Well damn. Looks like more DFW connections for me...if I can't take that daytime ORD-LHR, I'd rather do DFW-LHR and get some extra sleep.
-
Uh oh...it looks like my business travel life may be changing dramatically. Looks like AA recently (like, a week ago) dropped the daytime AA90 and I don't see it coming back, even in the summer.

I fly between ORD and LHR fairly often...at least several times a year. There are definitely late afternoon flights you can make without having to worry. I mean, it's never a bad idea to spend that night in London still but...should be plenty of flights you can make. One recommendation for the trip there is to take the daytime ORD-LHR flight on American Airlines. Leaves ORD around 9am, arrives LHR around 10:30pm on the same day. In my experience, this helps your body adjust to jet leg significantly quicker because you aren't necessarily having a rough, restless night of sleep on an overnight flight, but rather getting to your hotel (albeit at a late hour) and sleeping in an actual bed.

"Home" is a very vague thing too. Do you live in Johannesburg where most (all?) flights leave at night? Sure, no problem. Do you live in Detroit where the one nonstop leaves in the morning? Maybe not. If you're planning to do a few days in London anyways, why not just spend the day you step off the ship as an extra day in London? Then you will have no stress in getting to any airport.

Hell, I think the only year-round ATH to USA flight is that (fairly random) Emirates flight to Newark. And the timing on that one makes it pretty much impossible to make a same day connection out of EWR after arriving.

One of my favorite hobbies, when I have time, is to totally mess with scammers (those who call me, or those who try to get me on the street...not like I am making calls just to mess with them, but maybe I should). I try to waste as much of their time as possible and get them as hopeful as possible, just to tell them at the end that I know what they're trying to do. It's so fun.

Hey, don't even need to be retired! My wife and I did a similar cruise last year and we're work-from-home contractors who can do most of our work from anywhere. Ours had two in Greenland and two in Iceland, but otherwise quite similar.

I highly doubt the scammers had the info, and agree with the post about me...social engineering is the number one scamming and cybersecurity threat, and it's very easy to trick people in to giving up info. Scammers are good at this, and a lot of people give up info way too quickly. I agree that it's always best to go to the REAL website to call the number, or check your REAL confirmation email (much like it's best to call the number on the back of your credit card if you need to reach the credit card company, even if "they" call you first). My mother-in-law just got scammed because she googled a phone number and clicked on some stupid link instead of going to the actual company. $1000 later...she now knows the term "social engineering".

While I don't have any issue with the, and I know most people don't...some definitely do. My mother has done it a few times and always gets a bit sick, so she avoids them like the plague movie forward.

Just got back from some work in UAE and Jordan. Had no concerns about either. Heck, I'd still go to Beirut...but I'm a little crazy. 0.0 concerns about UAE.

Domestic flight Johannesburg to Cape Town
Zach1213 replied to pompeii's topic in Africa & Middle East
I wouldn't put too much trust in airline reviews. Plus, "mixed reviews" is basically South Africa in a nutshell. I could say more as a Namibian but I'll leave them alone 😉 I like Airlink quite a bit and would take them if all other things are equal. Never really had a bad experience. FlySafair is your typical low-cost carrier, and make sure you know every cost associated with it, but beyond that they're a fine airline. Haven't flown SAA in years, on purpose. Never flown LIFT. -
We need more info. Depending on the flight and the time of year, BA has A350s, B777s and B787s scheduled on this route. It's not as simple as just saying the city. If you look at your flight and see an aircraft type, that'll at least help us to give you a correct answer.

Yeah, I've always had great service on JAL. They always get really, really excited when I order Japanese food and drinks too, and then go over-the-top to make sure I enjoy it.

Yeah, I don't see those slips as often as I used to. I, too, would guess this is what happened.

How close to departure time are Qantas flights usually booked?
Zach1213 replied to PR-Texas's topic in Cruise Air
I'll echo the previous statement...flights are important, and if you don't trust the "person" booking your flights, why are you using them? I don't like to put anyone in between me and my provider (airline, in this case), let alone one I don't think knows that they're talking about. -
Good choice. I found this trip report that shows the seats and how narrow/claustrophobic both that entrance and the seat itself could be to someone taller and/or bigger. I know some people do like the coziness of that window seat but...those people are wrong 😉
-
It's a bit of a squeeze to get in/out, but unless you're overly big or have mobility issues, you should be fine. They do feel a bit narrow and claustrophobic to me, so I pretty much avoid the window and stick to the aisle as much as I can.

I can comment. It's nice. It's nothing amazing, but it's a lot better than most airside hotels that are essentially boxes. This one feels like an actual hotel and you wouldn't really know it's not just a normal hotel unless you looked out the windows and saw the inside of a terminal. Gym, small pool, restaurant, room service all available if I remember right.

In my experience, most of the rooms just look over interior courtyards/lobbies of some kind. Or their "Zen Garden". It's not bad, because you're still several stories up and there's a lot of light coming in from the interior spaces but...I still don't like it. If I'm staying for anything more than a sleep, I try to get an exterior view if at all possible.
-
I hate that hotel. I always go with the Novotel Citygate if staying at HKG...it's a bit of a shuttle ride but worth it. Also, regarding your "inside view" room...it's not unusual, actually. Heck, even the Sofitel at LHR, which is one of my absolute favorite airport hotels in the world, has most rooms looking inside and not outside.

Hopefully OP is looking at Oryx Hotel, which is indeed airside. It's quite nice, I've ended up there a few times.

I've had Qatar "link" reservations, but to be fair I don't know if that provides any protection on Qatar...just meant my bags could easily be checked through, etc. So I'll just echo the sentiment that separate tickets, even within the same airline, can still cause issues, even if they are "linked". Doha is seamless and easy, and Qatar is a wonderful airline in J. I fly them as often as I can.

Hey it's not mine either, it just felt very...search engine-y 🙂
