  1. Facebook Princess Forum. So many furious posts about Crown in Alaska this month, cancelled ports, et al. People saying Crown should not have sailed until mechanical issues fixed. …..serious downers.

Mike’s posts adding perspective, thank goodness. The plumbing issues with thoughtless, ignorant passengers would make me furious.

  2. It is always interesting to me how many people beat the system this way.

It did pay to take the time to stand at CS and ask for an upgrade for many when ship less full. Somehow, we were/are not interested in doing this scrabble. Prefer to secure cabin precruise and pay for it.

Interesting-- my offer didn't include Tahiti as an option that I noticed; what category was it under? I ended up booking a 20d Carib Explorer and a 20d Central/MexRiv.

My third pick was a Hawaii that one of my family hadn't been on yet, but for some reason, the Oct 4(?) on the Sapphire was showing up as unavailable according to the rep, despite it showing up as one of the ones that were valid via the link and in the fine print.

That cruise is sold out. I had no idea those offers would apply to 15-30 day cruises to places like Hawaii or overseas. I have an offer but have not followed up because I, too, only want to go out of LA for now.

If people want to use different toilet paper, they need to dispose of it responsibly. If anyone asked their room steward what to do with it, that’s what they would tell the guest to do with it.

Anyone knows that putting Kleenex in toilets clogs them up & causes plumbing problems. We were in minisuite & tp holder right there. I used the thin paper: it did not kill me for 7 days. Maybe I will bring my own roll of tp which still will be fine to flush as it is tp, not Kleenex. If you cannot reach holder, do what another poster said: take it out & put on counter. Really, how hard is this !

Yes, I thought the same about the escargot - not a hint of garlic flavor or aromar! That was on Discovery!

I had escargot on Discovery April 3-10 and it was like they use to make it….delicious

  6. Discovery April 3-10. always ask the waiter/waitress what to recommend.
we enjoyed the meal. Everything tasty and presented well. I had the seafood broth wrapped in parchment which was delicious. The dessert sampler was the best on the ship.

It is interesting to me that they were not charged. Must have reaked with unhappiness. Wonder if others in the restaurant were as unhappy.

I am very surprised Princess didn’t take any action, perhaps it was because they couldn’t prove it but then again it sounds like the man admitted it.

We have been on a few P & O Cruises where people have been removed from the ship at the next port and have to pay their own way home. Once we saw 2 youngish women causing a commotion in the theatre and apparently they must have caused more trouble later that night. The next morning we saw them being escorted off the ship with their luggage by an officer. Also heard reports of people being put under guard on the ship for doing not much more.  It was famously reported in the papers about two families got into a fight in the buffet and both families were removed from the ship at the next port.

They should have taken your situation seriously after all this guy could hurt someone next time, I wonder if he was just obnoxious or had a few two many trying to get his money worth on the drinks package.  I actually think P & O would have removed him plus family or given him a really strict warning at the very least.

Wow, I need to be cruising P&O. Like to see consequences for bad behavior.

I once dealt with incidents such as this one and most much worst on a daily basis. Personally, I would have taken the cabin down grade  and  would have gotten as far away from this guy as possible.  Nothing is as important as your safety.   It sounds like the Princess security officers simply want to pacify both parties and then be on their way. Im sorry this happened to you.

Agreed. I would have moved myself away from them asap. Happy to be away from the noise and tension.

Moving enough air to clear the smoke would also move enough air to keep virus concentrations below the infectious threshold, but that’s a big engineering lift in systems built to the standards of 20 years ago.

Regardless of COVID I would prefer Princess make the casino slightly negative pressure with automatic glass doors in and out, to keep guests’ and employees’ exposures to nuisance smoke to an absolute minimum.  This, combined with air exchange, would make a healthier and more pleasant cruising environment.

I was on April 3-10 cruise, played at BJ tables often. No smoking at tables, only in slots. I am sensitive to smell of smoke. There was no smell at tables when I played or I would have left. If you played in slots, there was smoking. Manager also confirmed this.

Everyone has to do what they think is best for them.

I have been reading the various threads on problems at San Francisco port this week.  Doing so because this is my home port, booked in December on the Royal on a 15-day holiday cruise to Hawaii.

What I gather from what happened.  Two ships in port this week in SF.  Seems shoreside staff who handle all ships, not just Princess, may not have been fully staffed or prepared for two ships.   Before we go in December, I will be checking the cruise terminal schedule to see how many ships are in port.

