  1. We are getting ready to leave in a few weeks for a cruise on the Getaway.

Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on their favorite bar, favorite bar tenders or favorite servers?

Also your favorite place to hang out? Possibly to play a round or two of cards?

How are the specialty coffee drinks?

Any advice and tips are welcome!

Our favorite before dinner bar was Mixx. Favorite drink: Toma Awww wish I had one now!

We ate at O'Sheehans many, many times. I'm embarrassed to say how many. Usually just for a between meal snack, not a full meal. The Thai Chili wings are SO GOOD. The Moscow Mules there were not too bad. We almost always had the same server and he was so nice! We never had to wait to be seated and we were there at all different times of the day. I think the only time I would avoid it however would be when they are showing a movie in the atrium. There was an action movie one afternoon and I gotta say, those chase scenes got quite loud and the sound carried right into the restaurant.

Do not miss Million Dollar Quartet! In fact, see it more than once if you can. It was amazing. I was so surprised by the level of talent and the quality of this show.

We had a few rounds of rummy in the card room actually! We enjoyed it and once another couple was in there and it was fun to hear their ribbing of one another as they competed. Sounded vaguely familiar ;)

Le Bistro and Cagney's were quite good. We had reservations for La Cucina to round out our 3UDP but decided to return to Le Bistro.

The iConcierge app is great to use. We only used the free functions but it was really helpful to be able to pull up the menu's for each day, see what was going on, etc.

    Have a great time!

  2. Thanks.

I called Norwegian and they told me you couldn't use the drink package while in vibe. I could tell she was new because she kept putting me on hold to get the information. She also said the OBC they give you when purchasing a pass can only be used in the vibe.

I would love to hear people's reviews on the Vibe.

We just came back 9/25 and purchased Vibe passes with a cabana. We paid $329 (apparently the price has been raised from $299) We received $100 credit to our account. We had a UBP and 3UDP and booked our excursions off ship so we had nowhere to use our credit. We were told we could use it anywhere on the ship to answer your question. So we figured we'd play Bingo or something. Well no need because by the last day we could see on our account that the $100 credit was simply applied to our entire account. Since the only thing we charged was the $329, our balance when we got off the ship was $229. The way we looked at it was we simply paid about $70 more for the cabana. And I feel we got every penny out of it. We loved having our "own" private lounging area any time (well anytime before 11 p.m.) we wanted it. We never had to be concerned with were we were going to lounge, have a drink, read a book, take a nap, etc.

Have fun no matter what you decide! It's a beautiful ship!

  3. Hi - I am getting on the Getaway next Sunday, 10/2. I know the Margaritaville is very, very new on the Getaway so if anyone has just gotten off I have two questions: (1) does Margaritaville serve breakfast? free or charge? (2) Are the margaritas included in the UBP?

I also have a couple of questions about Vibe -(1) Do you buy the pass at Guest Services or at Vibe? Everything on cruise critic says to buy at Guest Services. The NCL Rep on the phone told me to go directly to Vibe. (2) I see on here that people don't like that Vibe closes early. But again, NCL rep told me it stays open until 11pm. If anyone just got off, do you know?

Lastly, we are taking our 10 year old son. Hoping for at least a few other kids. Anyone who cruised this week - did you notice many kids?

    Thanks!!

We got off the ship on 9/25 and Margaritaville wasn't open as another poster mentioned. I was bummed because we really enjoyed Flamingo Grill and are fine with changes but to not have either was disappointing.

We purchased Vibe passes and a cabana. I went to guest services once I was on board and got them there. Vibe's bar closed at 7 p.m. each night but we could be up there until 11 p.m. They told us we were more than welcome to bring drinks up from another bar. I'm really happy we purchased Vibe. It was quiet, saw only a handful of people all week, the chairs were comfy, the cabana was very peaceful and private, and the attendants were amazing all week. I am not an early riser on a cruise so the thought of having to "secure" pool deck loungers does not appeal to me. Neither does the idea of laying one inch from the person next to me. If we wanted noise, music, activity... we would head to the main pool. But for quiet chats, reading, napping... Vibe was our go to! Enjoy your cruise!

