  1. Hi were going on Independence of the seas on next Friday were hoping it the weather is nice to use the pool before we sail can we get pool towels added May not have access to our cabins when we first get on? Only sailed with P.O. Before and towels were in cabins do we have pool towels in cabins on RC?, Thanks
  2. Can anyone tell me if they have flavoured gins, violet, bitter orange etc in any of the bars on Independence OTS Thanks in advance.
  3. Sailing on independence this weekend. I can’t stand formal things; dress shoes make up tights blah blah. I have two kids who are also unbothered. I just read a thread on here commenting that people who sail out of Southampton really go for it on formal nights eg tuxedos. my question is, does everyone dress up? What sort of % don’t? If it’s 50/50 then it doesn’t bother me to stay in my trousers and tops combos in the windjammer as I don’t do the restaurants anyway....but if I’m going to be the only one looking dressed up I may have to pack a dress! Can i I have the benefit of your experiences on this ship out of Southampton pls?
  4. We used Blackberry several times in May/June when we boarded the Independence of the Seas. Shuttle from Heathrow to Holiday Inn Express Mayfair, Holiday inn to Southampton, Southhampton to Heathrow and we were very happy.. The cars were in mint condition and the drivers were very professional and friendly.
  5. We are from the United States and love to dress up because in Colorado it is very relaxed. We've noticed a steady decline through the years of people dressing very casual on formal nights (aka dress your best). I was elated in May when I sailed on the Independence and all the Brits, Irish, Australians and Scotts dressed very nice. I did not feel over dressed at all and was happy I was surrounded by those who like to do the same. Can't wait until our next cruise abroad.
  6. We're back! Our cruise was 4/29-5/4. It was hubby and I plus our 4 kids (15, 12, 7, 3). I'll try to keep this short and sweet. 😉 Check in was fairly easy. Our stateroom wasn't what we expected. We originally were going to book 2 connecting oceanviews, but went with the advice of costumer service and got a room that should fit all 6 of us! It was category 1k, suppose to be 351sqft. It was decent but smaller than expected and having 2 bathrooms would've been better. Beds were super hard, and no fan for white noise. 😕 The view out the front of the ship was amazing though! Food was ok, desserts were awesome. Windjammer is crowded at times but there's plenty of seating. Only complaint is buffet isn't open late enough. Activities were unfortunately lacking. They had more activities offered during port days which made no sense obviously. Then there would be things going on during the times the kids rooms were closed. Adult shows were often after 10pm, when you would get charged for using the kids rooms (which we didn't do). The last night, there was a farewell comedian in the Royal Theater at 7:15. He was done a little before 8pm. We took our 2 older kids to our room to get their bathing suits on, they went to the pool. Hubby and I went right back down to the Star lounge for an adult show (finally something we could go to). Well, we get there and there's no seats and people were standing! They know this is a popular show, why not have it in the theater?? So we left. 😞 Excursions....in Costa Maya we did the Chacchoben ruins, booked through Native Choice. We really liked it! However, I wouldn't recommend for kids under 10. They just don't care, lol. One of our tour guides were awesome...he kept an eye on our little one so hubby and I could somewhat pay attention to our other guide. Highly recommend them. In Cozumel, we took the ferry to Playa del Carmen and went to Xcaret. The ferry wasn't bad, 45mins and then a bus ride which was maybe 10-15mins. Xcaret was nice, but again wouldn't recommend with young ones if you plan on doing the river. Our 7 year old did good but our 3 year old, no. We didn't know until just before hopping in the "cold" water while signing the waiver that you can't touch bottom. So we had to not only swim, but take turns swimming while holding a 3 year old. Fun! And, there's bats in the caves!! I'm glad we experienced it, but wouldn't do again. The rest of the park was nice and well taken care of. Took the advice of the tour guide on where to eat, he even walked us there, and he must've known the owner because we ended up spending $100. But unfortunately couldn't find menus with prices before our trip, so oh well. All in all it was a great trip! Would I do RC again, not sure. The ship was just too big and confusing. Sorry to say, but Carnival are called the fun ships for a reason. 😉 However, the Independence is a beautiful ship, I just would prefer a smaller ship. P.S. We got to see the Carnival Fantasy again! Sailed on her 5 years ago. Was docked right next to us, it was cool.
  7. Depending where you sail from. We had VAT added to shop purchases when sailing from Southampton on Independence.