Some reports are that all there was some delays in passengers getting off the ship or in picking up or claim luggage.  New passengers cannot board till all passengers and luggage cleared.   This problem could happen any time, I guess.

Following this because I am traveling with a family member with mobility issues.  I know from experience no special arrangement available at the port for handicapped passengers until you get in the terminal.

Once before I waited 5 hours in line, well before Covid when the Grand arrived late from Hawaii because of an injured passenger on board that delayed the ship.  At that time, no aid for folks with mobility issues at all.    Waiting passengers were allowed into the terminal to use the restrooms only over the 5 hours wait for boarding.   That was at Pier 27 the new terminal.    Read no bathrooms available at old terminal Pier 35 this week.

Given these experiences I will definitely come prepared if we have to wait to board.  Will bring a walker with a seat for my mobility challenged family who can't stand for hours.   Will also come prepared with a hat to wear to stay out of the sun and an umbrella if necessary.   My DH who just turned 90, did stand for 5 hours last time there was a problem, may get him a walker with a seat just in case.  Travel is challenging, has been for some time for a variety of reasons.    All we can do is take actions to be prepared for the unexpected as best we can or stay home.  I elect to plan ahead so I can continue to cruise.  Port problems seem less of an issue than flying these days at our age.

Happy cruising, doubt there is anything Princess can do to change port issues.  Princess can be honest and up front about what caused problems, so passengers can voice their concerns locally to those responsible.   As a local citizen I would like to be proactive.

Excellent post. Do some research people so you know what to expect and come prepared.

Same here.  Last couple of times at CG, our steaks were so thin they only had one side. Ba-dum-dum.  Food was tasty, service was great. They took great care with the bottle of wine we brought, properly decanting and serving.  But when push comes to shove, we came for a great steak and got a very tasty, but thin cut of beef.  Questionable value given the price.  The menu options are more varied at Sabatini's and when we order and share different things from the menu in places where we have choices, we wind up with a wider and more enjoyable dining experience

I have started ordering lamb chops as my ribeye has been disappointing and not a good cut.

    My friends,

So many of you miss the point.  It is NOT the $58.  It is the way that Princess handles its Customer Relations.  It is the operation of the Medallion App.  They have some major issues.  They don't handle it well.  It could be me and $58 this time...It could be YOU and $10,000 next time.  But, really, it is tens of thousands of customers...

...and, unfortunately, there are a lot of you who just "let it go"...

Letting it go allows them to continue to have poorly trained phone representatives...It allows them to say anything in order to expediently turn away problems...It allows them to LIE.

So, why am I so "obsessive" over this?  Because I am trying to help EVERYONE here...even if it costs me way too much time...and there is very little I can get out of this in the end.

I would like Princess to be a BETTER cruise line.  I want them to solve their problems and provide better service to all of us.  Because I plan to cruise a whole lot more and I'd like to minimize these unfortunate issues in the future.  And I'd like all of YOU not to run into these issues on a regular basis.  I want to get through on phone lines that aren't jammed with people who can't get their app to work.  I want to book cruises, handle the easy details, pack and go...

Princess CAN do better...but only if their customers demand better.

Suggest offering to hire on as a consultant.seriously. All your points well taken but you are driving yourself crazy trying to get someone on Princess with authority to fix the problem.

  13. Sailed on Majestic in Dec. I checked retirement for my husband & asked for delivery on Thursday. It came and went until I called Customer Service around 5. Yes, she saw it checked. When we got back from dinner there was champagne with 2 glasses and chocolate covered strawberries.

The next day we found her in CS and gave her $10

Princess was kind enough to move us at no cost from the "upgrade" VC L229 to VC M507 on 'live chat" with no waiting time and a minimum of fuss. I know that M507 is under the Lido Marketplace, but to me, that is preferable to L229 under the Hollywood Pool Club, with the possibility of the DJ band setup immediately overhead late in the evening on one or more nights as has been reported here with apologies to those below. VC anywhere is still an upgrade from original BB. DW and I are happy. Hope we make it aboard.

Hollywood pool club at night is not busy as ship not full. Only a bit of noise early on starboard, with chairs being moved. Never would I take cabin under buffet as chairs moving around very early. Probably be ok now as ship not full.

I did see that you got some snarky replies suggesting that you might not be capable of using the supplied holder.

That would make me a little cranky, too.

Accepting that everything is the users' fault, is the best way to avoid that pesky re-education!
