Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Oops! Your correct. I should have said when the ship broke down or engine failed......
  2. Our family was on the cruise when the ship went down. We were one of the many that chose to leave. A crew can practice for many things, however this situation rarely happens. I will say that the logistics had to be overwhelming. The responsibility Carnival took in getting its passengers by bus and plane back to Dover was impressive. Did it go smoothly. No. Were many involved with delay of planes they were booked on by Carnival? Yes, part of our family included. However Carnival DID take on the huge job and for what it is worth the did a great job. I have not been a Carnival fan, however with Frankie as the Cruise Director and the way Carnival handled this situation I am very much a fan of the Carnival European cruises.
  3. Seabourne Encore is the ship we will sail on. We have gone to Mykonos but none of the other islands. Have also gone to Ephesus in Turkey. However the ship is doing a special excursion for guests after hours. We are excited!
  4. We have two choices. Uniworld Budapest to Passau or a cruise to Greek isles. Not sure which one. Scared Danube will be low on water also. Thoughts?
  5. Today we got a call that our August 21 Uniworld cruise was still on. Then several hours later it has officially been cancelled. No surprise with what all Ive read over the last month tracking the situation. However on the task of finding some replacement.
  6. Not sure what the outcome will be. We do have some travel time before or did plan, in Edinburgh. We have tickets to see the Royal Tatoo and the guys are playing golf at St. Andrews. From there it was a few days in Amsterdam, board the S.S. Antoinette, end up in Basel, some time in Interlocken, then Zurich for a day, and head up to Munich to see the Passion Play. All plans in the middle are up in the air. Other choices were the S.S. Catherine, Burgandy to Provence and S.S. La Venezia, Venice & the Gems of Northern Italy.....Both ships head out in the same time frame as the S.S. Antoinette. Of course, Uniworld won't call the sailing until we are already over there. I'm trying to think of it in the terms of my grandkids surprise blind bags, on a much more expensive level.....
  7. Our Travel agent and friend told us Uniworld S.S. Antoniette has cancelled their August 14th sailing. Ours planned on the 21st is still on, however I do not see much hope (and I am a "glass half full" type of gal) of our trip going from Amsterdam to Basel. Plans are now being made for a backup. One of the choices is the S.S. Maria Theresa heading out of Budapest. However, I am reading that the Danube is also low, and Budapest may not be available as a port. What are your wise thoughts?
  8. Following. I have also noticed the S.S. Antoniette not going down the scheduled itinerary. We leave to do the "Castles on the Rhine" tour starting August 21.
  9. Any news on how the Uniworld River Cruises are doing going up and down the Rhine? Particularly the S.S. Antoinette. I know it is still a bit away, but sail from Amsterdam to Basel August 21st.
  10. This same thing happened to us a couple of years ago on Royal Caribbean going to Australia! A friend called to tell us they understood the cruise was cancelled. A captain had hit a reef so there was propeller damage. We had no word for Royal. When we called, they didn't even know about the cancellation. We were supposed to leave the next evening! Anyone that did not know in advance, were literally stuck in Australia and having to personally pay for lodging and food. We did get a free cruise and money back on the trip, so Royal treated us well and we used the credit to upgrade to a grand suite for a trip to Australia and New Zealand the next year...It's good to have friends 🙂
  11. We lived in Zurich 5 years ago. We would take trips on the weekends. Everyone above is correct, there is a train and buses that can get your to where you need as well as just walking! Lucerne is beautiful and please try to see Mt. Titlis! The gondola ride is amazing!
  12. The water level is my biggest concern. We had this trip planned 2 years ago during Covid but with Crystal River Cruises. We all know what happened there! :/..I really want to be able to go down the river, not be let off at a port, get on a bus and be transported. I guess we are just going to make it a adventure! I hear there is some ship swamping and that sounds interesting.... As far as pre-cruise, yes, we will have some days to wander around a bit. We are going to have some days in Edinburgh so we can see the Royal Tattoo and stay 4 days there. Fly to Amsterdam and stay 3 days pre-cruise. 8 day trip down the Rhine, 3 days in Zurich, train to Oberammergau to see the Passion Play, a day in Munich, then home.
  13. Yes! I will! At this point I am a little worried as the water levels are low....
  14. Yes. I have checked. S.S. Antionette has a self serve laundry center!
  15. Thanks for all the replies! I think I have the wardrobe all planned and it will fit the carryon and personal item bag! Most outfits I just change the top or bottom from the day and add jewelry for the evening. Now just hoping there won't be a dramatic change in weather ( I do have a few sweaters and a blazer to pack so I can layer). Mostly curious for the hubby. He plans on a suitcoat and maybe one tie since they don't take up any room. Getting very excited for this trip!!
