  1. Hi were going on a 3 night on Independence of the seas end August from Southampton just a couple of ? Do they have a kettle? Do they have tea bags , coffee in rooms? What plug sockets do the have is it US ones? Our first time on RC. Thanks
  2. My fiancé and I have decided for our honeymoon for the Independence of the Seas Oceanview Balcony. I am really nervous to book because I want to make sure that room 8564 has sliding balcony doors for the view. I searched and searched online and can’t find the answer. If anyone has stayed in this room and can answer and/or has any insight we would greatly appreciate it!!!! Thank you! 😀
  3. I am sailing this weekend on Independence of the seas to celebrate my dad's 70's birthday with my family of 4 incl 2 small kids, my parents and a brother, total 7 of us. We had cruises with other cruise lines but all first time with RCCL. I have done some research but couldn't find all the answers and would like to get some help. Your comments on any of following will be greatly appreciated! 1. We are staying in suites and just got a message from concierge as a reply of my question, if there are any specific nights that MDR is recommended over specialty restaurants (because my parents are not huge fan of buffet and probably will go either specialty restaurant of MDR for dinners). The concierge recommended MDR on formal nights which is 3, 10 and 13th day. I was wondering if there is any difference in themes or ambiance on each formal nights or is it pretty much the same? Any other nights do you recommend to stay in MDR ? 2. I am trying to arrange celebration dinner in one of the specialty restaurants or on chef's table (I guess it is table in MDR?) Which one would you recommend and do they do birthday cakes or anything for the special occasion? 3. Concierge said that there are reserved seats in the shows for suite and diamond/pinnacle guests and advised to arrive 15mins before the show. Is it usually competitive or easy to get a seat? I wonder how early I should arrive to get a seat safely. I guess it is full ship on this sailing as in the middle of school hols. 4. Concierge confirmed that there are no bed guards available. I am planning to put my 2 kids(4 and 8) in the king bed to share or one each in single beds, but little bit worried about 4 yrs old as I will be sleeping in different room. I have fordable bed guard at home, would it be worth to carry it? Thank you!
  4. I agree,Kettles in cabins and formal night dressing up is a British thing. On Ventura 97%+ dressed up for formal night and even on Independence the cruise after you we found a high percentage dressed up for formal night.
  5. JustUs275 thank you! we have been on Freedom twice, Liberty twice but never Independence. Plus several other ships. This will be my 10th cruise and 8th with Royal
  6. Back to the OPs original question. 'Wear your Best' was the dress suggestion on Independence 11 days ago
  7. onboard IOS now and before sailing I struggled to find pictures of the new suite lounge so here are some!
  8. Hi all, We will be sailing in March on Independence of the Seas in cabin 9640 which is the center hump balcony cabin on the port side. Anyone have any thoughts they can share about this cabin? I think Liberty and Freedom of the Seas are the same class of ship for anyone who has sailed on her sister ships. Thanks!
  9. Hi Everyone I am wondering about the Diamond Lounge. Sailing in April 2020 on Independence and will have just turned Diamond. Is there food ? Drinks ? Open all day ? Thanks for any information or comments. ☀️🌴
  10. These ships have Freesytle machines: Adventure, Allure, Anthem, Enchantment, Explorer, Freedom, Grandeur, Harmony, Independence, Jewel, Majesty, Mariner, Navigator, Oasis, Quantum, Rhapsody, Symphony Ovation may also, but I've not seen a report on that.
  11. We sailed on Independence this past Spring Break, which is obviously a very busy week! We had no problems getting into any of the shows, ice skating sessions, etc. We really enjoyed the ship and the recent upgrades! Food in Windjammer and MDR was good and we were happy with all of the staff members. It was a full ship with lots of kids (our 2 granddaughters being among them!), but overall the ship handled the crowds well. I'm like you in that I get soooo excited when booking a cruise! Only 410 days until we sail 😄
  12. Quick question. We’re sailing at the end of Nov and wonder if anyone knows what time the hot tubs close in the Solarium (if they close at all) ? We know they definitely close down the pools at a certain time but not sure about the hot tubs. Thank you!
