoing. It becomes increasing challenging for the treatment under her circumstances. Sending healing thoughts for a speedy recovery. For those celebrating (and the lucky travelers/cruisers) I send my best wishes! I love this whole "community" that makes the FR&D such a great portion of the days. Have a great rest of the day, everyone. Mary Kay
  6. @dfish, such gorgeous scenery. Much more color than was experienced on our Zuiderdam cruise in Canada and New England. Thanks for sharing.
  7. Well, I am finally getting around to a sensible post. I have learned that recovery from this bout of Covid isn't as easy as the prior one!! I have been battling tremendous fatigue, which I guess can be a side effect. (Please don't add me to Cares list again as this is just something that will pass). Didn't help that I spent a very restless night last night. It is just beautiful here right now. Clear skies, and just a hint of fall in the air, although it is supposed to get to 80 today! Not sure how supposed 2023/2024 EL Nino will affect Western Colorado and the water situation. @RMLincoln, I am "mentally" going thru your pre-move exercises with you. I am truly sympathetic to your enhanced move date. What you can get done is great, but don't stress too much. The movers will do what you can't!!!! When your move is complete, I am sure you will be happy with the result. I got a card yesterday that stated that those who have Tricare for Life now are eligible for the Federal Dental and Vision coverage. When I started to investigate, it turned into a website that locked me out. Guess I will just keep my AT&T Dental coverage (which I pay for) and ignore whatever is being offered new! Investigating all the possibilities drives me crazy, as if I needed help. My continued prayers for all on the Cares List. Wish it would decrease. Also doing a happy dance for those who are celebrating and all the lucky cruisers. Have a great evening! Mary Kay
  8. Just last week I had a lot of non-refundable OBC. On the last evening of the cruise I went to Guest Services and signed a paper to transfer that $$$ to the Crew Appreciation fund. Easy peasy. I had a little refundable credit which they gave me in cash.
  9. I tested negative today, so can get out of COVID jail tomorrow. Well, I am on mask restriction, but will take it! Prayers for all in need. Will try to do a halfway intelligent post tomorrow. Have a good night. Mary Kay
  10. Thanks for well wishes. Starting to feel a little bit better. Haven’t started to re-test. Feel it is a waste of time (and tests) since I am quarantined in my apartment till Monday. I am agreeing that it was a good move for me as I don’t have to worry about any food prep, etc. This discussion about RSV is very interesting to me. Last February when I was in ER with horrible cough, lung issues, I was tested for COVID, Influenza A and B, RSV, and Pneumonia x-rays. I was reassured that the docs wanted to rule out everything since I was and am a senior. I know that right now I will not be eligible for a C-19 booster, but I intend to get the RSV shot when I am recovered. No rest for me this afternoon. There is a local air show with the highlight being the Blue Angels. My apartment complex is in the flight path. The Blue Angels have been practicing for the last two days! I love the β€œsounds of freedom” have a great rest of the days. My thoughts and prayers for all. I am still trying to get caught on FR&D reading. Mary Kay
  11. Very late posting for me. Arrived home very LATE Tuesday from Zuiderdam cruise. Three flights and I felt like HEβ€”!!! Turns out I have COVID. So, it has not been a great week. I am now in quarantine in my seniors’ community. I am seriously re-thinking my future as a cruiser. I have said I would continue for as long as I was able, but after this trip, I am not sure how many airline debacles I can handle. Also, this last cruise was totally lackluster. sorry to be such a downer. Will try to catch up on my missed days while cruising. My wi-fi didn’t work so well on Z.
