IMHO...I think this is a sea turtle. Yes, the neck does seem a little long...so it might be the rarely sighted 'long necked' sea turtle!!!! :p

Like all the others have said before me Mike, your review and pictures are simply fabulous. I'm so happy that the 'proposal' went off without a hitch!!!! ;)

I look forward to the rest of the review.....!

    Joyce :D

  2. I posted this as a new thread...wrong spot.

For some sailings this Fall on Jewel.....great Senior rates solo. Wish I could go, but have to pay for my January cruise first.

The cruise is out of Boston which is perfect for me because I wouldn't have to fly. Just a cheap bus ride...:D

I'm leaning more towards departure ports where I don't have to get a flight, sure cuts down on the cost of the cruise...and I'd like to stick to X or RCI to attain Diamond Plus status. With already being Diamond, there's a great balcony discount....so if the base rate is low, then a balcony becomes an even better deal. Have to look at all the deals....:D

  3. Hello everyone!

Thank God we're all safe and sound. I must say we're very lucky not to have been caught in the floods.

So much distruction, it's an unbelievable sight.

Authorities are doing all they can, trying to have Funchal back to normal as soon as possible. Cleaning work is underway day and night, but it's a hard long job.

Our cable connection was restored just a while ago and I had to come here straight away.

Thank you so much for your concern and all the kind thoughts.

    God Bless.

Biara....I'm so relieved to hear that you and your family are fine. What a horrendous sight...I've seen some pictures and video taken....such devastation....be strong...lots of prayers going your way for you and your fellow countrypersons....you'll remain in our thoughts until all is back to normal!!

    Joyce

  4. Wishing you the very same, Biaria. I truly hope that you and Daniel and your family had a wonderful, relaxing and peaceful Christmas!

It is so nice to have a local person able to answer questions and you are always 'there' to answer all of our questions, and answer them well!

    'See' you on the boards!!

    Happy New Year, too!!!

    Hi everybody,

I wish you all and your families a

    Happy Christmas

    and a

Wonderful New Year with lots and lots of cruising.

  5. One can "have" time. If one is buying a rug for the color, weave, workmanship and spending say more than a few hundred $ it will hopefully be an event to be enjoyed for the rug as well as the experience. I can't imagine having purchased any of the rugs in our home in less than a couple hours if I had done it in Turkey, even with pre research. Couldn't imagine squeezing that into our day in Port. IMHO, or at least for me and the wife it would have been a 1/2 day affair or whats the point. A rug isn't a trinket that goes on some curio, NO?

True enough, a rug isn't a trinket. Some people know exactly what they like and want and can make up their mind fairly quickly. I bought a lovely bedside rug in Morocco last year....they tried to sell me bigger, more expensive rugs...and yes, they were beautiful but not what I wanted....I stuck to my guns and bought my bedside rug...with haggling of course. They expect it...so I gave it to them. I love my rug and it took about 45 minutes.

  6. Thank you for taking the time and effort to help all of us. Can you recommend a private driver for the day? We do not generally enjoy organized ship excursions and prefer to go at our own pace with a private driver. We love wine tasting and especially enjoy dining for lunch at local establishments as opposed to tourists spots. Thank you again.

    MamaQuack

Hello MamaQuack....we used Daniel of www.danielmadeirataxis.com in April for our tour of the island. I found him as a recommendation from another person on Cruise Critic. We weren't disappointed! He was able to take us to everything we wanted to see, plus more. He tailored our day to suit us, because we had reservations in the afternoon for tea and therefore were doing more than a half-day tour, but less than a full-day tour. He was so sociable, knowledgeable, friendly and just a very happy person. He knew all about the island and was able to answer all our questions. He met us after dropping us off at the cable car, and tobaggon ride, and took us to a wonderful local restaurant for lunch where I was persuaded to eat a Black Scabbard sandwich....and was I glad I did....the best sandwich ever!!! The prices were very reasonable too.

