Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Oh yum! My go-to is a little old-a Nikon D90 that "Santa " brought me the Christmas before our Alaska cruisetour. When a camera feels right in your hands it just works more natually than the latest & greatest that you have to adapt to. My regional camera shop has the latest & greatest software to work with your stuff & I write surrounded by awesome shots up to 20X30" Small & portable is good, but give me quality!
  2. Oh no! A Micro TEC! There's a flashback! I worked for a cell company in a rural area w/a lot of hills in the early 90's & we did a LOT of installed 3 watt phones & bag phones! (Young ones-ask your grandparents!) That company was taken over by one quite larger w/a 3 letter name, so things have certainly changed, but if I had to I'm sure I could still climb up onto a truck roof & repair a broken roof mount antenna!
  3. Covid (& large recent expenses-I'm looking at you HOUSE!) have kept us closer to home lately, but after having my passport for almost 35 years & will not let it expire. DL regs have changed, but the passport goes on & on. My most recent experience was when I took a pile of sticks to our local yard waste dropoff. They chip them into mulch & return it to the residents. My car @ the time was a 20 year old sedan-not exactly the contractors dump trucks. We had just received our renewed passports & I was going to drop them off at the bank box on the way home. The keeper of the dump got in my face as was his habit, so when he asked for ID I produced my newly renewed passport. He went nuts! He yelled at me that it was NOT AN ID! I think he'd just never seen one before! So, although the staff at border crossings should be more professional, you never know what you'll run into. As for me, I'll carry any ID that I have-just in case! (Oh, and the rest of the story is that he's not the gatekeeper @ the dump anymore & the contractors were very nice to me!)
  4. Multiple guests hauling them in 100 at a time-really? To each his own, but luggage is an enemy of the airlines & I'd rather save space for my clothes or souveniers. I'm certainly not paying for extra pieces of luggage-there are too many fun things to spend that money on! Just frugal I guess....
  5. My mother was on PD for several years & took her own equipment but arranged delivery of supplies to the vacation rental through her dialysis provider. (Liquids are HEAVY!) You might want to talk to your clinic, they probably have dealt w/this. I worked for a DME company at one point & we frequently coordinated oxygen delivery to travel destinations. Travel is possible with chronic conditions, although I'd be a little nervous relying on airline schedules with recent weather & damage delays. If you can drive to the port-GO for it!
  6. This is the first I was aware of this-it's kinda silly, but shouldn't vacation have a little silly? (can you say towel animals?) As long as people aren't breaking into your room & filling it w/ducks, who is it hurting? It sounds like the people hiding them are having fun with it (fun is GOOD) but if you don't want to, you don't have to-it's YOUR vacation-enjoy it your way!
  7. So nice to hear that I'm the only one who doesn't feel the need for a smartphone. Woman's clothes tend not to have pockets large enough to carry them & I really don't want to go back to a backpack! Still, more places offer no option to "Scan this ugly code" including my Alma Mater. Oh well, no other option means you don't want my business or contribution-Simple!
  8. He will no doubt enjoy tons of attention from his full time "family" (crew) & lots of new friends all the time. If his "personality" is agreeable with this he'll have a happy life. Lots of dogs are neglected or abandoned-he certainly won't spend his life chained on a deck & he will be a great joy to those he will love. Dogs are great!
  9. My Alaskan cruise was not solo, and not with Princess, but we also had a balcony & think the idea of a solo breakfast with a toast to the snowy peaks is fantastic! I hope it works out for you, and don't miss the experience of gliding by those snowy mountains in a hot tub on deck with a refreshing beverage! Excellent!
  10. I don't have one either, because I don't want one & would rather spend my money on fun stuff instead of a clunky electronic leash, but more & more you have to scan, or app, or something to get something as simple as a sale on canned goods. Some of the organizations I'm involved with are so proud that the only way to access their display info is by scanning one of their ugly codes. I remind them that not everyone has or wants a smartphone, but I believe that the day is coming when I won't be able to read a menu without one. Well, guess I'll know who wants my business! Hopefully by then, woman's clothes will come with pockets big enough to carry one of these bricks-your average jeans will hold one tissue & a key fob. Who want's to tote one of these around & worry about it being stolen on their ship?
  11. I've never had them on a ship, but there was one in our laundry room when we bought the house. Why did no one ever think of this before! Walk in with hands full of laundry basket & they come on! Oh, but no one sleeping in that room to be disturbed... Just an idea for home
