  1. I noticed most everything has fondant and fudge, does anyone know if buttercream and strawberries are an option? Unfortunately for us we are on the Epic which does not have the specialty bake shop. Thank you for whatever info you can provide!

I just got one of the party package cakes on the Breakaway (not a Carlo's cake) and there was not an option to choose when I ordered, but it came with buttercream frosting and a strawberry filling. There was some chocolate and strawberry garnish on the cake. It was yummy. :)

  2. In January my parents were on the Gem and had their balcony door open while in port in DR. A bat flew in their room. They had to call the room steward to come help them get it out. That pretty much soured me on keeping my door open during my trip this past week. I love it in theory, but worries of bats would have had me sleeping with one eye open, so not worth it to me!

  3. They were not giving out lanyards on the Breakaway. We brought one with us and had a hole punched for dd. You need both the adult and child cards to swipe at sign out. THey were annoyed on the last night because when I went to pick up my daughter, she had her card with her and I couldn't just hand it over with mine to swipe before they called her down. Made no sense to me - why would I carry around her card? The whole point is that it is HER card!

  4. It was only 1200 kids.... But they seemed contained.

When I asked at Splash Academy during registration on the first day, I was told over 1600, but 600 of those were teens. I think the number that actually registered for Splash Academy wound up being closer to 1000.

  5. Glad it worked well for you. I was on this sailing and had a different experience. My 10 yr dd went the first night, which for her age group was held in the Bliss lounge. There were so many kids that playing games took a long time and she was miserable sitting in the sidelines after getting out in an early round. Within 40 minutes she was texting me to come get her. I could not convince her to give it another try until Friday. It was held at Splash Academy, but when we got there they were full to capacity and we were turned away because there was no space. She went back the last night and had fun, but we were generally disappointed in Splash Academy. I am sure that the staff was great, they were just way over the capacity they could accommodate.

  6. I just got off the Breakaway and attended the Cirque show. I wouldn't day the food was terrible, but it wasn't anything special. The show, however, was spectacular and I think much of the food served web tun eaten because people were too wrapped up in the performance to stop and eat. I don't know about the food on Getaway, but assuming it is the same, I would go for the show and plan on eating dinner elsewhere that night.

  7. I'm trying to do some light planning of entertainment on the Breakaway and have a few questions. Thanks in advance! You're all so helpful and insightful!

    • Is it true that any paid dining and entertainment booked before sailing must be paid with a credit card through the website? YES

    • Is the premium Second City Show ($20) worth it? Don't know, didn't go.

    • Are the fireworks on the FL/Bahamas itinerary always on Friday (2nd to last) night? I have seen some itineraries where it was on one of the Bahamas (GSC or Nassau) evenings, so I think it varies.

    • Do the Cirque shows ever sell out? I'd like to wait till I'm on board to use my OBC, but don't want to miss out. Don't know. I would guess that you could probably get in at some point during your cruise since there are 2 shows per night.

    • Are reservations for the free entertainment actually honored? It was my experience on Epic a couple years back that despite making reservations for everything, nobody ever checked and it was pretty much a free for all, even if you arrived 30 min before showtime. YES. When I was on the CTN, they swiped cards as you went in. Then, if people didn't show up at a certain point, they opened up on a standby basis.

    See answers in red above.

  8. I have been hunting on NCL's web site to see if I can find anything on the perks of having a suite... apart from the Butler and Conceige( sorry cant spell)...

I also thought I saw a link in a post here but can't find that either.

Does anyone know where I can find this information and point me in the right direction.

    TIA

Perhaps this is what you are looking for:

  9. When NCL issues OBC in instances like yours it doesn't post to MYNCL, instead it is posted as an amenity. They always send me, at my request, an amenity sheet. Ask your TA to get this from them and bring it on board with you. As suggested above, it is wise to bring this documentation with you since Guest Services on board will not just take your word for it and even with documentation they still sometimes make a project out of it but checking with Miami, etc. etc.

Thanks for the tip. I will definitely ask my TA to get the amenity sheet. This is OBC from NCL, not my TA (there is additional OBC from the TA that she has already told me will not post until after I am on board). I just got nervous that the NCL credit wasn't showing on the account.

