  1. From what I have read it has made 0 difference on Princess ships.

I would not get your hopes up. :(

"WiFi@Sea is currently on about 10 vessels of Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America Line and Princess Cruises that operate from southern California and in the Caribbean."

"The system will be on Regal Princess starting this week for its Caribbean debut—which right off the bat should boost media coverage and social media communication of the ship's naming by the original 'Love Boat' cast."

    provided in the second link.

Hopefully they'll have everything tweaked in the next year and a half.

  2. Now that I'm home I can post what I've found.

"Following the initial launch in North America in fourth quarter of this year for ships sailing in the Caribbean – the world's most popular region for cruising – Carnival Corporation is scheduled to rollout the technology globally. Under the current plan, the expansion will continue with Alaska in summer of 2015 and will extend to the Mediterranean, Baltic, Western European and Asian regions in 2015 and 2016. The technology will eventually be available on all nine of the company's leading global brands – AIDA Cruises, Carnival Cruise Lines, Costa Cruises, Cunard, Holland America Line, P&O Cruises UK, P&O Cruises Australia, Princess Cruises and Seabourn."

"Carnival Corp. & plc has forged an innovative hybrid wireless network that can speed Internet connectivity 10 times above current levels. Now available on about 10 vessels, the technology will be rolled out to all 101 ships across Carnival's nine brands in a hefty $10m investment."

I realize the OP didn't state which year the cruise was, I'm pretty sure it is 2017. :):):)

  3. Star Princess should be fitted with high speed internet service by the end of 2016. I have used something similar on RC and its faster than my cable internet at home. Don't spend any money on internet packages until it's close to sailing.

  4. Hi TX, We're on the same cruise. I agree with others to have a solid plan in place as well as booking the most desired excursions as soon as possible. Buying Alaska travel books helped me decide in advance what I wanted to do and where the best place was to do it.

I found some of my excursions involving flights were adjusted for weather and caused me to cancel other excursions booked for the same day. So, have a plan B.

Come on over to the roll call for this sailing, we'll talk more!

  5. Found on search engine. Using these words...difference between Princess Denali Explorer and On your own

star2.bmpPrincess Cruisetours: On Your Own tours provide travelers with only accommodations and transportation. Denali Explorer tours feature up to four nights in Denali, among other destinations. Off the Beaten Path tours include visits to more unusual locales in addition to Denali, and Connoisseur tours have the support of tour directors, planned activities and most meals included.

    Hope that helps.

  6. Such helpful information, Thank You so much. I'm looking at a possible Princess cruisetour for 2017 (did it quite a few years ago, without the Kenai stop). Promised my travel mate I'd find a horseback ride along the way.

Although 2017 is quite a ways off, and no schedule has come out yet, it's great to know there might be a possibility. Hoping for a Fairbanks, Denali, Mt. McKinley(name change, I know), and Kenai land tour before cruise with Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan ports.

Again, thanks so much for the help! I'll contact the possible Horseback riding tours as time gets closer.

Any more information about anything and everything is encouraged and appreciated!

  7. Wow folks no need to get in arguments. Just posting my story to hopefully help someone else along the way and to encourage folks to be careful with what info you share or how you share it. You never know what other people are going through.

RC says the person on the phone that cancelled the cruise the night before sailing claimed to be me. But that's pretty much it. They didn't have to put us back on or do anything. But they did and they have been great about everything. This could happen to anyone - email hacking, angry ex, sharing passwords, or trip info.

We weren't out anything but a huge headache and obc. Just wanted to recognize RC staff going above and beyond and help others.

Thanks for everyone's feedback! Have a great Thanksgiving.

Your willingness to share this with others is deserving of a Happy Thanksgiving. Thank you for this information. It is priceless.

  8. Has anyone recently had luck getting a cab fairly quickly?

Walked off with luggage last April from the Quantum. I had reserved a car service which required a phone call first saying I was off the ship. My phone service was less than desirable, and when I finally got through it was another hour before pick-up.

I prefer not to do the RC shuttle. I remember reading nightmare reviews of taxi service at the pier back then.

Are there any improvements in getting taxi's at disembarkation?

Does anyone have a suggestion on a car service that will accept an email stating I'm off the ship? Or, at least, be there at a specified time?

Docking at 6 a.m. on a Monday with an EWR flight five hours later.

  9. Just returned from a way too short sailing of the Anthem from Cape Liberty. A beautiful ship with lots of activities and dining options.

Let me know if I can answer any general questions.

    Hi, thanks for helping.

    1. Did you use the wowband?

    2. Did you have to purchase it?

    3. If you did use it, did it work everywhere?

    Thanks in advance.

  10. They're a waste of time really. They were great for opening the cabin door, but to pay for drinks you had take them off and it was just easier to hand over the card like before. You also had to use the card to embark/disembark at each port.

I agree. While on Quantum I had to take it off way too many times to pay for it. Half the time it wouldn't work and had to carry the card around anyway.

  11. Dinner reservations, once cancelled, should show a rebate on your credit card. I've done it with dinner and shore excursions many times. You should receive an email with a cancellation. Save it for any kind of future proof.

If time permits, cancel the paid dinner reservations first. Then cancel the cruise.

Either way you choose to go, you should absolutely get credit. If not, I would call. I can't see how you would not get your money back. And if for some weird reason you are not credited, you can always dispute it through your credit card company.

  12. Trying to find out where there is smoking areas for a cigarette smoker and a cigar smoker on this ship.

From what I have read by searching is there is a deck 5 smoking booth and an area in the casino. Are there other outside and inside locations designated?

This info is for a couple of friends of ours...thanks in advance! :)

From reading other reviews, I remember a couple of reports of a smoking area on the pool deck...near the kiddie pool, under the outdoor projection screen?

  13. Keep it quiet, then throw him a surprise on the ship.

Tell him he was picked by the Captain to enjoy a special Spa Massage or Romantic Dinner, etc.

Make him feel special with a favorite of his, whether he knows it's from you or not.

I'm hoping you'll report back on whatever you do. This is intriguing.

Good luck and have a wonderful time!