  12. Well, my bags are packed, I am ready to go, and I am leaving' on a jet plane!!πŸ˜€ (Maybe I will burst out in song! - but not the way I sing!). Amazing that I could upload my passport for ArriveCan, but not for United Airlines for boarding pass! Oh well, since I am flying first class because of the long overnight flight, then United can deal with everything at the airport! Thoughts and prayers for @Quartzsite Cruiserfor the best surgery outcome and recovery. Be careful on your drive home. Also sending more healing wishes for @smitty34877for peace in this new chapter, and hopes that Tana remains stable with her IPF. Don't know how much I will be able to post after boarding the Zuiderdam, but know I will be trying to keep current by reading the FR&D. I had problems with the Navigator app in April aboard the Rotterdam! Keep well, everyone and have a blessed few days! Mary Kay
  13. Good afternoon fellow Dailyites! I know I have been MIA during the past week. My DSis and Dniece were visiting from AZ over the weekend. Then on Sunday a good friend here in GJ lost her SO in a tragic accidental gunshot incident. Since my family left, I have been trying to support my friend. Visit, meals, texts and calls. My prayers have been for all on the Cares list and most especially @smitty34877 in the loss of her beloved. I have felt your pain personally, but each person and their family has their own unique journey through the experience. My only prayer now for you is peace. Wow, @RMLincoln you certainly were fortunate in getting an apartmennt to your liking so soon! I can relate to the "urgency" that such a move entails. I am sure you will manage the whole thing most efficiently! Soon you will be enjoying your new life close to family. Today, I started to "try" to figure out what to take for my upcoming Zuiderdam cruise. Two problems are facing me - 1 - I want to take only carry-on which will limit amount of clothing, and 2 - Since I am in a one-bedroom apartment, I no longer have a spare room to put clothing, etc. before packing! Oh well, it will all work, but it will be a challenge before I leave on Thursday evening before the overnight flight to Quebec City. Hope the rest of the day is good for everyone. Time for dinner here in our building!! Mary Kay
  14. Good afternoon! It seems that I manage to get around to reading the FR&D, but somehow I can't manage to get to posting. (I read on I-pad, but like to post from laptop!) This living in a seniors community is different - meals at a set time, cleaning at a set time, and then various activities for each day. Keeps me busy, but I am loving the sociability, which was sorely lacking when I was living alone. Sorry that I have missed sending best wishes for so many celebrating anniversaries and birthdays. All have been in my thoughts. Each day I include the Cares List in my prayers. I wish the Celebrations list were longer and the Cares list was shorter. But I know that is the same thought of so many faithful posters! I so wanted to get to posting yesterday, but somehow the day flew by - thankfully. My DH & I worked with another man and set up a Red Cross shelter in Denver on 09/11. This shelter operated for a week for airline passengers who had no place to go when their planes were directed to the nearest airport. Then we spent 5 weeks right at Ground Zero working in a Red Cross Respite Center for police, firefighters, and construction workers clearing the site. My DH died of 09/11 related cause. He was one of many who were not responders, but are still considered as later casualties of that fateful day. I only wish that schools were teaching more to the younger generation so that they knew the sacrifices that were made on that day, and earlier days that have so shaped our history! It is another blue sky, fluffy white cloud day in Western Colorado. And "RAIN", what is that?? I was very dismayed when I saw the "S" word on Trail Ridge. Think that Pikes Peak got it also! My sister and niece are coming for a few days over the weekend. I am anxious to see them, but when they leave, I have to get organized for my cruise on the Zuiderdam. Have to leave on the 28th to fly to Quebec City, but my place is so small that I can't put things out till they leave. Have a great rest of the day, everyone! Mary Kay
  15. Good morning! Imagine that - it is still morning and I am posting. Didn't sleep too well, as I kept watching the Weather Channel about Idalia! I used to live in Crystal River, and we always took visitors to Cedar Key for a wonderful meal. So two Florida towns very close to my heart. So glad that FL Dailyites are reporting in and so far all are safe and well. It is a beautiful, sunny day here in Western Colorado. Think it will only get to upper 90's today. Next week we will be in the 80's and there is even some rain forecast. It always boggles my mind how the weather can be so different in this country (and Canada and Australia), but then I realize how really large these countries are! Hurricane in one area, and drought/fires in other areas. Yesterday I tried going for breakfast at my new place. Bad idea, as then I wasn't able to eat much of the noon meal, which is the big meal of the day. Still figuring out what works best. Today, only the noon meal here, and then my DstepD and her husband are taking me out for dinner. I am so thankful that my DH's children are so good to me. Just got a text to remind me that I have a mammogram tomorrow. Guess that while I am out I will go to Walgreen's to get my flu shot. I want it to take effect before I leave for my late September cruise. I don't think that the new COVID shot will be out much before I leave, so will leave that for later. Hope that all have a great day. Prayers for all on the Cares List and I'll raise a glass (wine) to those celebrating! Mary Kay
  16. Late post from me today. Went to Mass this morning, then cemetery, and to a local farm stand! Even though I have meals provided where I live, I just love eating local produce. Had an ear of corn and some tomato for my lunch! Evening meal will be leftover from eating out last night! Wish I could have shared my unplanned afternoon nap of over 2 hours with those who didn't sleep well last night! But then, I will probably be the one tomorrow who says they didn't sleep well tonight! When I got up this morning, it was raining. In the last 1+ week we have had some mild rainstorms, and are now ahead again on the average annual amount of precipation. Every little bit helps. Funny that we like our small amounts of rain when the Eastern U.S. gets tropical moisture at the same time. Here's hoping that Franklin and Idalia are non-threatening to the Daily family! Thanks to all who make this such a special place. It seems that kind words are just such a special part of everyone's posts on the FR&D! Hope that everyone has a good rest of the day (and that everyone sleeps well tonight)! Mary Kay
  17. Personally I have not ever understood. But, I must β€œgo with the flow” and if they ask, I tell them. Who knows why it is asked???
