  1. Interesting to note that on the shore excursions the times were at least on my cruise in the afternoon. It makes me suspect that they are offering more to keep the numbers lower for social distancing. For example, there was a 3 hour Norman island snorkeling in Tortola that I had noticed last January was scheduled in the am at 830. Now there's one listed at 115pm. Same tour. Prices are at 25%. We shall see what will happen. Honestly I really detest cruise ship excursions but if they hsve to social distance with smaller groups, it may not be that bad. You give up your freedom of exploring on your own though and that independence is something that I enjoy.
  2. So....if Royal changes the ship on you (Independence instead of Brilliance), will they give us a chance to cancel with 125% FCC? If not, and I cancel, how long would I have a chance to use FCC? The cruise is June 19, 2021. I am not sure what date they use for the clock to start ticking. I would prefer to use credit in 2022 as we have something with Celebrity booked in Nov 21.
  3. Some news reports state Carnival will start with only 6 ships when sailing resumes (presumably in November if CDC permits) out of just a few ports. I was curious to know how many ships RCI has lined up for November with bookable fares. I found a total of 19 leaving out of multiple ports, namely: Navigator - leaving from Miami Explorer - Miami Empress - Miami Allure - Miami Symphony - Miami Oasis - Port Everglades Vision - P.E. Independence - P.E. Mariner - Port Canaveral Harmony - P.C. Brillance - Tampa Rhapsody - Tampa Majesty - New Orleans Liberty - Galveston Grandeur - Baltimore Adventure - Cape Liberty Anthem - Cape Liberty Enchantment - San Juan Freedom - San Juan These are just North American sailings not counting Asia and other parts of the world. Wonder how many of these November sailings will actually set sail. Majesty has the longest way to go from Greece where she is now to New Orleans for a November 7th sailing. Is RCI dreaming, or is there a chance for any of these? If you've booked for November are you still hopeful?
  4. I would like to see the Independence out of PC do a 5/5/4/8/6. Barbados, St.Lucia, ABC’s, Tortola, Grand Cayman, Antigua, Cozumel, Costa Maya, and Key West. One private island. No Nassau.
  5. 1) Independence of the Seas. 11/19/2020 2) Independence of the Seas. 11/26/2020 3) Odyssey of the Seas 04/30/2021 Don’t expect to be sailing on our B2B Thanksgiving week cruises on the Independence, however still hoping for a miracle. Also hoping our booking for the inaugural cruise of the Odyssey will not be postponed due to further delays at the shipyard. Originally we were booked on the April TA sailing on the Odyssey, however Royal cancelled that back in June.
  6. I miss it horribly. I know I'm lucky in that I got in that Transatlantic in March, and a 5-day on the Independence before it, but I've been home for six months now and the thing that bothers me most is that I've waited all these years to be retired and be able to go wherever I want, whenever I want. And now I can't. Cruising makes a great vacation option for the solo traveler. It's a much more social setting than a resort hotel. I have a group I was to have cruised with this fall (we met on a TA years ago) and we're all extremely disappointed that this stoppage is preventing us from seeing each other again. The last time we got together was October last year. Since many of the group are international, there is no way to visit each other, even if we wanted to. We've pushed our get together back a full year, when we hope to meet up in Rome to spend two cruises on the Odyssey. Another year is a long time to wait...
  7. Vision, Independence, and Brilliance are in St. Maarten.
  8. I need to correct this, Oasis moves up to Cape Liberty in late May through August then back to Port Everglades. I also think that some additional moves may happen as if they move Independence down to Miami, they will have 4 ships sailing out there.
  9. If they move Independence to POM, that means there will be no RCCL sailings departing Port Everglades next Summer. Never thought I'd see the day that there are no sailings departing from P.E. I hope SWA adds a lot of NS's to MIA next year.
