  1. Just a little more about earthquakes. "The Hayward Fault Zone is a right-lateral strike-slip geologic fault zone capable of generating destructive earthquakes. This fault is about 119 km (74 mi) long,[1] situated mainly along the western base of the hills on the east side of San Francisco Bay." You can think of them as massive rock walls, that are constantly moving with protrusions. The plate only moves millimeters a year, but above ground, they offset curbs, sidewalks and make big arches in the roadway down the hill. There was a fault line speed bump for a long time on the road along the western base of our hills. As these walls are moving, they occasionally get stuck on the immovable protrusions on the continent on the other side. Because the Pacific plate is moving so slowly, it still sometimes gets stuck. (And for a long time) And because it is so massive, when it finally releases and slips, and keeps moving, that is what causes our earthquakes. It is an interesting and unpredictable event.
  2. It looks like you have an Insurance Commissioner, too. Let them know you are having issues with the company: https://www.insurance.pa.gov/Consumers/insurance-complaint/Pages/default.aspx Thanks for the clarification. I hope it works out for you eventually. They are registered to sell insurance in your state, so the Commissioner has clout.
  3. WOW. That was really close thing. Or you definitely would have been spending several days in Florida. Much better to have been at home during that time. 🤨
  4. Thanks. No problem. We have small ones several times a year. The last big one was in 1989, so we are all slightly concerned that it might be leading up to that again. The small ones (hopefully) relieve some of the pressure on the faults. Thanks for asking. ☺️
  5. You went above and beyond for your boss! I hate buying cars. When I bought the Outback, I drove it, said fine. This dealer does not negotiate. (thankfully). I said I will write the check, and we had to stay there for an additional 4 hours. To check my credit, try to sell me an extended warranty and all the other garbage that goes along with a car purchase. I was so annoyed and just exhausted when we finally got home. And the dealership was an hour and half away, because they had the vehicle that I wanted. He does owe you lunch! And cocktails. It is just a draining experience. 😀
  6. We just had another earthquake! Two in a day. It was larger this time, but quick and not alarming. 3.3 and local. Felt this one. ☺️ I hope the bigger earthquake up north did not aggravate our faults nearby. These small ones seem to be moving south as the tectonic plates slide. ☺️
  7. Thanks for asking. We're fine. The 6.4 earthquake yesterday was about 300 miles north of us. We had a little 3.1 quake locally, this morning. We didn't even feel it.
  8. 45 here now. It won't get to 11, but probably below freezing. I left the faucet on drip, where it gets even colder at the other house. And there is snow. I can watch it on the camera, to see if it is still dripping... or if we have a problem. ☺️ We really aren't looking forward to living there.
  9. And BTW. The cat was fine, and Samson lived 3 more years after the cancelled cruise. It took a year for mom to get back into her repaired and remodeled home. ☺️
  10. They do. Your room steward will bring it midway through the cruise. But you can request it any day you wish, s/he will drop off a bag or bags.
  11. I love your hair and baby Zoey! I try to get my hair cut and layered all over like that. You have great layers. I think yours is thicker, Sue. You both look wonderful! ☺️
  12. I don't think I ever ordered on my own, when I was 3. It probably would have been something unhealthy like ice cream. His parents can order whatever they wish for him. 😄😀
  13. When I used to drive all day for work, it seemed that the traffic would get worse and worse until the lead up to Christmas. And then the few weeks before the holiday would be absolutely awful. And then it would slowly diminish a bit over the next few months until the joy of school summer vacation. And then it would start building up again in September. The SF Bay Area has bad traffic all year, but there are definitely peaks and lulls. 😄
  14. I can't address the company's lack of communication, but you are either cancelling for a covered (medical) reason and your doctor fills out the required paperwork. And you receive a cash refund. Or you cancel for any reason you want and receive a future cruise credit for a % of the cost. It is not clear whether you are filing a claim under which benefit. Presumably the insurance company is aware of the reason. The one time we had cruise line insurance, my mom wanted to cancel because her cat was sick. I was so mad at her, that I was going to wait until the next day. She would have received a probably unusable % FCC, for a frivolous reason. That afternoon a giant tree fell on her house rendering it unhabitable. So, I was able to file a claim for a covered reason, and she received a full refund. Of course, I had to do all of the filing and submit the photos and insurance reports. ☺️ In CA, we have a State Insurance Commissioner, and you can file a complaint with that office, they will assist if you are having problems with a company.
  15. Okay. Thanks. I just thought the yellow flag photo was interesting. ☺️
  16. Not exactly. "a yellow flag hoisted by all ships to request pratique on entering a harbor, or by a ship to show that it has contagious or infectious disease aboard, or by a ship that has been quarantined. called also yellow flag, yellow jack."
  17. Me too. And gosh, they are miserable bites. Last time were in San Juan, we walked down to the Pueblo supermarket. And I had bites just from walking on the sidewalk with grass on either side.
  18. And just for fun. We are really moving, soon, or eventually, or some year. We were cleaning out books today, and I came across this photo that I took in photography class, and developed myself in high school in the 70's. Back story: It was taken at Children's Fairyland in Oakland. Monkey Island was down a secluded path, and it was surrounded by a very shallow moat. The squirrel monkeys would routinely run across the moat, play around in the trees and then they would all run back to the island if someone came down the path. This particular squirrel monkey ventured all the way out to the lawn, for his goose encounter. It is not a great photo, but it has always just tickled me.
  19. Clap on 😀 Clap off😀 That is sooo funny. I remember those commercials. I love it! I think more people use Alexa or Google Assistant now. We don't have a tree this year and haven't gotten into smart plugs.
  20. *I think* If it is non-refundable OBC, guest services still won't give it to you. We tried to get it one time with the shareholder credit, and they said no. It was DH's credit, but they were able to transfer it to my account, so it covered my purchases in the shops. We just purchased a few more things. I don't know how cash advances work, though. So maybe that would be an option.
  21. Definitely, a Christmas card worthy photo! What a great, quick trip you had. We will have to visit there one day. ☺️
  22. Congratulations Sue! How long does it take to have a baby after mild contractions start? Never had one. I am hoping everything went well. And you and granddaughter will almost share a birthday. ☺️