  18. Good afternoon! I have been reading each day's Daily, but just don't get to posting very often. Believe me I am following all posts, especially noting those about health problems. I wish improved health and happiness to all. It has been a little over 3 weeks since I moved to the seniors' apartment. I seem to be in and out every day with one project or another. When I am here, I really enjoy that I don't have to plan, cook or clean-up for meals. Having my apartment cleaned and bed linens changed weekly is also a treat! @RMLincolnI applaud you for your decision. Glad that you have a plan for the next chapter. We have gotten about 3/4" of rain in the last week. Unfortunately it has come with some violent electric storms, which has ignited several fires. The fires have been controlled so far, which is a blessing. I was at a meeting this morning, where the emergency manager stated that some heavy rain is expected for the next 2-3 days which could cause some flash flooding in some of our large burn scars from 3 years ago. Of course, our problems are small in comparison to Hawaii, California, and Texas. @smitty34877and @marshhawkyour husbands are in my prayers. Treatments and surgeries are so hard on the patients (and caregivers!). After following the wonderful cruises that @dfishand @StLouisCruisershave just completed, it is a wake-up call for me to start thinking about organizing for my end of September cruise on the Zuiderdam. Our little "gang of 4" from the TA on the Rotterdam in April will all be together for one evening in Quebec City and then 3 of us are cruising together! Looking forward to that. Since I am now living in a much smaller place, I won't be able to start putting things out in advance in a spare bedroom - since I am now in 600 square feet. My sister and niece will be visiting in mid-September, so cruise prep will have to be on a delayed schedule! Just thought of a strange song - "May the Bird of Paradise fly up your nose". Hope the rest of the day is wonderful for all. Many thanks to @richwmnfor starting each day for all of us, and thanks to all the faithful contributors who enrich each D&FR! Mary Kay
  19. #20 and #42 both still go to PH, or at least did so in January. There have been some route changes, but I am sure that they both still go near Pier 2. Not so much close to Aloha Tower on the way TO Pearl.
  20. @Quartzsite Cruiser, the reason for no dusting is because there are items on my flat surfaces. They don’t want to harm knick knacks, etc. it only took me about 10 minutes to get that little chore done. With my not having to cook, clean-up, change bed, or general cleaning, I think I can spend the few minutes once or twice a week. 😁😁 Mary Kay
  21. So happy to read that you are doing as well as you can under circumstances. Thanks for keeping Aloha alive in beautiful MauiπŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»
  22. Good morning! Very early for me! Interesting days - I "should" have been a left-hander, but my DF made me use my right hand. There are still things I do with my left that seem more natural. He felt that his DM and DSis who were lefties had so much trouble that he wanted to save me from that - i.e., left handed irons and scissors for example! Garage sale day is ironic for me today. The end of my estate sale was yesterday. When the company notified me of the amount of sales (or maybe my portion) I was disappointed. My neighbor indicated to me what she thought had sold. When I went to my old house I was at least happy that everything was gone, and after the final cleaning on Tuesday, I will turn over the keys to the landlord's daughter. As far as having everything gone, it is a "freeing moment" and I have come to terms with the fact that I have let lots of things go. Time for a new chapter of my life! @smitty34877, my prayers for your DH. Oh how I wish I was in NY, not Western Colorado, as I would be happy to be a fill-in at your home for Tana. I hope and pray that all aspects of life improve for you and all of your family! @marshhawkyour day yesterday sounds like the perfect plan for helping your DH. What sights you saw. You can send your rain to Texas or Colorado or both! Our two states plus many more need rain desperately. I think our one afternoon rain was the beginning, middle and end of our monsoon season. Suppose I need to get started on accomplishing a few things. Went to church yesterday. I am expecting a delivery of my new (very small) table and chairs this afternoon. Need to rearrange the dust on things as I have a friend coming from Denver tomorrow. I do have cleaning included here at my new apartment, but they don't dust. My prayers continue for all on the Cares List, and hope those on the "happy" list continue to enjoy great celebrations! Have a great Sunday for all who continue to make this such a special place. Mary Kay
