Sailing soon (yay!) on FOTS - wondering from recent cruisers, Have there been any theme type parties that we should try to plan for in advance.  Any 70/80/90s parties? Disco nights? Anything else?

Just a suggestion, wouldn’t it be more obvious to use a word describing what the award is for, rather than “rare” ?  

 

For instance, the word “blog” with the ship symbol?  That would lead me to go look for a Live Review from that poster!    Rare does not.

We are using this feature "out of the box" per say.  So far we have only created the one badge, and used default settings that were there from the developers.  We could completely remove the "rare" - or change the parameters.  As this is our maiden voyage with badges, we are testing the waters 🙂   We will see where this ship will take us.

We do search for new trip reports daily and to be transparent - I search for the term LIVE in titles. Sometimes we may try other keywords -- and if all else fails members can email us or tag us in the thread to let us know they're starting one 🙂

We can award this badge for each one - so you will see multiple on the profile of someone who has been awarded multiple - will always take suggestions into consideration as well 🙂

The moderators only seem to see what they want to see. I have a guess what rare might mean, but I rather not post it, because then the moderators might give me a 7 - 10 day vacation. 🙂

Unfortunately, we don't actually read every post made on the forums even though we would love to.  If you do have a question that I can answer (or perhaps one of the hosts could) the best option is to email us or tag one of us on the thread so that we will be alerted. Otherwise it is all up to luck whether or not I come across a post such as this 🙂   

Rare does refer to the badge that is shown on the member's avatar. In this case it is the LIVE FROM badge (the ship) - and less than 10% of members have been awarded this badge 🙂

Not sure why that worked either, however the image issue will be corrected with the next software update.  I don't have an ETA however

Award of the "ship" appears to be very haphazard - could become divisive?

It is a manually awarded badge - as there is no easy way to automate finding a live from review!  We are awarding it as we find and promote the Live reports to our LIVE reports page: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/ourpicks/    

Members are welcome to email us OR tag us in their LIVE FROM if we have not come about it on our own, so that we may add it to the page and award the badge.

This is something new, and unfortunately no way to automate to go back in time to award.  I am working to award many of the more recent.

Right now we have both - Rockets on ranks (however this could change!)

and the Ship is a badge awarded to those who write LIVE reviews while sailing 🙂

Also, what do the number of points until your next rank signify?  If I look at the number of posts and add this to it, it doesn’t add up.
 

3/14 is your rank out of all the ranks 🙂   Ranks are for post count, and badges are seperate from that.  They can be awarded for other forums activity.  At the moment we have badges for Live Reviews on the forums 🙂
