  1. Independence is much bigger than Mariner carrying more passengers. Maybe Symphony will take over from Harmony.
  2. Independence is my guess. She did several short cruises from Southampton UK so 3 or 4 night cruises to CocoCay and Nassau would be logical.
  3. Looking forward to this thread. Interested to see what will happen with regards to Liberty/Anthem/Oasis. LB seems to be taking over the 5/9 nighters, however, where does that leave Anthem? If she flops again in Southampton, I can't see her returning in 2021, and I don't see the complaints from 2015 changing - Anthem and Indy have nothing in common, AN is just too different for the majority of the hardcore Indy fans to enjoy. I thought that Anthem would be back in NJ for Summer 2021 which would allow Liberty or Independence to go to Southampton and the other to do the short cruises from FLL. Oasis will probably stay on the 7 nighters. Also wondering if Enchantment will go to Europe after her San Juan run - she's yet to do a Europe season and all of the other ships, bar Majesty and Empress have done seasons in a location other than the Caribbean and Northeast. EN has only left that region once in 22 years for her lengthening.
  4. Thanks for all your replies we have been on Arcadia Azure and Aurora do find them a bit lacking in sea days unless your into dancing, quizzes Saying that we have only done short cruises 1 x 3( soon be 2x 3) and 2 x 7 night ones . Do like the chilled out feeling and the britishness, . I know my grandchildren will love Independence of the seas, was planning on deciding after this cruise which to book for next year but Independence is not an option now ( one of our group will not fly) I am I bit surprised p o don't have more for kids to do out of the kids clubs I would want to spend time with my kids
  5. How much do the crystal blocks weigh? The reason I ask is that we are due to get our first on Independence in a few weeks but we fly down to Southampton so are restricted on weight.
  6. My mum and I will be sailing together on Independence of the Seas on 10th August. We both have drinks packages. I am a diamond member and she is emerald. I was hoping to try out the diamond lounge for the first time but unsure whether we will both be allowed in or only myself? Thanks for your help
  7. During the May 2018 refurbishment of Independence of the Seas 6 staterooms were added to Deck 11. These were carved out from part of the Spa area I believe. I am booking junior suite 1106 and would like information about this cabin or the other two junior suites beside it and cannot find anything about it online. Has anybody here been in one of these deck 11 junior suites or seen any info or videos online about them?
  8. Just got an e-mail from RCCL. Seems our USCG wants to conduct a "routine inspection" . They adjusted boarding time to 12:00 to 3:30. Not sure what it was before. They asked that people arrive no earlier than noon now. We were reserved to check in 11:30 before. Do we just up that a half hour?
  9. We had expedited arrival on Independence out of Southampton England in May 2019.
  10. Looking at booking a 4 day cruise with DH end of the year. We're looking at either Independence, Brilliance or I won't (yet) dismiss Majesty. Looking at Thurs departure so we're a bit limited. Independence is 4 night out of FLL and stops at Cozumel. We actually did this same cruise last December. We can get a balcony room for a decent price. Brilliance is 4 night out of Tampa and stops at Cozumel. We've never been on this ship (or Radiance class). The downside is that an ocean view on this cruise costs what a balcony costs on Independence. (And likewise, a balcony on this cruise costs what a Junior Suite costs on Indy). Also it leaves the week before Christmas so not sure if that impacts flights in a positive or negative way. Majesty is a 5 night cruise out of FLL and stops at Cozumel and Costa Maya. No balcony rooms so we'd either book an ocean view (which is tiny) or a Junior Suite is a bit more than we want to pay for a short (bonus) cruise. I'm hesitant on this ship since it's so small. I know it's a bit subjective, but thoughts?

  12. I'm torn between the Brilliance, which does a 4 night out of Tampa, and a 5 night on the Independence. We live in NY, so plan to fly in the day before. Therefore, the 4 night actually works better as we don't want to be gone too long from the kids. But the Brillance looks kind of old and boring. I looked at pictures on cruise critic and the ship seems very dated. The Independence looks much more updated with cool features like the ice show, laser tag, and cantilevered hot tubs. My husband and I are looking for a short cruise in January while my in-laws watch our 2 year old twins. We have about 10 cruises under our belt. We have mainly cruised celebrity and love the S-class ships, but have done rccl (Serenade of the seas), princess (Grand), NCL (Breakway), and Carnival (Valor). We are looking to try something new! I tend to be disappointed with older ships (Grand Princess two years ago was a little disappointing). I love a special feature on a ship, such as the lawn on the celebrity ships, or the dueling pianos and improv club on NCL. Specialty restaurants are not important to us, as we typically find the included food to be fine (except on NCL). Does Independence feel more updated? Is the Brillance really as old as it looks in the pictures? Any cruise is a good cruise, but I'm really torn about this decision. The Brillance cruise works better for us, I'm just worried that there seems to be nothing exciting about the ship and I will be disappointed. Sent from my SM-G930V using Forums mobile app