I would not hesitate to recommend Daniel and I hope you do a tour with him. You will take away many happy memories of lovely Madeira!!

Enjoy your cruise and day on Madeira!!

  7. I can't speak for Splendor, I was in a far forward cabin on Glory a few years ago and felt no motion at all. I think it purely depends on sea conditions.

This October, I'll be in another 1A, with portholes, on Dream and am really looking forward to the wonderful experience. I'll be far forward as well.

These cabins are wonderful with the roominess...and having a porthole is a great added bonus!!

  8. Cruisetmc....according to the deck plans, your cabin has porthole windows. I really liked my cabin on Glory..it was also on Riveria deck, cabin 1211 with two portholes.

I found it nice to be able to look outside and see the weather, blue sky, the odd ship.....and it was nice to have daylight come into the room.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the cabin.

  9. I think they're great too. I wish more ships had single cabins. I think a few do...but not too many. I guess they make too much money charging the 200%...and we still book them, so why not.

I liked the portholes too.....just the fact that it's nice to look out and see the weather, if nothing else.

My single cabins had real beds. The pull out was up above...but wasn't required.

There are a few things that I don't enjoy about Carnival...but the 1A's are the best about it!

    They are a great value.

  10. Nice to be bumped to a 6A.

If I want a 1A with portholes and there is one available, then I book that particular one. If no portholes available...then gty would be the smart move...then you could be lucky enough for a nice upgrade.

My friends on Glory who booked 1A gty's were bumped up to an inside double.....no portholes.

The 1A I had on Paradise was great...a nice square room...lots of room to move to get dressed, come in and out...etc. My location was near the aft....can't remember te deck...I think 4...but not sure.

Is that where your's was.....RD64? I do remember everynight about 8 or so...the engines revving up....what a noise that was!

  11. I've stayed twice in 1A's on Carnival. You realize that there is just one single bed....and a pull down berth from the wall. Not much room for snuggling...if that's an objective.

Yes, they are roomy enough for two people. My first 1A was on Paradise...it was basically a square room, lots of walking around space. Nice sized bathroom...no problems at all.

My second was on Glory, and I was able to book one of the 1A's with portholes...that was nice.....you could watch the weather, the ocean.....and not pay the price of an OV. The cabin was more the long, narrow type...still, lots of room for two people. In fact, some of my tablemates came to have a look at it, and they were impressed. They also were in 1A's, but without the portholes.

I do have pictures of the Glory cabin....but not on a public site...just in my pictures. If you want to give your email...I'll gladly send them to you.

  12. I hope I'm still cruising and 'with it' well into my 80's and hopefully 90's...why can't time stand still......LOL

Sounds like you've had great experiences meeting these wonderful storied folks. They are interesting to listen to.

Maybe I'll be fortunate to meet up with one of them sometime in the future.

  13. All great ideas....I do the same..if there is a waiter in the area..I let him know that I will be right back....and if there is no waiter...and if someone sitting nearby looks like they are going to be there a while...I'll simply ask if they could keep an eye on my stuff that I'm just getting a coffee and will be right back. You would be amazed at how friendly and accommodating other cruisers are. Deep down...most people wish the best for others and are so eager to help....as you would if the situation was reversed.

But, I don't leave a big valuable sitting there..I wouldn't want to burden another cruiser with having the responsibility of worrying about an expensive camera being grabbed off the table....so I will simply put my camera around my neck before I ask a neighbouring table to watch my book, food, etc.

Solo cruisers do have a few more logistical problems than couples...but it does all work out.

  14. Also, there will be about 20 quilters on the Carnival Glory, Nov. 5, 2005. It isn't a quilt cruise...just a quilting group. I think they are going to do their own classes. They all live in Florida near the port and I believe that they are bringing their machines.

I quilt, but won't be in their group....but do hope to meet them and see what they are doing.

Enjoy your quilt cruise, Suzanne, and the Mariner of the Seas....have been on her and she's a beautiful ship.
