  1. Juggie, from Juggie’s Place in St. Maartin, posted a photo on his Facebook page of Independence docked this am. First cruise ship in months, either disembarking employees, or re-stocking?
  2. Our cruise on Independence is the same right now. We already have 2 earlier cruises where we are getting 40% off invested. Tough call, but we are going to wait on this one and take a chance it will come back as things stabilize more.
  3. I have a business associate that disembarked the Independence of the Seas in Ft Lauderdale today from an annual rock band charter and was going on the MSC Armonia out of Miami. As I understand, the Independence of the Seas was denied entry into Grand Cayman earlier in the week due to an unspecified medical emergency evacuation. A crew member, who was NOT speaking for the cruiseline and may not have been informed, told my business associate's wife that it was a confirmed case of CV, (or "suspected" CV- "suspected" are my words). After stating on the MSC questionnaire that he had been on the Independence OTS and that there may have been a case of CV, my business associate was just denied boarding on the MSC Armonia. Others on the same itineraries stated "no" on the questionnaire and were allowed to board. I believe that denial of boarding was a precautionary step on behalf of MSC, but it was VERY disheartening for my business associate and his wife because his birthday is tomorrow. He does not fault MSC, but believes it was a VERY unfortunate turn of luck on his part. Does anyone have any news on medical evacuation in Grand Cayman and why the Independence OTS was denied entry?? Was it something we should be concerned about?
  4. Hello everyone and welcome to another "live" Review. This Review is going to a very "fun" one because of this little backstory. So I was one day looking around on RCI webpage and I wanted to do a quick cruise over the weekend and I happen to find a ok deal on Indy for a four night weekend cruise to the Caribbean. Well in that time I desired to hold off on booking this cruise until my cruise in harmony in September. Well when I was one the ship the price went down about $1,000 USD Dollars for a grand suite. So I said to my self. Why not go ahead and splurge on a grand suite. So I did. Here is a mini break down on some thing about this trip. Itinerary This 4-night cruise will bring us to one port of call and it will be the lovely port of Cozumel Mexico. As of right now I have no plans to do any thing in that port. however that may change over time. Cabin In This cruise I am Trying out a Grand Suite on Deck 10. This Is one the closets Grand Suite to the Aft which was able at the time of booking. But the Flowrider snob is slightly out of his comfort zone as this cabin is very close to the forward of the ship. Some Pre-Cruise thoughts I am beyond excited to sail Independence the of the Seas. After this cruise I will only need to do Liberty to make the goal of sailing on every freedom class ship! Folks please do not hesitate to ask any questions. I will try to find out what I can for you. Also Please keep in mind when Quoting a post with a series of pictures, please do not include Every pictures in your reply that . One or two will be fine. It just makes for easier scrolling. Thank You With That Said Let Review The Begin!!

  6. I’m looking ahead to 2022 and researching cruises for me, my husband and my son that will be 11 then. We are looking to go away in February. Because we will be pulling our son out of school we are looking at a shorter cruise so we can also have a day or two in Florida pre cruise. What are people’s opinion on a 4 night on independence or a 5 night or Mariner?
  7. Hello everyone! My name is Amanda and I will be travelling with my husband on Independence of the Seas out of Ft Lauderdale! We will be flying down from Cleveland, Ohio on Friday. In the next week before we leave I will share some of our plans for during the vacay, then reviewing as it happens! This first picture shows where we got engaged on Brilliance of the Seas back in 2015. We were back on her again in Jan of 2019 and took this pic! This will be our fifth cruise on Royal, first time on Freedom Class. We are slowly working our way up to the bigger ships. We've been on Brilliance twice, Enchantment, and Adventure previously. Come along for my 40th birthday celebration!!
  8. We're on Independence right now, and were late (about half an hour) leaving Nassau. They made some sort of announcement, but we couldn't here it. We saw an ambulance, and somebody being taken away on it. Does anyone know what's happening?
  9. So for about the same price I am looking at. Independence - 5 Night with CocoCay, Cruising, Labadee, Cruising Mariner - 4 Night with CocoCay, Nassau, CocoCay I did CocoCay last summer and loved it. Is it worth going to Labadee and having the extra night. How do the ships compare? On Harmony we loved Jamie's, but on Independence they have Giovanni's.
  10. I prefer to make my coffee as a double espresso with a cappuccino added from the DL or CL machine. The coffee at Seattle's best next to Promenade cafe on Independence was not very nice. I don't mind paying for a Starbucks coffee on Harmony.