  9. My adult daughter and I just got off a cruise on the Independence. First of all, I paid more for this 5 day cruise than some 7 day ones. Embarkation was slower than slow. Im Diamond plus and and was shown no consideration. They corral you into a seating area and we waited 1.5 hours to board. On boarding, the first thing I noticed was dirty rugs and scuffed floors. Not a good first impression. We found a seat on deck to sun in at 8:00 am and went to eat for approximately 15 minutes. When we returned, pool staffed had placed s chain with a sign saying, reserved for suite guests. Well, the sign was not there when we first came but they proceeded to throw us out ( Im Diamond plus remember). At this point the deck was crowded. So much for the no reserving seats rule. Let me see, this was my 40th cruise. Im sure Ive spent as much as suite guests. If you’re going to have a rule, it should apply to everyone. Staff was great. The food was ok, not exceptional. The drinks are getting way too expensive. But I think they do this to push you towards purchasing a package. Plus, the drinks seemed watered down. Looks like I need to reconsider where my loyalty lies.

  12. Hi all! Planning our first family cruise and we booked cabin 1100, one of the new rooms from what I’ve gathered. It appears that this single cabin exists only on the independence, but I could be wrong. Has anyone stayed in this 1L Panoramic Ocean View room? The pictures I’ve seen online are definitely incorrect and the representative at Royal Caribbean said the room is larger than the 175 feet listed but she had no idea the actual size. We sail in December so I’ll be sure to take pictures to share!
  13. Hi Royal Caribbean Experts, We will be on Independence of the Seas this summer and want to know what the bathroom amentities will be. Are the shampoo/conditioner/bath gel "on the shower wall"? Are there other products other than possibly soap provided? Thanks for all your assistance.
  14. We just did this in July. If you are coming in just the day before, I would suggest staying in Southampton. We stayed at the Holiday Inn, which is just a short walk to the port. We used National Express Bus service to Southampton, and pre-booked it online. They run every 2 hours from the airport, and they are probably the least expensive way to get there. It is about a 2.5 hour drive, depending on traffic. We used International Friends for our post-cruise transfer to London. If you want to read about our experiences, I did a live review. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2678896-live-independence-italian-med-713-727-european-vacation/ Enjoy your trip on Indy
  15. Sailing on independence this weekend. Looks like you can’t book Grease or the ice skating shows ; or can you? If not, how much of a scramble is it? How early would I need to turn up to get four adjacent seats? thank you for your time and help!
  16. Playmakers on Independence is on deck 4, not on the Promenade. At least on Indy it's a large place, no where something like that would fit on the Promenade.
  17. We dress smart every night and on Formal nights probably 75% of men wear suits or Tux out of Southampton. We have sailed several times on Independence from Southampton most recently end of May. Personally on RCCL I now leave a Jacket at home and wear a long sleeve shirt and tie with cufflinks and dress trousers with smart shoes. Hope you have a great cruise.
  18. And have you sailed on the Independence out of Southampton recently?

  20. Hi Travelling with a friend on independence out of Southampton this week. Next door rooms but separate booking references as two different rooms. Question - we both want voom on two devices each ie four devices total. It it is cheaper for me to book voom for one adult four devices at 18.23 Gbp. But the royal Caribbean system when I’m trying to add that to cart is only showing an option for me and my child (sharing my room) to use that voom. Is is it a code they give out? If so will it only work if the device is in my room , does it somehow know my friend next door is using my code? Or doesn’t it matter? thanks!
  21. The deluxe drink package has now dropped from £47 to £38....big saving.
  22. Our last TA on Independence from Southampton was a 180 degree shift from sailing in the Caribbean. I would guess 75% were dressed in a Tux or Suit, also saw more Kilts then any time in the past. Last sailing in the Caribbean there were shorts and T'S in the dining room on formal night. Kudos to Brits that get dressed for the occasion.
  23. Hi everyone, Can anyone confirm, is there a sauna and steam room free of charge? If so where is this on the ship? Thanks in advance.
  24. While I do try to give myself a lil wiggle room since I’m on vacation, I try to drink Captain & Coke Zero. They had Coke Zero on my last 2 cruises on Independence. I hope they have it on Adventure in October.
  25. Does anyone have a recent cruise compass for a 5 day cruise that they can post...also what night is lobster night on a 5 night cruise on Independence..thanks