Looking forward to meeting in just over a week! :D (sorry I missed you on the CTN)

  10. I called my TA this morning because I saw a price drop on the cabin I have booked for next week ($300 less than I paid). She called NCL and said they agreed to give me an additional $75 in OBC (yay! never hurts to ask). I don't see it posting to myNCL. It is still just showing the OBC that was there before. At what point should I follow up with TA if I don't see it? I don't want to be a pest, but since they agreed to give the OBC, I want to make sure that I actually receive it!

  11. What is there to do on board the ship if it's too cold to swim or sit outside? One mom and two teen age boys? Thank you.

If the 2 day CTN is any guide, there are always lots of planned activities with the cruise director staff - trivia, bingo, deal or no deal - movies in the atrium, video arcade, etc. Even when it was cold, the outdoor hottubs were still open and occupied. Plenty of options, the only problem being that some of the indoor spaces are small and get overcrowded when you have 4000 people confined to the indoor areas on the ship.

  12. Yeah - would love to hear more about this... I have heard that you can buy in advance via phone, and not pay tax... but what is the part about not charging for drinks on day 1?

I think they mean that of you buy the UBP on day 2, you pay to purchase for the entire trip, including the per day charge for day one. Therefore, if you bought drinks individually on day one, you don't pay the separate charges because they will be covered under your UBP (assuming they were drinks included with UBP). You are still paying, but only the UBP charges. The drinks are not "free".

  13. Okay, I agree. But there is still no assurance that an open balcony is private so there is little to nothing the cruise line can do. Everyone is saying "take the camera", "break the camera", "throw the camera overboard" and those actions would make security take action- against you, maybe even getting you chucked off the ship at the next port.

Have to respectfully disagree with you here. I am sure there are many variations on different laws, but see an example here:

    http://codes.lp.findlaw.com/cacode/CIV/5/d3/3/s1708.8

Constructive invasion of privacy if using a visual device - like a camera - to see what would otherwise not be publicly viewable. If they had to "send down a camera" to see beyond the OP's feet, then there was an invasion.

Furthermore, if these people had dropped cigarette butts or debris that hit the op's would there be no culpability because the op's had an open space above them and could not expect freedom from physical invasion? If there was mal intent or reckless behavior, those people people should be held responsible for their actions.

For the record, I wasn't suggesting taking the camera to steal it, but to return to security so that the offender could explain their actions to otherwise indifferent ship personnel.

  14. Incredibly creepy. Reminds me if the stories you hear about perverts spying on people in public bathrooms. I would have grabbed the camera and called security when they started banging on my door to get it back. That might have gotten some notice!

  15. The spa facilities are on 15. The treatment rooms are on 14. The staff takes you downstairs to the treatment rooms from inside the spa. There is a door on 14 that's for crew only. I've used it bc my cabin was right across from the door on 14.

Good to know that I didn't imagine that they were going to lead me out from the treatment rooms on deck 14! I was starting to think that I hallucinated in my massage-induced stupor. :D I'll have to see if I can locate/use the door on 14 as I suspect it is pretty close to my stateroom. If not, I could probably use the extra bit of exercise going up and down those stairs.

  16. There is no direct access from the spa suites to the spa and no spa access to deck 15.

Really? I am surprised. When I was on the deck 14 level for a massage, the therapist offered to show me out on 14, but I declined because I went up to use the thermal suite after. I will be in a spa suite in a few weeks and was looking forward to convenient access from the suite to the spa. Disappointing if that is not the case, but I suppose I will still manage to enjoy it all... ;)

  17. What venues serve breakfast on Breakaway? Is it served in the MDR, the cafeteria restaurant?:)

Is there both an indoor and outdoor pool?

Breakfast is available in the MDR, buffet, uptown grill, room service - lotsof options.

The pool is outdoors. There is a pool with a retractable roof in the haven area for suite guests only.

  18. Under what circumstances will NCL refund for a shore excursion? I pre-booked the Atlantis Aquaventure tour for my upcoming cruise, but am worried about whether since it has been so cool. If it doesn't rain, but is not really warm enough for a waterpark, can I get a refund? Dd will be devastated if we can't do the waterpark, but my wallet will be devastated if I can't get the refund! How have others handled this type of situtation?
