Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. This is the correct answer. Embarkation is an "act", not a date. You can argue if embarkation is when you board or if it is when the ship leaves but that is not questioned here. Since it is an act, the statement saying "prior to embarkation" means prior to getting on board (or ship leaving). When the statement says, "prior to date of embarkation", then it is referring to the date that the act is scheduled to take place. So when it states the date of embarkation then you have up until midnight the day before to get it done.
  2. Was there an issue with traffic at the port? I have this picture of going the final quarter mile in an hour because everyone is doing the same thing.
  3. To follow my question above, would it be actually easier to Uber to/from Pier 11 and then ferry over to Red Hook since it docks a few minutes of walking away?
  4. I really appreciate all the knowledgeable folks getting in this thread. We did a cruise from the Manhattan port last year and you guys helped a lot then as well. We are doing a last minute cruise out of Brooklyn in 3 weeks. We come in to Penn Station on Amtrack (based on great recommendation from last year). It is more expensive than subway/bus but we are thinking it is easier and worth it to use Uber. My question is......what is the traffic like at the Brooklyn pier for Uber. We are coming and going on Sunday but concerned about getting a quarter mile from the terminal and then crawling along the last bit for an hour. Might be a stupid question, so if it is then just say so.
  5. Thank everyone for responses. Can I ask why do you recommend using a Travel Agent. I have never used one before.
  6. Have cruised many times but mostly on NCL and Carnival. Last one was on NCL and we tried the Haven since we are now kid-free and can afford a little more. Am looking at a cruise in March on MSC Meraviglia from NY as a last minute kind of thing. Have never been on MSC so would be interested on any comparisons between NCL and MSC and also between the Haven and the Yacht club. Just did some looking today and they seem pretty much the same.
  7. Email says they will prorate the cruise (including prepaid gratuities) for the lose of the one day. Also said they would reimburse port taxes for Portland and Boston. Seems fair since there is nothing they can do about it. I am not one to blame and demand stuff when it is based on weather. Not saying you are either, but some folks amaze me with demands in cases like this.
  8. Well there are a few thousand people getting off and on in NY Monday morning so they have to do something
  9. According to cruise mapper they are supposed to depart at 1700 tonight
  10. This may be covered within the NCL form, but when my parents took our kids for any length of time I gave them a notarized letter from my wife and I saying they could make medical decisions. Luckily never had to use that part, but better safe than sorry.
  11. We have taken the plunge and upgraded to the Haven for our Sept 4th out of NY on the Joy. I have spent hours today reading the many pages of information which I am grateful for. One thing I didn't see was a posting of the Haven restaurant menu. Granted , the search function here and on the NCL website are not the best. If anyone has a picture I would appreciate if you could post it.
  12. We always do, and would recommend it for same reasons mentioned above. Did have an issue one time where my luggage was "delayed" getting to our room and our reservation was on the early side (maybe 6:00). I was wearing t-shirt and shorts. Talked to the front desk and the call the restaurant to see if it was ok. They were cool with it, but I did feel a little awkward not being dressed appropriately
  13. Easy to google and get a long list of places to get a lobster during the day we are there. If there are any local folks or frequent visitors on the board I would love to know where you go for lobster. Wife and I prefer the non-tourist, sometimes hole in the wall, places that the locals go to.
  14. We are going to Canada in about a month and the excursions on the NCL website are not understandable. For instance if I look at Halifax, the NCL website shows excursions to other ports with not explanation if it is for Halifx or not. An example is Enjoy a beautiful walking tour on your day in Halifax of the Boston and Cambridge areas Clearly not a Halifax excursion Any other folks have the same issue?
  15. Was hoping to get a little advice from those in the know. Our cruise finishes in Quebec with the final 2 days (really 24 hrs) in Quebec. We are planning to stay an extra day somewhere because we hate to race off the ship and go to the airport. Flights from Quebec back home to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania are expensive, leave at 5:15 or 6:15/30 am, and most have long layovers for total travel time of 7+ hours Since we have a full day in Quebec my thought was to get off the ship, travel to Montreal (train, bus or rental car). Do a few things for half a day in Montreal and then fly home the next morning. Flights from there are cheaper, shorter and leave a little later in the morning. We would also get to see the sites/country side between the 2 cities. Would appreciate any thoughts on what I am not thinking about. Also, any thoughts on rental car versus public transportation from QB to Montreal Thanks in advance
