Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. In my opinion Regent does a great job taking care of solo travelers. I've met very nice people and there is no pressure to join in for dinner or cocktails. Cocktails were at 6:45 and dinner usually began at 7:15. Depending on the size of the group, usually 8 - 10 nightly with folks coming and going so the group was always different. Members of the entertainment department would also join along with guest performers, which made for interesting conversation.
  2. Let me begin by saying that I am a fan of Regent and that I have over 100 nights with them and I will book additional trips in the future. On board Regent offers Solo travels nightly meet ups and group dinners that are hosted. Regent also offers solo travelers select cruises with zero or low supplements. BUT I feel it's necessary to bring to the attention of other solo travelers how we are treated when booking. In my opinion Regent misrepresents deals. I just cancelled 3 cruises that I had booked back-to-back-to-back on the Voyager because I was told that I would get the lowest price guaranteed in writing. Upon returning home the three cruises were all on sale with additional discounts and on-board credits which I was told I was not entitled to receive. My cancellations cost me $1,500. There are more and more solo travelers than ever and we as a group should receive all that couples receive. Remember a two for 1 deal is a 50% discount per person and they get the upgrades and other offers which solo travelers don't. Hopefully Regent representatives will read this and changes will be made going forward. One suggestion I have is that Regent should contact Solo travelers directly and offer us deals on last-minute unsold cabins as my recent back-to-back cruises were only 80% of capacity.
  3. To Lisajltx My original visa was only for 90 days. I just received the Regent Email. Thanks
  4. The frustration continues as I can't get straight answers from Regent. Each person one speaks with has a different answer. I leave on Dec 26th for the Capetown to Capetown sailing on the Voyager and I am going on the Capetown to Rio leg as well. I've wasted many hours on the phone with Regent and many hours on my computer trying to get my visa. The fact that one cannot speak directly with a representative of the company is beyond me. Yes, there is a phone number to call, but it is a recorded message which is useless. I've now sent an email to my TA to ask what happens if I can't get the Visa. When I sailed on Oceania thru the Amazon in 2016 I received my visa without a problem. One would think that Regent would be more helpful regarding this issue. I read one post that said that Regent was allowing passengers without a visa on board, but one first must be allowed into the country and without a visa how does that happen? Good luck folks.
  5. Hi I am on the Voyager Capetown to Rio Jan 12th. The post cruise hotel is the Sheraton Grand Rio.
  6. I just got off the Voyager sailing from Istanbul to Barcellona. I love traveling solo and Regent has many cruises with "0" supplements. I am booked on the Capetown to Capetown with "0" supplement and Capetown to Rio with a 25% supplement. Every night there is a solo get-together followed by dinner as a group. You're joined by entertainers and other staff. It's a great time.
  7. Thank you for the information. I was told that the pre cruise was not available due to Christmas. I am doing the post cruise in Rio. I just finished 14 nights on the Voyager Istanbul to Barcelona and have 3 cruises back to back on the Voyager 34 nights Antwerp to Belfast to Barcelona to Athens.
  8. I'll be sailing on the Voyager Dec 28th then staying onboard for the Cape town to Rio sailing. I'm looking for recommendations for excursions for these itineraries. Also, some of the excursions say no cell phones and would like an explanation.
  9. I've just used my 20% 7* discount on a 20 night Copenhagen to Amsterdam on the Navigator. Booked it with my TA as Regent was unaware of the program. I've booked a Nov 4 14 night Istanbul to Barcelona. I've also have a Dec 28th round trip Capetown and a connecting cruise Capetown to Rio that also includes 3 nights in Rio. All 3 cruises are on the Voyager and I travel solo.
  10. jkhneuber I've used OBC before and thought nothing of using it prior to my cruise as I purchased the drink and speciality restaurant deals.
  11. Spurschick, Glad to read you're going to be on a Regent cruise. You can be in a YC cabin and have the special restaurant, but be real MSC doesn't compare to Regent. I took the cruise for the 18 days at a great price. BUT all my complaints were justified. My post would have never been posted if MSC had responded like a company that values it's customers. The TA was new and my not doing my homework was my fault, but again when one reads the posts MSC is after a different customer therefore I've moved on.
  12. jkhneuber Well said. I made the mistake of listening to a new TA because the price was right on a new ship. Usually the customer is treated better, but not with MSC. I should have done my research. We all have ideas of what we expect and based on my experience mine weren't met. Life goes on and I'm looking forward to my upcoming Uniworld river cruise and my Regent cruises I have booked.
  13. MSCDIVINA2016 If what one receives for a low price sucks you right it off, spread the word and never go back. Some people like low prices so that they can sail more often. As for me I learned my lesson and will never set foot on an MSC ship again. I currently have 4 cruises on my calendar beginning with a Uniworld river cruise in April. Then in June an NCL in the Med followed by two Regent cruises in August and November. While the Seascape was a beautiful ship everything else about it sucked in my opinion. It is a company that is geared towards a customer who doesn't have high expectations.
  14. To Spurschick, As for the TV channels I like to keep up with the news and I also like to relax watching a movie or two that I should not be paying extra for. As a resident of Las Vegas I rarely play in the ships casino unless I find a game I haven't played before is available. I never knew about using the OBC to gamble. Currently I have 4 cruises booked beginning in April on a Uniworld river cruise for 10 nights. In June I'm on NCL for 14 nights in the Med. In August I'm on a 20 night Regent and in November I'm on a 14 night Regent now that they have cruises with no single supplement. And since I'm retired I'm always looking for a cruise with a low single supplement. In closing I only posted my correspondence with MSC because the original answer I received was total BS. I gave them a chance to respond prior to my posting and they didn't therefore over 5500 have read my post and hopefully some eyes were opened. I didn't request anything, but did state I should be compensated and that was for the OBC.
  15. To Spurschick, You're right I looked at the cost and the fact that it was a new ship that looked very nice. I no longer use that TA. As for being in the YC things would have been better maybe the food and the other passengers, but not the other issues that I wrote about.
