  1. Thanks. When DH and I were on Independence a year ago Dec, we had to book a session in the cruise planner, so I wasn't sure if Mariner had done the same since we were on it two years ago. Good point though...with this covid stuff, they may change it to reservations only to control the crowds.
  2. Can I lift & shift a 6 night Western on Independence to a 6 night Western on Odyssey? We are in a JS on Independence (was booked as a Guarantee but cabin already assigned). Seems like it would be a big 'upgrade' getting a JS on a Quantum class ship. Not sure if we want to lift & shift yet will probably leave a bit closer to August and re-assess then, but just curious if we can! Have it booked as a S2S with Western Oasis in January so would need to move that to an Eastern Oasis in 2022 to make the dates work, but from what I've already read that would be fine. Thanks
  3. Good Morning everyone, I have my first Royal cruise booked for September of this year on Independence of the Seas. A few weeks ago I saw the Deluxe Beverage Package was $45 a day. I stupidly didn't jump on it then and now it's $65 a day. If I book now and then the price drops, can I call and rebook with the new price or am I locked in? Also, does anyone have experience with The Key on Independence? Seems pretty interesting especially since I was planning to get Voom anyways. If anyone has any tips or tricks, drink recommendations, etc for Independence or what you wished you would have known for your first Royal cruise, I'd love to hear that as well. I feel like I'm really going to like Royal and have my eye on a few cruises next year too. Thanks!
  4. Hi, I tried to search but can’t find my answer. On the independence of the seas if rooms are adjoining can the divider between the balconies be opened? Specially cabins 7408 and 7410. Thanks in advance for your help.
  5. our first 3 cruises we stayed in normal cabins. then we took a 5 day thanksgiving cruise on the independence of the seas ans we had s grand suite. then when we went on the harmony of the seas we stayed in an owners suite. as we moved to different type of cabins we increased our tipping. in 2021 we are going on the symphony of the seas, we are taking a long time friend of my wife, so we went big, we booked a 2 bedroom aqua suite, so our tipping will be way more then “normal”.
  6. Have not received a refund yet but did call today to inquire. I had refundable deposits on a b2b this summer but I cancelled on March 23, a week before final payment due. I phoned today and did talk with someone fairly quickly. They said that my refund was processed on April 11 but was rejected by my Bank. The refund was now "Stuck". She put me on hold and I was told that the supervisor was going to process the refund right away. I assume they gave the XT personal computer that RCL accounting systems run on a kick or took out the floppy disk and reinserted it ! More concerned about a credit we received last year because of the Independence being moved from Europe to Florida. Initial expiry was July 31st this year for it to be used. We used on our cancelled trips this summer. The credit is still valid but we have to sail by Dec. 31st this year. I think its unlikely we will cruise again this year (wife is a teacher) as summer is best time.
  7. We have done a Oasis sailing in the Caribbean and would guess 15% are formal with another 60% of adults dressed nicely. Kids are hit and miss. Totally different in the Med or on a Oasis class TA. Lots of formal wear from Europeans as well as a dozen or more in Kilts. Westbound TA on Allure, Symphony and Independence had a lot of formal dress, Eastbound TA on Oasis very different, same as a Caribbean cruise. One big difference on a Oasis Class TA is they sail with many more older adults and sail with 1500 or so fewer kids.
  8. Hi All- I was a GTY Junior Suite on the Independence of Seas and today was assigned #1102. I believe this is a new room, so I haven't found much information on it. Has anyone had any insight or stayed in the new section of Deck 11?

  10. True, they even redeployed Independence from Europe just to serve CocoCay due to the increased demand
  11. I think I may have misunderstood the CWC policy and made an error. I always book refundable deposits, but only non refundable was available for a sailing on the Mariner on August 17. I thought I had nothing to lose, so I booked this for only nine days after we would return from the August 3 Independence IF it sails. I would hate to miss the Indy (in part because it was comped), but in the event that the next cancellation date is after August 3 but before August 17, we would still have a cruise. If the Indy sails, I intended to move the deposit from the Mariner to a 2021 cruise. Now, rereading the CWC policy, it looks like I would have to move that deposit before final payment date of June 3. Is that correct? We have joked about being so desperate for a cruise that we would go on both cruises if the opportunity arose, but it looks like that would really be the best choice if I did misunderstand about non refundable deposits.
