  1. I have a cruise booked out of Port Canaveral Sept of 2015. One of the guest on my reservation is coming from Romania. I know flights are not yet available this far out. I am wondering what my seasoned travelers may think would be the most economical way to book flights from Romania to Orlando. I have considered looking at CruiseAir but they do not seem to offer flights from Romania.... Looking forward to any advice you all can offer so when the time is right I can find the best travel options for everyone.

  2. Hi all....

Does the Radiance have a cigar lounge anymore?

What activities are available the days the ship is in port......trivia, MUTS etc?

    Thanks!

We will be sailing with you!!!! There is a fairly active roll call for this sailing if you are interested in dropping in to say hi, if you have not already. Cannot wait until Friday!!!!

  3. A card is usually compromised at a retailers end, not the issuing company. Target had a recent high profile breach that affected thousands and thousands of people from all card companies. Most likely some retailer you use the card at has had a breach that could potentially include your card information, hence the bank issues new ones. Now I am not a fan boy of BOA by any means, in fact I rather despise them. However I have had my RCI card for a number of years but rarely ever use it, I have not had a data breach or been issued a new card.

  4. The only problem keeping phones on to text while on the ship is you will be charged for any incoming call as soon as it rings, even if you do not answer it. You would also want to be darn sure your data is completely deactivated on the phone. All these smart phone apps will use data in the background even if you do not realize they are. Data is horribly expensive. Personally I turn on the phone once a day in the evening to check for text updates from family back home, but I would NEVER leave my phone turned on while on the ship for texting between people on board. Just my two cents.

  5. Absolutely loved it. I booked independent of the cruise line and cannot recall what company I used. Coordination at the pickup point was a little hectic and could be better. But once on the road all went smooth. Scenery is amazing. There are multiple courses to choose from also. Well worth the money. My only recommendation is if you book independently get there early. It's not difficult to find the location and I had arrived early but apparently they had already sent the driver out. Also make sure you find whichever company you booked as there are many there that will try to snatch you away to their lines, they will even say they are from your company so look at the signs they hold and read them carefully. Or pay a little more, book through the ship and be picked up at the pier.

  6. Extra $5 surcharge by Transit buying the ticket in the machine at the Airport to depart.

I did not know this. We used the sky train last time we sailed out of Canada place but we came in by Amtrak that time. This time we are flying in and staying at the Westin Wall Centre. I figured worst case we could take the included airport transportation back to the airport and jump on the sky train. Might have to rethink that if it's an extra $5 to purchase tickets there.

  7. We are from Orlando. We are leaving on the 13th since we are not doing the land part. Want to spend a couple of days in Vancouver. I was there once for a day for business and always wanted to go back. Okay going to try the roll call. Now I just realized that the port in Seward is A 120 miles away from the airport any idea how we make plans to get to Anchorage? Thought vacations were suppose to be stress free! :)

Train booked through RCI leaves from the ship dock in Seward and ends at the Airport in Anchorage. Leaves in AM, not sure exact time. Train booked through Alaska Railroad leaves at 6pm, a little cheaper than booking direct with RCI but train leaves from depot in Seward not dock and arrives at depot in Anchorage not airport. Also bus options or car rental via Hertz, just Google bus from Seward to Anchorage if looking for bus times and costs.

  8. I personally think a high speed rail would benefit both Port Canaveral and the greater Orlando area. Cruise ships make ports of call to Port Canaveral but after you factor in travel time and hassle getting into Orlando it doesn't leave much time to really see or do much. A high speed rail could cut this travel time down and make planning easier and more appealing. Thus bringing more tourism and money into Orlando from cruise ships.

Port Canaveral would benefit from easier faster transfer options from MCO to the port. As an out of state resident I do look at difficulty going from airport to cruise port when making my decisions. Granted MCO to the port is not that bad it is still harder and more costly than say FLL to the port. I again see this rail as a hassle free and hopefully economic way to get to the port. Reducing that hassle could increase passenger base for cruises leaving out of Port Canaveral.

    Just my two cents.

  9. I think what everyone seems to be missing is that when you take advantage of a price drop you are actually canceling the previous reservation and rebooking the cruise. So if you book within 6 months the discount is $25 less. That is why we can only do this before final payment when the price is 100% refundable. It's really a big plus to be able to do this. Consider this, when you book a year out you usually get a prime location cabin. You take those cabins out of the inventory. They could easily say that you can cancel and book based on what cabins are available and re-enter your "prime" cabin back into inventory, then you would run the risk of losing it. But they don't. They simply reduce the amount due. Consider grabbing a center hump balcony on Oasis with the much larger balcony. Then having to place it back into inventory to rebook for the lower price. Honestly, I don't think I want to see a bunch of complaints over a $25 reduction in discounts. It could end up with them making you have to cancel and rebook.

    Just my opinion.

I agree fully with this statement. I understand they work it differently in the computer and you keep the same booking number, etc. But the point is RCI does not have to do it this way. They simply do because it's more convenient for the guests. They could just as easily say no re-pricing of cruises. If you find a lower price and wish to book it then you can cancel your existing cruise and book the new rate. How many complaints would they receive if they did this? The point is they can. You are taking advantage of current prices on a prime location cabin that you booked earlier. I see no reason that the perks you get should not directly collaborate with the time of when you are receiving the price. Book early at the early rate, get the greater C&A discounts. Re-price within 6 months of cruise at the current price receive the appropriate C&A discounts for that time frame. This holds true when upgrading also. You are taking advantage of current market prices then your applicable discount should also apply to the current time to collaborate with prices. I know I'm in the minority here but I am sorry I think you are all making way to much out of this.

  10. Hi all,

I just book our first family cruise tonight (5 night West Caribbean) on the Explorer of the Seas. I was looking over the shore excursions and notice that each Port of Call (Cozumel and Nassau) only show 3-4 each. Is that because I am 311 days out from our cruise?

Thanks for your help in advance.

You must be on the November 29th sailing....We are also. If you have not already you should join the roll call! Many more excursion options will become available closer to sail date. Both Nassau and Cozumel are ports with MANY shore excursions offered. Maybe RCI hasn't finalized pricing with vendors for the fall yet. But I promise more options will show up.

  11. Once you go balcony it will be very hard to go back. Now that said, I LOVE ocean view balconies. Much more private and the serenity of just sitting there staring at the ocean is wonderful. Plus usually some nice views in port too. Depending on where your boardwalk balcony is though you will still get some great ocean view. The ones more aft I've heard give great views of the wake as well as views of the aqua theater.

What you do is up to you. In essence losing the OBC you are actually spending $70 to upgrade to an ocean view. Is this worth it to you?