  10. Summer 2021 Changes: announcing upcoming redeployments of six ships. ADVENTURE of the Seas, which was previously scheduled to sail from Copenhagen and Stockholm, will head for Barcelona to sail a mix of 4- and 5-night short Mediterranean itineraries to historic destinations like La Spezia and Rome, Italy; Ajaccio, Nice and Marseille, France; and Palma and Ibiza, Spain. Initially scheduled to sail from Miami, BRILLIANCE of the Seas will now homeport outside of Venice in Ravenna, Italy, offering 7-night roundtrip sailings that visit Greece, the Greek Isles and Croatia. JEWEL of the Seas, originally planned to homeport in Amsterdam and Barcelona, will now sail from Stockholm and Copenhagen on 7-night cruises calling on Northern Europe’s picturesque ports of Helsinki, Finland; Tallinn, Estonia; and Visby, Sweden. Originally set to sail from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., INDEPENDENCE of the Seas will make the neighboring city of Miami her home for the summer season. Sailing a combination of 6- and 8-night cruises to the Southern and Western Caribbean. VISION of the Seas¸ previously planned to sail from Barcelona, will sail from San Juan, Puerto Rico and offer 7-night Southern Caribbean itineraries to exotic destinations like Philipsburg, St. Maarten; Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis; St. Johns, Antigua; Castries, St. Lucia; and Bridgetown, Barbados. RHAPSODY of the Seas will move from the Mediterranean and further expand short Caribbean sailings with 4-, 5- and 7-night cruises from Tampa, Fla., visiting The Bahamas, Perfect Day at CocoCay and the Western Caribbean.
  11. Just happened to turn on the webcam in time to find Independence arriving in St. Maarten today, where it seems she has been a fair amount lately. The first few times I've seen the ship on the webcam I assumed it was just getting refueled or new provisions, but the frequency of the visits the last few weeks seems too much for either of those. Does anyone know why the ship is there so (relatively) much? And that brought up another question. With all these ships that are mostly just sailing or anchored except for occasional returns to port for food for fuel, are the captains going to get, for lack of a better word, out of practice with their docking maneuvers? Particularly in the more difficult ports, or those where conditions change frequently? Especially if it turns out that it's the better part of a year before a ship returns to its "usual" ports.
  12. 1. Odyssey of the Seas, March 2022 2. Oh man if this one doesn't sail, we've got bigger problems than cruising. 😉 3. We would absolutely be crushed to not sail this one. We had originally booked Oasis of the Seas for March 2020 (cancelled in Dec 2019 bc we couldn't find affordable airfare, but it would have been cancelled anyway due to COVID), then Independence of the Seas for August 2020 (as a re-do of our Oasis cruise, with our first-ever one bedroom suite ☹️, but we took the 125% FCC when this one was cancelled). Happy that we got a quick 4-day on the Mariner of the Seas in February 2020.
  13. 1. Vision 11/23/20 (pretty sure it will get cancelled, not sure we should go if it doesn’t) 2. Independence 3/21 (Maybe) 3. Summit 9/22/21 The cruise I really hated to see cancelled was our family cruise that was supposed to be on Harmony in June, 2020. Our three sons were bringing their families, one was flying from Australia. This was our first family cruise where everyone could come since 2011. I was really looking forward to it! Sherri🙂
  14. To the citizens of the United States of America from Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II In light of your immediate failure to financially manage yourselves and also in recent years your tendency to elect incompetent Presidents of the USA and therefore not able to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective immediately. (You should look up 'revocation' in the Oxford English Dictionary.) Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths, and territories (except Kansas, which she does not fancy). Your new Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, will appoint a Governor for America without the need for further elections. Congress and the Senate will be disbanded. A questionnaire may be circulated sometime next year to determine whether any of you noticed. To aid in the transition to a British Crown dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect: 1. The letter 'U' will be reinstated in words such as 'colour,' 'favour,' 'labour' and 'neighbour.' Likewise, you will learn to spell 'doughnut' without skipping half the letters, and the suffix '-ize' will be replaced by the suffix '-ise.' Generally, you will be expected to raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels. (look up vocabulary) 2. Using the same twenty-seven words interspersed with filler noises such as ''like' and 'you know' is an unacceptable and inefficient form of communication. There is no such thing as U.S. English. We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take into account the reinstated letter 'u'' and the elimination of '-ize.' 3. July 4th will no longer be celebrated as a holiday. 4. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers, or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you're not quite ready to be independent. Guns should only be used for shooting grouse. If you can't sort things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist, then you're not ready to shoot grouse. 