  1. Hi Lois. I have been on the Discovery and it’s a nice ship, just like all of the Royal-class ships of Princess. Yes, the ships are big, but they’re not behemoths. I generally like Princess but I felt that the food quality has dropped off a bit (it was never fantastic in the first place, but reasonably good). I haven’t been on Cruise Critic for awhile, but I do recall that you were sailing with Silverseas a lot. You may be disappointed with Princess if you compare the two, which maybe might not be good to do! I know you used to be a Celebrity regular, but since I’ve never sailed with them I wouldn’t know how Princess stacks up against them either. But if you’re looking for a cruise that’s not too long, it might be okay to try the Discovery to see if you like Princess.
  2. Thanks for the feedback. It’s good to know that they don’t treat solos like lepers, which was the impression I had come away with.
  3. Hello! From a couple of different sources it was indicated that Oceania isn’t very welcoming to solos in general (one of the examples was not wanting to seat a solo at their own table in a specialty restaurant). Can anyone who has sailed solo with them give feedback either confirming or refuting this? I was looking for a step up from Princess and was considering Oceania, but not if they treat solos as “less than”.
  4. Thanks, but the Nile wasn’t even under consideration. I’m interested in Europe but haven’t yet narrowed down specific regions and/or rivers.
  5. I’m curious as to whether there were major differences between Uniworld’s “River” and “S.S.” boats? I know that the “Rivers” are older. In addition to that, are there noticeable differences in general condition, comfort, facilities, room size and configuration, etc. between the two classes? I’m considering them as a possibility for my first river cruise and would like feedback from anyone who can make a comparison. Thanks in advance!
  6. I’m the person who originated this thread and subsequently was upset while on my cruise on the Discovery in January because there was a screw up with Princess and my reservation was lost. So it turns out that this “squeaky wheel” got the grease (read upthread for an explanation) because Rafael managed to do some schedule juggling and got me a spot on the last night. It was a really unique and memorable experience and I couldn’t imagine anyone but Rafael as the host. That man has more charm in his little finger than most people have in their whole body!
  7. They didn’t have escargot on the second formal night of the Discovery cruise I was just on. I consider that a change!🙁
  8. Rafael has more charm in his little finger than most people have in their whole body!
  9. Funny you should post this now. I’m currently on the Discovery and had a reservation for tonight, or so I thought, because someone pulled some strings to get me an invitation and I got the phone call from someone at Princess to set up the date and time. I got concerned when I didn’t receive a confirmation with details by yesterday, so I called Guest Services and to my dismay they had no record of my reservation! Someone screwed up somewhere and I’m extremely disappointed. I happened to also voice my displeasure with one of the assistant dining room managers tonight at dinner, and he called the 360 manager to see if there were any openings. There weren’t, but I was put on a waiting list in the event there was a cancellation during the remainder of the cruise. I’m not holding my breath.
  10. I know that this "experience" will only be for suite guests when it goes fully into effect, but ccertain passengers are receiving invitations in the meantime. I'm wondering if these passengers are all suite guests, or if they're extremely well-traveled on Princess? Maybe VIPs in the industry? I have no illusion that I would ever get an invitation, but I was just curious and would like to hear from those who have attended as to whether they fall under one of these categories. Thanks!
  11. Only one formal night on a 7-night cruise? That’s surprising. I wonder if that’s a permanent change, or if it’s because the only sea day is on the last night?
  12. @iamaqt2 Which MDR were you in where the dinner service took so long? And did you try any of the other MDRs to see if they were any better?
  13. @spingal I hope you feel better soon! I board the Discovery on the 14th and purposely chose the 7-day itinerary in the hope of lessening my chances of getting it.
  14. True, but navigating it isn’t particularly user friendly.
  15. @roxievegas thank you so much! It looks like there’s too much to do in the evening, but that’s a good “problem” to have instead of the other way around!
  16. If it’s not too much trouble, could someone on this week’s sailing please post photos of the Patters for each day? I’m sailing next week and would love to get some info regarding activity and entertainment scheduling. I would appreciate it immensely!
  17. I’m sailing on the 14th and was wondering: Do boarding passengers get a copy of the first day’s Patter, or must we rely on the poorly laid out Journey View on the app? And by the way, thanks to everyone posting photos and generally keeping us informed!
  18. Thank you. Glad to know that! Was that every day, or only on sea days?
  19. Thanks. Unfortunately I’m not Elite yet, so I can’t take advantage of in-cabin delivery. I’ll definitely get an answer from the Lido manager.
  20. I know that. I’ve sailed with and had afternoon tea on Princess before. My goal is not having to sit through everything else (sandwiches and cakes) and going right to the scones.
  21. I love the scones, but don't really need the rest of the little sandwiches and pastries that come with Afternoon Tea. I was wondering if the scones (along with the jam and clotted cream) were available at that time in the World Fresh Marketplace -- Possibly the Pastry Shop? Has anyone seen this?
  22. Thanks so much for this thread and the accompanying photos. I'll be on the January 14th sailing and while I know that my sailing is only a 7-day itinerary, it helps to get a general idea of activities, food, entertainment, etc. Enjoy!
  23. I'm looking for the whereabouts of a particular server named Patricia, a petite redheaded woman from Poland. I've seen a couple of references to her working on the Discovery and was wondering if she was still on and, if so, in which dining room? She was extremely sweet when she waited on me on the Emerald back in January of 2019 and was hoping to find her on my Discovery cruise next month.
