  1. Good tips! Can’t wait, we board tomorrow!
  2. Walk out water falls with glacier view. I stand corrected!
  3. Does anyone know which nights will be formal nights on this itinerary? Trying to book Pinnacle for a non formal night.
  4. Taxi to Mendenhall Glacier, tour the visitor center and hike out to the glacier and falls. Taxi return, if it’s cleared up, take the tram up to the top. We enjoyed an Alaska beer up there with crabmeat nachos, there are also some hikes up there.
  5. It’s been a few years since we’ve cruised with Holland. Can someone please tell me what your formal, dress your best, gala, whatever they are called; nights looked like last year on an Alaskan itinerary. Many thanks!
  6. We are looking at booking this combined tour, transportation to Mendenhall… but we want to go at our own pace and don’t feel 90 minutes is long enough to hike to the falls and do the visitor center. At what point will they give us our tram ticket, we would like to call a cab at our own expense to get us from Mendenhall to the tram. Any foreseeable problems with this? Using our $100 excursion credit from HA, the excursion would cost us $9 plus cab fare, and we would be able to do it on our own timing.
  7. Holland America! They really do Alaska well, we’ve been on most lines.
  8. Thank you! I should have mentioned there may be up to nine of us, but we can combine taxicabs.
  9. What is the best way to get to and from Mendenhall from the Nieuw Amsterdam dock? I feel the cruise line does not allow us enough time there. What are our options? Ideally, we would like to do Mendenhall, get back to the port and go up the tram, maybe have a bite to eat and drink at the top, short hike and back to the boat.
  10. YES!!! I never wanted to, thought it was something I could do in my 70’s. Went with family 8 years ago, 4 years ago my husband and I grabbed a super cheap round trip out of Seattle that went to three different ports we had not visited the first cruise, and now we’re going again this June. I’d take it over Caribbean any day!

    Alaska

    June or July. Holland America.
  12. You can stay in Anchorage and book a MICA guide tour that includes transportation from Anchorage. It was hands down, the best excursion of our two trips to Alaska, the three hour glacier trek. I also believe there is a tour to Seward that includes transportation from Anchorage for the boat tour of Kenai Fjords. Haven’t done that one yet, but it’s on the schedule for June, precruise.
  13. Hi! I found this post while doing a search for fishing in Alaska. Can you recommend any fishing charters for Juneau, Ketchikan or Seward?
  14. We have 3 guys in our group that would like to do a fishing excursion while in Alaska. We are cruising the week of June 23, not sure what fish they are catching at that time, the guys are pretty open as far as kind of fish they are fishing for. They would like to do this in Seward before boarding, or in Juneau or Ketchikan, private or ship excursion. I can’t wait to hear your fishing stories! thank you!
  15. We went on the Wilderness excursion to Davidson Glacier, and loved it. I’ve since heard someone died on the excursion, but people have died on float plane excursions too. I’m sure the tour operators have really been evaluated for safety since.
  16. Couldn’t all agree on a fixed dining time.
  17. That’s so sad! We loved this tour. We were in the canoe in very calm waters.
  18. Hi! We are a group of 7 adults, possibly 9. We have an 11pm red eye home from Vancouver on the day we disembark. Looking to fill the day, city tour, whatever… we will all have large pieces of luggage. Is there a tour that may last a little longer so we’re not sitting at the airport for 6 hours? thank you in advance 🙂
  19. Hi! We are a group of 9. We have not cruised Holland in a while. We have selected anytime dining, our reservations are linked. Which night would be the best to book a reservation in the Pinnacle? Trying to consider we think it’s important to dine in the main dining room the first night, also formal nights, port days, etc. Is there a way to pre book the 9 of us when we decide which night before boarding?
  20. We are a group of 8 adults looking to do a bike ride on the Tony Knowles tour. Is it worth getting a guide, or should we just do rentals? How long should we allow for this? thank you in advance!
  21. Personally I wouldn’t have 13 year olds sitting on a train excursion. I can highly recommend the Glacier Point Wilderness Safari. My second favorite Alaska excursion, very active and Davidson Glacier is amazing!!!
  22. This is our third cruise to Alaska… looking for maybe a private tour company for something different than all the cruise ship offerings. We are three active couples in our 60’s. Tell me what you did!
