  1. That’s US$5 for the day! Very cheap and ideal for looking around the city…you can stop off at different parts of city and then get back on! Don’t feel afraid …..Not many older Japanese speak English but if you have a map they are only to happy to help you and point you in the right direction! Always remember to say thank you in Japanese!
  2. Sorry…it’s not a free city loop bus in Kobe….it costs 700 Yen for the day!
  3. Hi Ken…your excursions all sound wonderful! We visited the Buddhist Temple by the Sea in Busan and loved it all…there are lots of stairs since it’s quite hilly and rocky but just take your time! Lovely views out over the ocean! As I was saying if you don’t want to travel into Osaka or Kyoto from Kobe and just want to spend the day in this port….there is a free HOHO Bus around the city Center….again this is a hilly port! Take the free shuttle from a stop near the shopping mall…shuttle from the ship stops right near the mall! Walk down the road and then turn first right and the bus stop is right there! Free HOHO runs every half hour and takes you around the city but the best stop is at the Herb Garden! You take the RopeWay…chairlift….to the top of the hill and then a leisurely walk back down through beautiful gardens all lovingly attended by Japanese ladies who do all this work for free…simply because they love gardening! There are cafes and hot houses on the way down that you can pop into and look at arts and crafts of the area! This is what it was like when we were there in 2018…I hope it’s still the same! I shall post the details of this little tour later on! There is also a beautiful enclosed Japanese Garden that you can visit not far from the entrance to the Gardens and again I shall let you know where! Hope all this helps Ken! Cheers Annette

  5. Kyoto is a few hours drive from Osaka so it will be a long day for you! If I remember rightly you only ever go on the Cruise Excursions…is that right?Theres a lot of walking in Kyoto ! Are you just staying in Kobe for one of those days?If so there is a free HOHO Bus in Kobe and you must get off at the Herb Gardens and take the Ropeway….Chairlift….to the top and then walk down through all the gardens….a sight to behold with little cafes and hot houses on the way down!
  6. Hi Ken….Annette from Brisbane here….I followed your cruise on NCL Jade from Athens to Cape Town so am looking forward to following your Japan Cruise! We did a similar cruise around Japan and to Busan in S Korea back in 2018! We had a week before the cruise in Osaka and Tokyo and then joined the cruise in Yokohama! We loved Japan soo much to see and fortunately we arrived in Aomori …the northern tip of Honshu….to see 1000 cherry blossom trees in bloom at Hirosaki….a sight to behold I can tell you! Enjoy your cruise….I know you will love Japan! There’s a lot to see in such a short time and remember that the castles and houses in Japan are made from wood…no stone or bricks are used! I hope you get to Kyoto to see the Red Crimson Gates ! ⛩️⛩️ Cheers Annette
  7. Yes …because we landed in South Africa and have been cleared by immigration we should have no worries getting off the ship fairly quickly….thank goodness! Our tour to the Wetlands begins at 9 am and meeting Tim Brown at that time! So should be a good day I’m hoping! Since we’ve already been to Aquila Game Reserve with two Game Drives near Cape Town…Botlierskop Game Reserve and Addo Elephant Park ….I wanted to see the Wetlands for a different experience! Hopefully we shall have seen lots of animals at the three other Game Reserves! Thanks for all the info Kirsten! Annette 😎😎🇦🇺
  8. Hi Ken….besides the Covid vaccinations….do we need to have any other vaccinations for these cruises? Cheers Annette and John
  9. Hi Kirsten…..we too are taking a private excursion to the St Lucia Wetlands with Tom Browns Tours….there will be 8 of us! Are we able to get off the ship fairly quickly if not on an NCL excursion? We’re meeting him outside the terminal so I’m hoping we shall get there quite quickly…are the Wetlands a long drive from the terminal ? Did you see lots of Hippos and BirdLife? Did you have lunch at the Boat Club overlooking the Estuary? I’m hoping for a Wonderful experience! Can you reply to me on Annettejolliffe@hotmaildotcom please! Replacing the dot with a full stop of course! Cheers Annette and John Australia
  10. Hello Ken…yes we’re doing all the excursions that you’ve mentioned Ken but all Private shore excursions with a nice bunch of people…Americans…Canadians….British and of course us Australians! I always like to meet many nationalities when cruising…it makes for lively conversations about travel! We’ve booked the Addo Elephant Park…St Lucia Wetland to see hippos in the estuaries and Tortoises in Mahe on the Seychelles….a cruise in a Felucca on the Nile and staying at the Steigenberger Hotel at Luxor overlooking the Nile…swimming in the Indian Ocean on the island of Praslin…..seeing the Lemurs on Nosy Komba…..all of these are private! We shall of course be visiting Aquila Game Reserve near Cape Town for 2 game drives…afternoon and early morning included in our accommodation cost! Nothing has been spared on this cruise….a once in a lifetime experience for us! I think this is the same for everyone who have decided to cruise with us all! I shall try to post photos but we shall not have wifi on board the Jade…way too expensive for us Aussies! In fact I think wifi should be included in the fare….all hotels have it now and the ship is virtually a floating resort! Once again thanks for sharing your Adventures! Cheers Annette and John
  11. Hello Ken….Thanks for all your wonderful photos and explanations about these two cruises! I now know what to expect when we arrive at these various ports since we’re cruising on the Jade from Cape Town 26 Jan and ending in Athens on 3 March…..the other way round! I look forward to all these amazing places and something we’ve been looking forward to for two years! Now we can cross Africa off our Bucket List! Safe Travels and Happy Cruising! By the way I never knew these live Cruise Reports existed until I found you…I love the idea! Happy Holidays and a Happy and Healthy New Year to you both! Cheers from John and Annette in Brisbane…Australia
  12. Was this at the Botlierskop Game Reserve ….Ken? Looks amazing! How many people in the Jeep? You got to see soo many animals on this one Game Reserve…we’ll worth the experience! 😎😎🇦🇺🇦🇺
  13. Hello Ken from Australia! Your photos and information about the tours has been wonderful and very informative…thanks! Use wondering if you’ve met many people who’ve done private shore excursions in all your ports? Probably not many on this cruise….we have mostly private ones now since the travel industry has opened up more for 2023! I sincerely hope that the CD will have more talks on all our ports when we cruise in January 2023….it makes the cruise much more interesting for us all! Did he have a slide show too? on another note and I’m not sure if the question has been asked before….do you know if you’ve had many cases of Covid on board? Is there a quarantine period within your cabin for 5 days? I wouldn’t like that since this cruise is fairly port intensive and I don’t want to miss out on any port! Let me know please to annettejolliffeathotmaildotcom…..putting in the symbols of course! Cheers for now Annette …Keep on enjoying all your cruises of the future and looking forward to more reports!
