Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I could see where that would be anxiety producing for some. I do not necessarily think they need to announce the numbers ship wide, but I do think they should be available for those who seek them out and have anxiety by NOT knowing how bad it is to gauge their behaviors so they feel safe.
  2. Another point I have never experienced: We had Stream for the entire cruise and for the first 8 or 9 days of the 11 days it was fine. Because they give everyone in quarantine free internet and because we had a LOT of Covid on our sailing (Eclipse May 4 Hawaii to Vancouver), the last 2-3 days the internet even with Stream was painfully slow. Another on our ship who was in quarantine with stream could not even complete a hotel booking to complete her quarantine on land because the connection kept timing out. Just keep that in mind with your internet plans.
  3. Thank you for sharing your detailed experience and so sorry you had to go through it. I agree with all of your "knowing what I know now" points. Our family member is ending up having to stay 11 nights in Vancouver. Five are supposed to be paid by Celebrity, along with the meals for those nights. The other 6 we got for her using points, lucky we had them to spare. I'm definitely done with cruising outside the U.S. until there is greater transparency without the chance of an unplanned 11 night stay. Unless the cruise lines do a better job of managing Covid, I agree with whomever above said there are other safer vacation options and I will make use of those.
  4. What Celebrity does depends on your departure point and date. If you follow all the rules, you get a prorated future cruise credit or refund (your option, FFC is the default and you have to call for refund) for the days you are quarantined ON THE SHIP. If you test positive on debarkation day, you are on your own and Celebrity is only involved if local law at your debarkation point requires it.
  5. The current cruise is not as active in posting, and I have seen no more about it.
  6. This right here is the best advice. If you are doing to cruise, plan for Covid because you have know way of knowing. I boarded my cruise with a mild concern but not a plan, and we were not prepared. Know the Covid rules in advance in your departure and arrival ports if outside the U.S. for a sudden positive test, and have a plan for what you will do if that happens. It happened to us, we had no plan, and he had a lot of stressful scrambling and trying to figure things out all while receiving conflicting information.
  7. She is 78 and driving is not an option unfortunately.
  8. I don't have a link. That is what the Delta agents at Vancouver told us when one of our party tested positive, that per Delta rules she would not be able to fly until the 12th day.
  9. Thank you for that info. We may be doing the same early next week.
  10. We just left the Eclipse Sunday after 11 nights from Hawaii to Vancouver. One of our party of four tested positive at the airport. Many from this cruise reported through various threads on this group and other social media related to our particular cruise having tested positive during the last half of the cruise or once ashore. The captain mandated masks on day 8, but it was too little too late. The dining room was eerily empty toward the end of the cruise. It seemed as if half the passengers "disappeared". Of course we were never told numbers, but a Delta agent said one of the cruises came in 50% positive that morning. Some of those continuing on to Alaska on the next cruise are reporting that the bars are now closed and dinner is taking long because of so many staff out with Covid. On our cruise, many of the butlers and most of the concierge team were taken offline by Covid quarantine. So I would say it is not going well. I feel lucky that three of us avoided it, as the fourth is stuck in Canada for 5-12 days (there are other threads to detail what happens when you test positive in Canada). After this experience, I'm done with cruising for the foreseeable future until things change significantly. Just for information, it was my third cruise during this and the first two were no problem. I assume that is because masks were still required and we didn't have yet another more contagious variant.
  11. It all happened so fast we did not have a lot of time to research. We were told that no doctors would give a Certificate of Recovery (this is in Canada) until day 10. If you have info about how to get it in shorter time, we are all ears as our person is still in Canada on day 2.
  12. You do need a proctored test for Celebrity to help with anything. Also for the flight home. Be alert for airline rules as well. One of our party tested positive at the airport after getting off the ship in Vancouver. Canada requires 5 days quarantine. The U.S. requires a negative test to get home. You cannot test negative and fly before your 5 days finish (in Canada). If you test negative after 5 days, you can fly subject to your airline rules (more later). If you test positive, you have to do ANOTHER 5 day quarantine. After 10 days, you can get a Letter of Recovery and fly back to the U.S. even if you are testing positive. For airline rules: Delta for example will NOT let you fly for 12 days after a positive test no matter how many times you test negative. Their rules. So check with your airline about the "what if's".
  13. If everyone had common sense to comply, we could all do a lot more. The mask refusal camp is going to drag this out soooo much longer. Mask up indoors folks, it would egg is either proper masks.
  14. Customer engagement tells us they provide $250 a day hotel and $100 per person per day for food for 5 days per Canada regulations. They emailed a form for the member of our group who tested positive.