  14. So since we are sailing on the Independence, how about a little Independence Day fireworks. This video is one I took on June 30th, in a little town in Western Pennsylvania. The grand finale was sponsored by a company with a Royal Caribbean connection. Can anyone guess what it is?
  15. Yes they are. We have been on Oasis twice, Allure once and we will be on Harmony in a few months. I ageee those ships are destinations unto themselves and excellent for families with kids-just can’t go wrong on any itinerary on them! BUT, for Spring Break 2020, we chose Carnival Breeze, mainly because the price for Harmony is insane compared to what we have paid in the past, but also to see some new ports on their Eastern Caribbean itinerary (Amber Cove, San Juan and Grand Turk will be new to us). So by the time November 2020 comes along, our kids will have come to the realization that not all ships have carousels and Aqua-theaters! I was considering Independence just after the Amped Renovation and did quite a bit of research on this class of ship. And while I agree it’s no Oasis (nothing compares to Central Park and the Boardwalk), there still seems to be plenty of kid-friendly amenities. Knowing Freedom will have been recently “Amped” by the time this cruise comes around helps too, as I’m sure that will add to the wow factor for the kids. If anything, it’ll be bigger and nicer than their last cruise on Carnival Breeze! 😉
  16. Does anyone happen to have copies of the 4 day recent daily activities papers?
  17. Dear Dan, I recently sailed Independence of the Seas sailing ex Southampton on 29 June 2019 and purchased the UDP for my party. The terms of UDP when I sailed was that it was valid for lunches on sea days only, but dinner on all days. The $35 per person allowance was per venue at restaurants which were a la carte, which included Fish and Ships, Sushi at Izumi and Playmakers. If you manage to spend the $35 allowance at Fish and Ships, that is a lot of food. Similarly, the nachos from Playmakers was large and the 4 of us did not manage to eat an entire serving for one person. Again if you wished to use the UDP for lunch at Playmakers, it must be a sea-day, otherwise you will be charged. We went to JR for a couple of evening casual meals. Also because we were never able to get to dessert, we did do a take-out of apple and ice-cream from JR on a sea-day for lunch. Negatives The recurring problem we experienced at Fish and Ships was that we were charged every time and had to go to Guest Services to have the charge removed. The problem is caused because there is nothing on the card to indicate that the holder has UDP and even though when the charge is put through the till, the servers at Fish and Ships for some reason, chose to ignore it. IMHO, if your cruise has a lot of sea-days, I am not sure that it is worth the purchase. Our 14 day cruise had 9 ports of call and the UDP could not be used on those days for lunches, nor on embarkation day. It was a great convenience but in this instance, I think it offered poor value. Hope that helps.

  19. Hi everyone! My first cruise in 12 years...crazy! Going on a spring break cruise with my 13 year old- her first time. I had a few questions for the regulars: we are booked in a JS on deck 9- I was reading last night that this is directly under a cantilevered hot tub...is this a bad thing? What to do in Coco Cay? I’m assuming water park won’t be open yet? Was thinking of renting a cabana or beach spot for some much needed sun..how does food and drink work on the beach there? Flying into FLL very early...my docs say arrive noon. I figured we would have breakfast at the airport and then head over to the port. Should I arrange private ground transportation or is uber at FLL a fine way to go? Does anyone have a transportation company they recommend? i guess I last cruised prior to the ultra digital age...I saw luggage tags I could print out with my docs...I guess I just tape that flat on our luggage?? thank you!
  20. Anyone know what make of pods the machines take in the suites on the Brilliance and Independence so I can take my own, I drink a lot of coffee. I've tried and tried but can't find the information anywhere, thanks.
  21. Yes there is a charge but it is worth it. We had Fish&Chips and Scampi &Chips on Independence in May 2018.
  22. does anyone know if there is there a charge for fish and chips on independence?
  23. Hi everyone! I am looking for some input on your FAVORITE Junior Suites or Grand Suites on Independence of the Seas? My BF (C&A Diamond status) and I are looking to plan a short 4 night cruise (destination TBD) in late 2020 or early 2021. Balcony is really what is most important to us as we enjoy spending out there relaxing, reading, drinking our morning coffee or pre-dinner cocktails. Trying to decide on which Junior Suite or Grand Suite might work best for us. We plan on booking pretty far out and from what I am seeing, the cost difference between the JS and GS isn't that obscene on some of the itineraries. For a 4 night cruise, some of the perks of the GS (cocktail hour) may help minimize our bar tab -vs- if we chose going the JS route. We don't do a drink package, but do enjoy our cocktails! Our preferences: Cabin location; AFT/MID/FWD are all up for consideration Balcony SIZE & some SUN is priority Unobstructed view is preferred We typically take the STAIRS to move between floors (our rationalization for dessert!) No physical limitations, so proximity to elevators is NOT a concern I've seen other threads for other ships with folks weighing in on their favorite JS and GS suites, so I am looking for help here narrowing down room selections. Would appreciate any insight and also any photos of your balconies on Independence to help with our booking decisions! Thanks in advance 🙂
  24. We're on Independence of the seas end of August going to Bruges, have been before with another company and done the company coach into Bruges is this the best way to go it seems expensive ( more with RC) there will be 9 of us. The train seems complicated, are the any other buses from the port? Thanks
  25. Hi, Has anyone any experience staying in a Grand Suite on deck 10 on the Indpendance OTS? We are wondering about any noise disturbance etc from deck 11. thanks
