  1. We are first timers going to Venice (actually first time in Europe!) in just a few weeks. :D:D:D

I was thinking about going on-line and pre-booking tickets to St. Marks Basilica to avoid having to wait in line once we get there. I don't want to waste any time while we are there. It sounds like there is going to be so much to see!

When I looked at booking the tickets you have to choose a specific time. Our ship docks at 9:00am. We were thinking about going in the morning. How long does it usually take to get from the ship to the Basilica?

We are also considering buying vaporetto passes. Not sure yet as we do love to walk and we might not use them enough to make it worthwhile. Our ship is staying over night so we might go back and forth a few times. Can you buy the 12 hour pass where you get on the vaporetto?

This is the last day of our trip:(, so we are thinking that we want to spend most of it just walking around and taking in the sights. We didn't book any tours because we want it to be a more relaxed day. Wandering around and getting lost a few times sounds like fun to me! Thanks to everyone who has posted info already. It sure has made planning this trip so much easier.

  2. Hi Banana Bread,

We went through the RIL website link to get our Vatican tickets. They take your credit card payment at that time and then send you the tickets to print off. You pick the time that you want when you arrange the tickets. I'm not sure what happens if you are late because you do pick a certain time, but I'm sure they give you some leeway.

We paid $100 euros for our Pompeii guide.(We booked it through RIL)I'm really looking forward to going there, it's a place I've always wanted to see so I wanted to make sure we get the most of it. I'm not sure what the price of the audio guide is.

    Hope this helps.

    Only 30 days to go!:D

  3. Yesterday I went online to order my Vatican tickets for August. I went to the tab on the RIL site and connected through there, so i think it was a legitimate site. It took my credit card info and looks like it has been paid by my CC.

My concern is that I thought that you were not able to pay by CC on that site anymore.

Does anyone have any new information on this? Has it changed?

    Thank you!

  4. We have booked this excursion for this August. We want to do Pompeii first to avoid the afternoon heat. We are wondering about the travel time to Positano from there. Will there be plenty of time to drive there, see the town and drive back, and of course hit the winery too! I have heard that the coastal route can get very busy and be slow. I'm sure RIL would not offer it if it wasn't doable but I'm just wondering if anyone out there has done this excursion and can comment on the timings. We sure wouldn't want to miss our ship!

  5. I just wanted to thank everyone on CC that posted about the 123 promotion. We are cruising in the med in August, a trip that we booked back in April. I would never have thought that we would have been eligible to get these benefits as our cruise had been booked a long time ago. Thanks to everyone here, I called my TA this morning and by this afternoon she called back to let me know that she was able to get us the deal. We are so excited! You guys are the best:)

  6. We are going on an eastern Med cruise in August 2013! So excited!!! From all of the fantastic reviews on CC, we plan on using RIL when we are over there. We are planning on spending 4 days in Rome prior to the cruise. We want to use RIL for tours in Rome and the surrounding area as well as at the port in Naples. My question is - how far ahead of time do you book with them?