  11. I'm torn between the Brilliance, which does a 4 night out of Tampa, and a 5 night on the Independence. We live in NY, so plan to fly in the day before. Therefore, the 4 night actually works better as we don't want to be gone too long from the kids. But the Brillance looks kind of old and boring. I looked at pictures on cruise critic and the ship seems very dated. The Independence looks much more updated with cool features like the ice show, laser tag, and cantilevered hot tubs. My husband and I are looking for a short cruise in January while my in-laws watch our 2 year old twins. We have about 10 cruises under our belt. We have mainly cruised celebrity and love the S-class ships, but have done rccl (Serenade of the seas), princess (Grand), NCL (Breakway), and Carnival (Valor). We are looking to try something new! I tend to be disappointed with older ships (Grand Princess two years ago was a little disappointing). I love a special feature on a ship, such as the lawn on the celebrity ships, or the dueling pianos and improv club on NCL. Specialty restaurants are not important to us, as we typically find the included food to be fine (except on NCL). Does Independence feel more updated? Is the Brillance really as old as it looks in the pictures? Any cruise is a good cruise, but I'm really torn about this decision. The Brillance cruise works better for us, I'm just worried that there seems to be nothing exciting about the ship and I will be disappointed. Sent from my SM-G930V using Forums mobile app
  12. Hi All, I haven't been on RCCL in a long time, since 2000 on Explorer of the Seas. Looking at a cheap Independence of the Seas cruise and had a few questions. I normally book inside, and or oceanview. What's the biggest bang for the buck. I'm seeing 160sqft rooms mostly, which is Tiny, I know Carnival has like 185-190. It's a big difference as NCL has the same 160sqft which I wasn't fond of, especially with no window. Any suggestions? Has anyone been on this ship recently? How are the activities for an 8 year old active boy? He loves ropes courses, mini golf, water slides. In regards to Cococay, I see there is a small little water park area. Are the lines insane with 3000-4000 people? Any tips are appreciated. Thanks,
  13. I apologize for asking questions that probably have been answered but I have not figured out how to do a search, I used to be able to type in my questions and I would have plenty of answers, now I seem to get a bunch of threads not relevant. We will be sailing on the independence out of Fort Lauderdale and would like to know how the boarding is handled. We are a group of 24, ages 11 to 79, only 2 have cruised Royal before, in case that makes a difference. We like to board early, and our hotel shuttles start at 9, will we be able to board that early? Do they tell you a time to board as opposed to whenever you show up? What is the check in like - inside/outside? Chairs? Any info/suggestions you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  14. Does anyone have a review or pics of this room?
  15. Hey All, Any tips on Balcony room location or floor, CAT 2D. Looks like I can choose 6, 7, 8. Haven't sailed on RCCL in 19 years. Thanks,
  16. Tried to search but didn't find much on this. My family and I are staying in the Royal Suite in May and I was looking for people's experiences on this room. We have been in suites on Oasis Class ships and know there are different perks then other ships. What interests me is being escorted on the ship. Do they take us from the waiting area of the terminal just take to the gangway or directly to our room or dining venue (we will be arriving at the terminal around 10:30)? There is no free wifi correct? (Kind of a bummer and don't understand why). Did you feel like you got even more personalized attention then the other suites would get? Also, is there any activities that are in the room for young kids? My daughters are 4 and 5; thinking of like coloring books, jigsaw puzzles or cards. If not, can we ask for stuff like that. Finally, the suite seating for the Windjammer is in the specialty restaurants, but can you still use the buffet or only the table served menu for the restaurant and is it for breakfast and lunch or only breakfast. Thank you in advance for all you help.
  17. This may just be wishful thinking/daydreaming but I am thinking about a 3 night solo cruise and I am deciding between Independence, Navigator, or Mariner. Same itinerary, flights cost about the same, price difference on the cruise is negligible, so the only real difference is the ship. I am sort of ruling out Mariner because it is farther from the airport but if it is somehow overwhelmingly a better choice... I will consider it. I probably won't leave the ship in Nassau but will explore Coco Cay. Anyone care to weigh in? Or should I pin pictures of the ships to the dart board and let the darts decide? #firstworldproblems #haventseenthesunindays #socoldhere
  18. In that case maybe go with the Independence and spend an extra day in Florida?
  19. I haven’t made up my mind on what type of cabin. But it will probably be a balcony cabin. Although I noticed it is letting me pick a family promenade view on independence, which would be great for the space. We have been in a family ocean view on Brilliance and we were amazed at the space. The kids love the bunk area.
  20. Good Morning, I read the review about the unlimited dining package experience on the harmony, which was very helpful. I am booked on the independence, and the email I received from the concierge stated that Izumi hibachi was not included, (only 35.00 credit for sushi/ala carte). This of course contradicts what I have read in other reviews. Of course there is no great verbiage from royal as it relates to what is or is not included, and it is no shock that different ships are doing different things. So my question is... Has anyone recently sailed on the Indy with the unlimited dining package, and what was your experience? thanks in advance.
  21. Is it me or does the Anthem of the seas pool deck seem smaller than Independence of the seas?
  22. I agree with these posts but it sounds like they don’t coincide with the OP’s plans. Plus there are still plenty of things to do on both Mariner and Independence.
  23. We did a three night cruise on Mariner a little over a year ago. She is a great ship and has lots of great stuff for kids. I haven't been on Independence but Freedom class and Voyageur class are very similar in layout.
  24. Both are great. Similar ships. Independence has a separate kids pool and slide/ splash area (although he is probably too old for it). Both have Sky Pad, waterslides, laser tag that he'll love. I also liked the shows better on Indy with Grease and Once Upon a Time but that's a personal preference. Having said that if Mariner is doing a 5 nighter, then the additional day is a plus factor.