  4. and we're booked in the Haven Spa Suite, but is there any need for us to also book vibe tickets when we board?

My opinion is definitely not. Years ago on Jewel we had a Courtyard Villa (now Haven) and just a couple weeks ago we purchased Vibe on Getaway. Don't get me wrong, we had a wonderful time in Vibe with a cabana but I'd take the Haven any day! Although at that time there wasn't a bar there, can't speak for it now. Vibe had a nice little bar with awesome attendants who served fruit kabobs throughout the day so there was no need to leave until you got truly hungry :) And who gets "truly" hungry on a cruise? ;)

  5. My friend and I are newbies to NCL. Our package includes drinks, but we wanted to add the 3 meal specialty dining also. My question is, did we wait too long to book the restaurants on-line? I looked at Cagney's and the first availability on-line is for 9:30pm! Are there also reservations available when we board this coming Sunday? I think it's a better deal to book the 3 meal on-line, but want to make sure we get into Cagney's.

Thanks so much! We leave this Sunday and am starting to panic!

We just returned 9/25 and had the 3UDP. I saw the same times online before hand but once we got on ship we had no problem getting all three booked for the week, where and when we wanted them. We also switched our final dinner just the night before to a different restaurant and it wasn't an issue. Enjoy!

  6. We are leaving tomorrow for our Getaway cruise. I seem to remember from our Breakaway cruise that there were normal hairdryers in the cabins. Can anyone confirm this? On other cruise lines I bring my own as the hairdryers are very strange. No need to bring anything I won't be needing.

No only do they have them but it was better than my own!! Actually wrote down the brand so I can replace mine!

  7. My husband and I were on the 9/18-9/25 sailing and saw your show. One word: AMAZING. You were all so great and VERY talented! I didn't know anything about the show which is very odd to me because I love Broadway shows and try to catch every one that comes to SF. It was a great evening! Thanks so much! Your mama sounds so proud too :) As she should be!!

  8. I wouldn't give up on the idea until you've boarded and checked guest services. We just sailed 9/18 to 9/25 and I was a nut about getting Vibe passes this time. We flew in on a red eye from West Coast and arrived at the terminal before 9 a.m. We didn't board until close to noon! We were one of the first guests going into terminal once they opened the door but were then queued for over an hour in the waiting area before security. It was basically hurry up and wait for almost 3 hours. We were boarding group 3 but were no where near first people on the ship. Lots of other groups were being escorted through. Long story short.... I stressed the whole time. Only to get to guest services where there was no line and no one waiting to get Vibe passes. We splurged on a cabana and I'm so happy we did. We went to Vibe almost daily and I never saw more than 8 people at one time. Most of the time we were the only ones! Had the whole place to ourselves a couple of evenings. The attendants in Vibe were amazing and I liked seeing the same faces every day. Good luck and have a great time with whatever you decide!

  9. Loved your review!! Mainly because DH and I were on the same sailing!!

It was great to hear how your experiences were the same/different than ours. I thought about the Thermal Spa passes but we chose Vibe instead and even splurged on a cabana. But if we are fortunate to go again, you have convinced me the Thermal Spa is a must!

Thanks for taking the time to write your review! Sounds like you had a fab time as did we!

  10. Thanks for the replies! I went back to find the video and having trouble locating it. Found another one that shows a Sky Suite on Eclipse where the gentleman actually states that the rain shower head is too low for him at 6'4" and he claims if you are 6'3" or taller it will be an issue. Sounds like it will be a bit uncomfortable for hubby :(

  11. This is our first Celebrity cruise and we are excited to have booked an aft Sky Suite on Deck 12 for our anniversary in a few weeks. Love that it has a tub but I had viewed a youtube video that showed a man stepping into the shower (clothed, to try it out lol) and he had to bend his neck sideways to fit! My husband is 6'4" and I'm 6' so needless to say I'm a bit concerned about it. Can anyone tell me if this was an issue for them if you are 6' or over?