  13. I have a dilemma and wonder if anyone has any advise. I am looking at Indi cruise ex Southampton on the 26September. This is an extra sneaky cruise, have really used up our quota for this year so would be doing this on the cheap. The UK website still shows over 200 rooms available. Do you think the price may come down after final payment with this large number of capacity? Final payment here in UK is at 57 days out which would be July 31st. The dilemma is that I have GBP200 of Tesco vouchers to use which would knock GBP600 off the price but the terms and conditions to use Tesco vouchers state that the cruise has to be booked and paid for no later than 56 days before departure, so a very small window Any advise from anyone who has done late bookings after final payment when there is still a lot of rooms available? We were going to do a land touring holiday in Europe, but if I can get the price down hubby may go for another cruise thanks for any advise Sue
  14. We're just doing a 3 night cruise in August our first in RC, really like to do the Escape room can it be booked before or once on the ship? We have booked the Sky pad is that all that can be booked ? Want to try and get most things done as will everyone else. How does it work once onboard? Also the Laser what's your experience of doing these t things Thanks
  15. Whether you book for them, or pay for them, they don't get any perks and neither do you for buying an extra cabin. When my wife and I got married on Independence we paid for the cabins for 25 of our relatives... all on my one bill. I still got my 14 cruise points for my suite and that's it. lol
  16. 2 more quick questions. I have never had a message land or sea but I want one...is it best to book pre criuse or during the cruise for best price. Also when does the independence come back from Europe ? We are cruising out of Florida in Feb. Thanks again for any and all answers!
  17. Updated 9/09/19 --- My hope is to put update this thread every few days or at least once week. To do that, I need cruisers (or others that somehow have 'insider information') to let me know who they come across on sailings. HAPPY CRUISING! What Activity Manager have you come across? Post the name, ship and sailing date to help keep this thread as accurate as possible. ****Adventure OTS – Cian has been identified as currently on AD. Cian has told a cruiser that he will be onboard until Nov. 23 when he goes to Grandeur, ****Allure OTS – Moe was reassigned to Allure instead of going to Coco Cay probably from early August possibly as a 4 month contract. ****Anthem OTS – Kat joined Anthem in mid August for 2 months. We just sailed on the first NE/Canada cruise of the season and she was terrific. We will see who takes over from Kat in late October. Kat hosted the Quest and did a great job….I personally was not very fond of where they hold the Quest, but realistically there may be no other location. ****Brilliance OTS – TT has been reported as onboard on the completed sailing 4/20/19 and still onboard for the May 4 – 19 transatlantic sailing. No information on when he started to guess how long he might be onboard. ****Empress OTS – Tanya was on board, as per a cruiser in June. Probably took over from Eric Lopez. ****Enchantment OTS – Saini has been onboard, but could be completing a contract and departing the ship. Who is currently onboard? ****Explorer OTS – Katie (unknown last name, but not to be confused with Katie Turner) took over on June 26 and she is expected to be onboard until the end of October. ****Freedom OTS – Bern has been identified as on board. No information on contract timeline. ****Grandeur OTS – Katrina Blair should have returned on 8/13 and is expected to be there until 11/23. *****Harmony – Chris Turdo should have taken over from Mosese on July 28. ****Independence OTS – Katie Turner took over in June and should be onboard for a 4 month contract until Sept/October timeframe….unsure of exact dates. *****Jewel OTS – Luana from Brazil returned to Jewel in mid May. As of the 7/14 sailing she was still on board. Probably a 4 month contract through sometime in Sept. *****Liberty OTS – Kim is now on Liberty, unsure of start date… ****Majesty OTS – Who has taken over from Mauricio Diaz who departed the ship on 6/15 for vacation. WHO is currently onboard? I have asked Mauricio if he is going to return to MJ when he returns from vacation. *****Mariner OTS – Gemma Stubs has taken over from Alex Paul late July. She is scheduled to move into the CD role sometime in Mid September. Perhaps Alex Paul will be returning at that time as the AM…..time will tell. *****Navigator OTS – Looking to find out who is onboard now? *****Oasis OTS – In late September, Oasis heads to drydock and comes off the sailing schedule until February 2020. ***** Ovation – Angelle took over on 5/13 and she should be on a regular contract length, so onboard until mid Sept. Aysy should be taking over at that time. *****Quantum – Who is currently onboard? *****Radiance OTS – Sophie is currently onboard on the 7/30 sailing as reported to me, by the CD on the ship, Mark Rous. **** Rhapsody OTS – Thiago Motta has been reported on board. Waiting to learn more details of his contract. **** Serenade OTS – Elizabeth Hackett was on the March 25th sailing. She may have arrived in mid February, and could be on a 4 month contract until June. I do know she is still onboard of 5/30. **** Spectrum OTS – Chinese young lady named Raphael (unsure of spelling). **** Symphony OTS – Hannah has joined the ship late June. Hannah will be on the ship until Sept 21, when Flavio Maeda takes over when he returns from his vacation. ***** Vision OTS – Palo has been identified as onboard, unsure when his contract began. *****Voyager OTS – Kitty has been onboard since May 3, 2019. We don’t know if it is a 2 or 4 month contract.