5. Therefore, you will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous than a vegetable peeler. Although a permit will be required if you wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public. 6. All intersections will be replaced with roundabouts, and you will start driving on the left side with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric with immediate effect and without the benefit of conversion tables. Both roundabouts and metrication will help you understand the British sense of humour. 7. The former USA will adopt UK prices on petrol (which you have been calling gasoline) of roughly $10/US gallon. Get used to it. 8. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call French fries are not real chips, and those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called crisps. Real chips are thick cut, fried in animal fat, and dressed not with catsup but with vinegar. 9. The cold, tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not actually beer at all. Henceforth, only proper British Bitter will be referred to as beer, and European brews of known and accepted provenance will be referred to as Lager. New Zealand beer is also acceptable, as New Zealand is pound for pound the greatest sporting nation on earth and it can only be due to the beer. They are also part of the British Commonwealth - see what it did for them. American brands will be referred to as Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine, so that all can be sold without risk of further confusion. 10. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as good guys. Hollywood will also be required to cast English actors to play English characters. Watching Andie Macdowell attempt English dialogue in Four Weddings and a Funeral was an experience akin to having one's ears removed with a cheese grater. 11. You will cease playing American football. There are only two kinds of proper football; one you call soccer, and rugby (dominated by the New Zealanders). Those of you brave enough will, in time, be allowed to play rugby (which has some similarities to American football, but does not involve stopping for a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body armour like a bunch of nancies). 12. Further, you will stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the World Series for a game which is not played outside of America. Since only 2.1% of you are aware there is a world beyond your borders, your error is understandable. You will learn cricket, and we will let you face the Australians (World dominators) first to take the sting out of their deliveries. 13. You must tell us who killed JFK. It's been driving us mad. 14. An internal revenue agent (i.e. tax collector) from Her Majesty's Government will be with you shortly to ensure the acquisition of all monies due (backdated to 1776). 15. Daily Tea Time begins promptly at 4 p.m. with proper cups, with saucers, and never mugs, with high quality biscuits (cookies) and cakes; plus strawberries (with cream) when in season. God Save the Queen!
  15. In case I might have missed any announcements, has anyone read where these ships are going to be deployed and for how many night sailings. There's nothing listed on Cruising Power for TA's. Navigator, Adventure, Liberty, Mariner, Independence. Thanks in advance to those who reply.

  17. Good Morning everyone, I have my first Royal cruise booked for September of this year on Independence of the Seas. A few weeks ago I saw the Deluxe Beverage Package was $45 a day. I stupidly didn't jump on it then and now it's $65 a day. If I book now and then the price drops, can I call and rebook with the new price or am I locked in? Also, does anyone have experience with The Key on Independence? Seems pretty interesting especially since I was planning to get Voom anyways. If anyone has any tips or tricks, drink recommendations, etc for Independence or what you wished you would have known for your first Royal cruise, I'd love to hear that as well. I feel like I'm really going to like Royal and have my eye on a few cruises next year too. Thanks!

  19. I did a L&S from Independence to Odyssey - 6 night Caribbean sailing Jan 20 to 21. Price is about £2000 cheaper than what we had got for Independence (JS Guarantee for only £550 a person! - JS on Odyssey is currently £1750 a person).
  20. Hi, I tried to search but can’t find my answer. On the independence of the seas if rooms are adjoining can the divider between the balconies be opened? Specially cabins 7408 and 7410. Thanks in advance for your help.
  21. Hi All- I was a GTY Junior Suite on the Independence of Seas and today was assigned #1102. I believe this is a new room, so I haven't found much information on it. Has anyone had any insight or stayed in the new section of Deck 11?
  22. Looking for opinions or pictures of the "new" Junior Suites on Deck 11 on Freedom Class ships (Freedom & Independence).
  23. We are new to RCL. Wondering about OV cabin fwd deck 7. Independence of the Sea cabin 7506 Does it have 2 OV windows? Any pictures to share? Pros/cons? Thanks!
  24. I see that the video is from Independence but is this the same for Freedom JS?
  25. The CDC updated some info today regarding crew disembarkation. Royal has three ships that aren't flagged Green: Independence, Serenade and Mariner. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/crew-disembarkations-commercial-travel.html
