Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Just a little bit of a warning, we were once stuck out in the channel due to high winds and barely made a 2:00 flight from Hobby (much closer than IAH). There is also sometimes a fog issue in Galveston. 99% of the time, you will make it but be prepared to go with an alternate plan if you don’t (later flight, possible overnight with a next day flight)
  2. If you want a great run and cruise, I suggest the Miami half marathon- I think it is sometime in April. Have done it twice and it is great. Run along South Beach as the sun is coming up and then over the causeway looking at the ships in port knowing that in a few short hours, you will be on one in recovery mode. Started running in my 50s- ran 2 marathons in one day- my first and last! (New York in 2004). Have done 3-4 half and many 10k and 5k. At 72, not so much anymore though I try to run 2.5-3 miles 3 or 4 times a week. Keep at it and respect the rest days! Any run you finish on your feet is a good run, regardless of time. Sorry for the derail - now back to cruising and relaxing
  3. Chiming in as we are looking for the opposite. We debark in Trieste and are staying in Venice for a few days post cruise
  4. I hope I a pleasantly surprised in December when we sail in our first on Apex. I visited one and thought it would be okay for a week, but we shall see. We are normal balcony fans and really like the sunset verandas, but they are hard to come by.
  5. We are booked with a group and not sure if we would be eligible for a Royal Up offer. On our last Royal cruise, (booked independent) we received an e-mail with the offers. On Celebrity, I seemed to remember a spot to check for “Move Up” offers but I can’t it on Royal. I find both of these websites less than easy to navigate. Does anyone have an email address that I can a send a request to? Thanks
  6. Quick ?. Are there any discounts for Diamond members on purchasing the drink package. If so, how do you purchase. Thanks in advance
  7. Apparently, between last Sunday and Monday, I have become lactose intolerant. Don’t drink that much milk but I do like cream in my coffee. Are there any options (never looked because I never needed to) or should I bring my own non dairy options. Thanks
  8. We are sailing December 9 on the Apex. We generally pre purchase some type of dining package. After looking at the restaurants, we are most interested in “Dinner on The Edge”. Would this be an option with the dining package? Thanks!
  9. I’m not sure of the excursion, but if beach is what you are looking for, it is pretty easy to just take a taxi to the beach yourself.
  10. The casino on the Allure 2 weeks ago was disgusting. Sorry smokers. That is probably the one reason we won’t be on a Royal cruise any time soon. Rest of trip was amazing but the entire atrium level midship stunk of smoke. You could smell it as soon as you got off elevators. The non smoking casino was probably 1//10 the size of the other. There is a non -smoking side, but the smoke apparently doesn’t follow rules. We became Diamond on Royal and transferred to Elite on Celebrity and for the past few years that has been our cruise line of choice. The smoking casino and the bumper car stroller derby just isn’t for me.
  11. You don’t have to buy the internet package. We were just on the Allure and one of our group did not get it. We were able to send them messages regularly through the app. They apparently got them, because they always replied. Like I said, the notifications were hit and miss but I did get most notifications when I had a message
  12. We had the internet package, but I think I you go to your settings and enable notifications from the app, you will get a notice. Sometimes though, even with the package, it is hit or miss
  13. Not to start a debate on tipping, we always leave the automated tips, tip bartenders as we go and leave extra at speciality dining and for room stewards. We have not been in a suite on Royal and are unsure what is customary for the concierge. I understand tipping is a personal thing, but would appreciate any advice or guidelines. Thanks
  14. We have made an 11:00 flight out of San Juan with plenty of time to spare. As many have already said, don’t forget the AG inspection. We always booked the earlier flights (we live in Wes Texas, so anything else get us home really late) with the knowledge that if we missed it, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. If we ended up having to stay another night in San Juan, Oh Well! If you are going to stress and worry the last few days of the cruise, I would book a later one. If you can roll with the punches, go for it. Just be prepared with alternate plans just in cases. (Kudos to anyone who gets the two Jimmy Buffett❤️ references) Karen