  12. We are new to RCL. Wondering about OV cabin fwd deck 7. Independence of the Sea cabin 7506 Does it have 2 OV windows? Any pictures to share? Pros/cons? Thanks!
  13. If I understand correctly, the work done on Mariner and Independence preceded the full "amplification" that has been inflicted on, e.g., Navigator that resulted in removal of the excellent fitness center and locker room facilities and replacement of these with a small, poorly designed fitness center (low ceilings, and other complaints I've read on CC) with no actual locker room facilities, let alone steam/sauna facilities. Explorer, like some of the sister ships, lost part of the fitness center and had the inside whirlpool removed in a reconfiguration, but the nice locker rooms with free steam/sauna facilities remained at that point.
  14. It's not clear whether Explorer will now get the full "amping" that would eliminate the original fitness center, or if it will only have less invasive maintenance and updating done. I believe Mariner still has sauna/steam facilities. Independence still has sauna/steam facilities according to recent reports. When I've looked at the post-amp deck plans for Freedom, there's still a large fitness center area. I'm haven't seen any reports of exactly what is there now.
  15. Personally, I can't wait. I'm booked on Harmony of the Seas in September, Scarlet Lady in October, and Independence in April 2021. https://www.travelweekly.com/Cruise-Travel/Richard-Fain-interview-coronavirus
  16. We had a 5 night Independence of the Seas this July out of FLL. Next year, Indy does only 3/4 night out of FLL. So, the only L&S that we could do was the Explorer 5 day out of Galveston. At least the FCC helps pay for our first TA in 2021!
  17. I'll be interested to see how they thin the herd. We were already bumped off a chartered Independence and took a price protected Allure in November that came with additional OBC. If they bump us again with price protection and OBC it would be a sweet deal.
  18. Does anyone know if Independence & Navigator still have their sauna/steam room? Recently (Feb) was on Voyager and it was removed. Thanks in advance for your reply.
  19. Hi I know none of the Oasis or quantum class have free steam/sauna. We were on Vision and Independence last year and both of those had it, Have also seen it on most of Voyager class, but as some of them are going in for 'amping' they are taking them out. I believe that Radiance class all have them still. Hope this helps.
  20. Does anyone else think that Royal Caribbean are reducing their involvement and preparing to stop sailing from the UK? It seems to me that their treatment of the UK markets in the last couple of years, points to them perhaps preferring to home their ships at the Mediterranean and Mainland European ports? They have reduced their usual 2 ships out of Southampton to 1 following the cancellation of the Independence on the pretence that the Anthem would cover the UK. Their “Lift and Shift” offer is almost unusable to the UK market and they won`t even let you pay a supplement to cover any extra days if you cannot find a “Comparable” cruise. IE a booked 10 Canaries Cruise for the identical cruise, but 11 days? I`m afraid their attitude to the UK market is appalling and to me it seems they are not concerned at all about UK cruisers. It would not surprise me in the least if any further "pausing " of this years schedule should be necessary beyond August, that it would result in them cancelling this year schedule from the UK altogether? I do hope not
  21. Independence wasn’t dumped.I got talking to an engineer onboard Indy last year and he said that she will be back in Southampton in 2022.It needs an engine overhaul and they couldn’t risk transatlantics until it is rectified.
  22. On Independence is there any type of water fountain in the locker room? Never sailed Royal and looking forward to some steam room time after working out (or to sweat out the hangover haha).
  23. I totally agree with you, We too really like to sail from Southampton for all the reasons you outlined. What i cannot understand is why they just "Dumped" the Independence of the Seas schedule without a second thought and then during this awful period we are in now, will not even be a little flexible when we pay premium rates. I asked to do a "L&S" from this years Canaries cruise on 17 October(10 nights) to the virtually same cruise next year(11 nights) and to pay any supplements necessary. No chance total inflexibility.
  24. Received notice this morning that our refund was posted Saturday for our Independence cruise that was scheduled for last week.
  25. ok so I am booked on 7 day Eastern/Perfect Day on Independence so I could switch to Symphony..if so I will get a steal!
