  1. Ontario Traveler....

Angus got back to me and at first said that the cost was $65 / person.

I had mentioned in my original e-mail that it would be my 21 year old daughter with my wife and me.

I wrote back thanking Angus and saying that we would be looking forward to visiting them in January, but that I wanted to be sure that although they indicated they are a couples resort, my daughter would also be welcome.

Angus apologized and said that he/she had not picked it up in my e-mail about my daughter and had to rescind the day pass approval.

So, I guess I am going to Sandals. :)

  2. Hi Reed Princess....you have always been so helpful on these boards.

Would you have the e-mail address of the Rendevous Resort so I can find out if I can bring my 21 year old daughter with my wife and me for a Day Pass at the resort when we arrive in St. Lucia.

Otherwise, I will probably have to go with Sandles.

Thanks (only 9 days before I cruise!) :)

  3. I would agree if it is a short cruise you lose some nice weather, but for me, leaving from the NYC area for a 9 day or more cruise beats flying by a mile. Being that I live in Long Island, I am on the ship with a cocktail and lunch within two hours after I leave home....can't beat that!! :)

I will always pick a ship in the NYC area unless it is a repositioning long cruise.

  4. I asked this question awhile ago during the warm weather and there was uncertainty if the Breakaway outdoor pool was heated.

Another words, if I leave on Sunday in January, will I be able to swim Monday morning in the pool.

If anyone has been on the Breakaway during the cold weather recently, please let me know.

On my last cruise on the Jewel last January, a gentleman I met in the pool the third day said he was able to swim in the pool the first day at sea. I never realized the heated the pools.

    Thanks.

  5. They did it in September but i did not get involved- did not want to be in any pictures with some of the things that went on.

Maybe I am old and cranky lol!

Howard....I did it with a group of people we met from our Roll Call and had a blast. I must admit, I did participate and there were many ("unusual") photos of the event.

    And I was in it!! :D :D

It was the last night of the cruise and we all let loose thinking we would never see each other again. That being said, we still stay in touch with one of the couples.

It was so much fun....one of the most memorable moments in my cruising experiences.

As they say, you only live once!! :)

  6. I just looked over our Freestyle daily's from the Breakaway last week. I don't see any mention of the adult version of Quest being played in the evening. On Friday (day 6) they did do a Family version of Quest at noon in the Atrium.

Too bad that they do not have that anymore (adult scavenger hunt).....it was so much fun!!

I was on the Gem with the CD Sinead and he was a great doing the "Adult Scavenger Hunt.

    People went crazy!! :D :D

Perhaps without something like the Spinnaker Lounge on the Breakaway, it is not possible to do this type of scenario. Not sure what they have in place of the Spinnaker on the Breakaway.

  7. Could you please tell me what a SJ Suite is?

We were thinking of an Aft-Facing Balcony Suite because we usually take an Aft-Facing Balcony.

What is the difference between the two?

    Which would be least expensive?

Also, what is the sister ship to the Star....is it the Dawn?

I am trying to think of comparrsons.

    Thanks.

  8. On that particular cruise, it was the Panama Canal and the port side was definitely preferable.

On a TA, heading west, the starboard may be better for sun exposure...although in an aft cabin, that may not matter much.

I believe I will be heading east on the TA, so I would probably get the sun in the morning if I take an Aft-Facing suite (which I might take) on the starboard side....correct?

  9. I have sailed in both and aft suite and an aft balcony. We had the suite on deck 9 on the far port side and loved it for it's wrap around balcony.

Both rooms were in very good shape.

VAT is Value Added Tax. Sales tax in Europe.

Does it make a difference whether you choose the port or starboard side?

Did you pick the port side for a reason?

    Thanks.

  10. Thanks so much to all of you for your answers to my questions.

I am leaning towards the Star based on all the coments.

Has anyone ever had an Aft-Facing Balcony or an Aft Facing Suite on the Star?

Also, I thought I saw somewhere that the Star was being refurbished in 2015. Does anyone have knowledge of that and if so, when it would take place?

Thanks again....still looking for your opinions if anyone else would like to comment.

PS: Please tell me what is "VAT?"

  11. My wife and I are planning on celebrating our 45th Anniversary with a Trnsatlantic Cruise Vacation in April 2015.

The two NCL ships are the Star of the Epic.

The choices I have to make is to leave from Miami (both cruises) to Europe in April 2015:

Epic: 11 day Transatlantic cruise stopping only at Funchal Madiera and disembarking in Barcelona (then flying on to Paris)

    or

Star: 14 Day Transatlantic cruise stopping at Azores, London, Amsterdam and disembarking in Copenhagen (then flying to Paris)

    Both are close in price.

The Epic is probably the better ship, but the Star's itinerary is better.

    My concerns are:

Is the Star still a nice ship even thought it is much older than the Epic (and because of the many days at sea, is this a major factor?)

Are the air fares much higher flying from Copenhagen to Paris than Barcelona to Paris (or basically the same)?

Also, I would also stay overnight in either Barcelona or Copenhagen (depending which ship I chose). Is Barcelona nicer than Copenhagen or are both interesting cities to see?

Also, we have never been to Europe.

We are staying 6 days in Paris since that is my DW's "dream" and flying back to NY from there.

    Which would you choose?

  12. We went to the Marriott - St. Kitts while on our cruise in September -- Price was $35.00 per day per person -- there was no tax - It was $70.00 for my husband and myself -- there were plenty of loungers by the beach (which I loved) - It was not the Caribbean blue water, more like a grey, (it is the Atlantic) but it was warm and clear -- my husband loved snorkling by the reef - saw a turtle and a barricuda among other things -- Sand was super hot - (I would bring water shoes). Spent the afternoon IN the pool - pretty big and not crowded. There were plenty of chairs -- Beach had an outdoor shower and rest rooms were not far from the pool -- Drinks at the pool bar were 7.00 for Capt Morgan and 9.00 for Painkillers, the Caribe beer was $4.50 (I am looking at the reciept.) They do add a 12.5% service charge - The hotel is huge - the property expansive -- We did not eat here, but there is a restaurant between the pool and the beach.

It was about 10 minutes from the ship -- Our cab driver came back to get us at 3:30 and we still had plenty of time to shop.

The day pass does NOT include beach towels so make sure you bring some from the ship.

I would not hestitate to go here again - Had a great day!!!

So basically, for $35 / person, you get entrance to the Marriott and the use of the facilities (pools, lounges, but no towels...correct?)

There is no drink or food included....just a nice place to hang out for the day. :)
