mdchris--you are probably correct, pauley may have known better someone to talk to, to volunteer to stay, or he just got lucky. I definitely understand why you and the others are very upset at being separated and not being able to celebrate the actual day on the 50th anniversary with your family. I know that you understand that there was a lot of coordinating to do, but it certainly didn't work out well for you, or for several of your ship mates.
-
mdchris--I totally get where you are coming from. I am sorry that your 50th anniversary celebration turned out to be much less than what you anticipated. I hope your next cruise is flawless!
-
KandCsailing--what's your take on this whole adventure? I guess you're staying on the ship to sail to San Juan?
-
fourcrusin--thanks for the note, which seems to comport perfectly with what pauley has said. Thanks again pauley for posting facts, without speculation or hyperbole.

As someone else said, the only flights on Flight Aware that look like they would be taking cruise passengers to SJU would be an Eastern (!!) flight at 5:40 PM, which is a 737, and National Cargo at 6:15 PM, which is a 757. There was also a regularly scheduled Jet Blue to SJU at 4:35, but figure that one would have been fairly full already. Otherwise, don't see where there are any other flights scheduled from STT to SJU today, other than Cape Air, which is a dinky plane. Kind of doesn't make sense for them to take anyone to SJU today, unless it is people who live there, or unless they have been able to book them on another flight from there tonight. Why would they do that and have to pay for lodging for them in SJU tonight? Makes no sense to do that, versus leaving them on the ship.

kwhound--It appears from what he has posted that there have been NO flights outbound that people have been notified of yet. So, of course they are not letting anyone off until they determine for sure who is supposed to fly out and when. Duh.
-
paulydm--Thanks so much for keeping everyone informed! You are really going above and beyond!!I hope you are able to stay on the ship until Friday and enjoy your time in STT.

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned here, but Costa Fortuna has been in Tortola since Sunday, due to a mechanical issue. Apparently no idea when they will sail again. Not a great cruise port to get stuck in.

Does anyone have an idea why Russell was inside a passenger cabin? That doesn't make sense to me. Also, how would he have gotten access to a cabin anyway? Unless someone let him in?
-
Agreed. The focus should be 1) on prayers that the young woman recovers and 2) looking at cruise line protocols that allow anyone and their brother --even when not on duty -- access to passenger cabins. Even aside from the personal security issue, which is absolutely horrific to contemplate -- I would think a bigger temptation might be for petty theft. We have always attempted to keep all valuables in the safe when we are not in the room, and try to remember to put them in the safe before we retire at night. But so long as the criminal isn't too blatant, they could steal a few dollars here and there every single day and probably never get caught. If there's $100 in assorted bills laying on the counter, people probably aren't going to miss $5 here or there. Big items, people would miss, yes, and blame the cabin steward. Then, I think the cruise line can tell who has accessed the cabin with a key and could catch the person, and probably also find them on video? I think there are videos of passageways? I personally was unaware that so many people can access cabins without the passenger's knowledge.

This young woman is alive today because she fought for her life. Bless her for that. I hope she heals, although I am sure it will take a long while.
I do hope that there are some policy changes that take place as a result of this incident. Frankly, I do not see a reason why a person delivering food needs to have access to a cabin. If the person doesn't answer the door, leave it in the hall or something. And, as someone else said, they definitely shouldn't have those keys when they are off duty.. Just an awful, awful story.

Our most recent cruise was in a 'true aft' cabin on the Crown Princess. Definitely, it is a LONG way to the front of the ship. Otherwise, a really neat place to be!
-
Looking forward to B755 this weekend!! :)
-
OK, sorry, Caribbean Princess is not the same as Emerald. We're looking forward to it, that's for sure!

I was on the July 10 sailing and had an aft stateroom. B755.
The vent did not bother me and I loved my aft stateroom.
I honestly dont know what people are complaining about.
Starz723--I am confused about which ship you are talking about. Is it the Emerald?? If so, do you have any pictures of B755?? We are in that cabin in October, and would love to see some pictures!!!
Carnival Liberty...Anyone got any info about the current cruise?

Ship locator shows her in STT, which is where she is supposed to be today. I seem to recall from the other thread that there were several people supposed to be on her now. Shame on them, for actually enjoying their vacation, instead of sitting by the computer!! LOL!! Yeah, it does seem like someone should give people a little something, after the great job that pauley did!