  18. I understand these 2 BR grand suites located in the aft of the ship were previously one larger suite (Presidential maybe)? My question is because these suites are essentially one very large suite split into two large suites, is there an advantage of one side vs the other? From what I can tell on Youtube, aside from the differences in the layout (for example, where the master is located), the two cabins on each aft seem similar. The only exception is looking at the balconies for 6416 and 6716 where the port side cabin has a bar, and the starboard side cabin has a hottub left over from the one huge balcony for when the two were one large cabin.
  19. You can self disembark in Southampton and Independence usually use the City Terminal. Most people on board are Brits and formal nights are usually well observed by guest's although suits and Tux are not compulsory. Promenade Cafe on the Royal Promenade is open 24 hours for hot drinks and snacks. $13 limit per drink, you pay the difference+gratuity. Bottles of wine have a discount only with the drinks package.
  20. After looking at a virtual tour of one of the mega ships (Independence), I will be quite happy to sail on the smaller ships like Rhapsody and Radiance -- love the solarium -- even though they are older. The huge ship reminded me of going to a shopping mall, you could get lost! Maybe it's because I am in my sixties and appreciate a more relaxed, peaceful environment without lots of crowds.
  21. https://help.royalcaribbean.co.uk/hc/en-gb/sections/360004499552-Independence-of-the-Seas-2020-changes-to-sailings I've just spotted this on one of the UK TA sites and have found this on the RCL UK site. Looks like only Anthem will be sailing from Southampton next year. Sorry if it's already been posted but couldn't see anything on here.
  22. we are going on Indy at the end of August. I have some questions if anyone knows the answers. Do they take take away your belongings from the suite deck loungers if you’re in the pool more than 30 mins or away for more than 30 mins ? I know they do with the normal chairs round the pool. is ice cream self serve or is someone there making them ? royal suite - does anyone know how many the hot tub on the balcony will hold ? and also is the sofa bed comfy ? My kids will be sleeping in there. It looks grubby in some pictures and not in others. Any ideas ? Does anyone have the past 2019 cruise compass for Southampton to Spain and France ? Many thanks
  23. I will be on Independence of the Seas in November. Do they still serve complimentary champagne during all art auction events? And on a cruise compass, I noticed some daily specials of Bloody Mary and Mimosa drinks at various lounges during the day. Any idea of the cost? As you may be able to tell, I won't have a drink package on this cruise. 😁 I will enjoy the $2 mimosas during casino happy hours. TIA
  24. I didn't see this topic posted, so apologize if this is a duplicate. I received an email this morning letting me know that the cruise I'm booked on has now been chartered. We were on the January 16th sailing to Grand Cayman and Coco Cay out of Fort Lauderdale. They did give me options, but nothing with Coco Cay, which is why we booked that one in the first place. Still, we chose one of the options that was price protected and will stop in Grand Cayman and Cozumel instead. Bummer, but we had such a deal and not a lot of flexibility on dates, and Cozumel is fun. I did a quick search and here's what the charter is. http://www.capitaljazz.com/supercruise/2021/
  25. Hi I was wonder if ID still has a free sauna/ steamer and gym thank you
