  1. In October when we were on Explorer CL was on Deck 9. DL was on Deck 14 in the VCL. The amp hasn't happened because of covid19. When Independence had her amp the DL stayed where it was in the VCL with an outside seating area and the SL was at the left side of the VCL where Izumi on Explorer is currently.
  2. Yeah, so the only replacement to my 7 night Independence of the Seas cruise (Coco Cay, St Thomas and St Martin) is a 5 night cruise on the Mariner (Labadee and Bahamas). Per RCI. What a joke. That's definitely not an even exchange. The fair exchange would have been 7 nights on the Oasis at the same exact time a year from now, same itinerary and length of the cruise as Indy. But no, all they can do is 5 nights on the Mariner, NOT the same itinerary and it costs less right now than the Indy cruise. I knew it was too good to be true - I am actually losing money on this cruise.
  3. The Barricade Boys on Independence last year were great.
  4. We are just the opposite, wife and I are both in late 60's. After a dozen or so cruises on Monarch through Independence we are hooked on Oasis class. One Caribbean and 3 transatlantic crossings. We just had our Nov TA on Allure cancelled and did the L&S to Harmony TA 2021.Only smaller ship we will book in the future will be Ovation sailing Alaska. To each their own.. happy cruising. PS Richard Fein says cruising will resume at 70% capacity when sailing starts.
  5. Rock the Boat on the Anthem in 2015 and The Royal Swedes on the Independence in 2017 and Spectrum in 2019 have been my favourites 😊😊 Ah good times.
  6. Just happened to turn on the webcam in time to find Independence arriving in St. Maarten today, where it seems she has been a fair amount lately. The first few times I've seen the ship on the webcam I assumed it was just getting refueled or new provisions, but the frequency of the visits the last few weeks seems too much for either of those. Does anyone know why the ship is there so (relatively) much? And that brought up another question. With all these ships that are mostly just sailing or anchored except for occasional returns to port for food for fuel, are the captains going to get, for lack of a better word, out of practice with their docking maneuvers? Particularly in the more difficult ports, or those where conditions change frequently? Especially if it turns out that it's the better part of a year before a ship returns to its "usual" ports.
  7. Think the only thing that seems to be a bit off is the Gibraltar ones, independence has been on there for the next few years (including 2021) and there hasn’t been a second ship out of Southampton
  8. I am no expert on searching here, but I did learn a little trick a few weeks ago. You can sort the posts in this thread by most views. Then you will notice that Reviews, live ones especially, tend to have the most views. Unfortunately, most of the really popular ones are from many years ago, as this site may have lost some of it's luster after one to many updates. Who knows. Here are some links to a few oldies but goodies, with just a few recent ones. 9. I cruised from Norfolk with around 4000 other sailors on a mega ship, the USS Independence, and 400 men on the USS Belknap many years ago. Baltimore was 2 hrs. south for us, Norfolk is 5 hrs. I would fly to Florida before I drive that distance. It might be OK for folks in Virginia and southern states.
  10. We currently have three cabins for the March 22, 2021 sailing on the Independence of the Seas. It is for me (dad), mom, daughter, daughter, daughter, and grandma. All three daughters are under 13 years of age. Cabin 1 ( me and daughter), Cabin 2 (mom and daughter), Cabin 3 (grandma and daughter). Grandma is 78. What would happen if grandma decides not to go in March? She wants to go, just don't know how things will be at that time. Will they let us keep cabin 3 (not asking for a refund on grandma's fare) with just a child booked in it or will they make us change cabin 1 or cabin 2 to a cabin that holds 3 and make us pay the prevailing rates at that time? Thanks in advance for your help
  11. Absolutely true on the ships which had the CL tucked away in a dark and dreary place while the DL was in a wonderful area with views of the outside (Independence comes to mind" An exception has to be Anthem which has a wonderful CL spread across the entire back of the ship with wonderful views.
  12. Me too , was leaving next Friday for a 5 day on Independence with my daughter and grandchildren. It was to be the kids first cruise, looked forward to it for over a year. Now as someone else said waiting for my last booked for Oct to cancel, had 4 cancel so far.
  13. Independence DL and outside area in my photos is nice. Strange on the biggest ships like Harmony they put the DL on deck4 without any windows.
  14. We usually book for the first, and also for the second night, as soon as we board. We have done this on all the Oasis class ships, Navigator and Independence.
  15. I missed the Independence sail away but watched the MSC Armonia sail away yesterday. That ship looked very worn.
  16. I posted this on Sunday in the 'crew repatriation' thread but didn't get much response. This is from Pt. St. Maarten's FB page: 📣Press Release | Two Cruise Ships arrive Sunday for Repatriation of Crew Operations✈️ ⚓️PORT ST. MAARTEN – On Sunday, July 26, two cruise ships will be in port for the repatriation of their crew to their homelands. The vessels are the Independence of the Seas from Royal Caribbean International (RCI) and MSC Cruises MSC Armonia. 🛳Both vessels will arrive on Sunday. #IndependenceoftheSeas will depart on Tuesday while #MSCArmonia will depart on Monday. 📌The repatriation of crew will be carried out based on the ports strict “Sterile Port Protocol” that falls under the scope of the Ordinance Public Health which is part of the International Health Regulations as issued by the World Health Organization (WHO). ✅This protocol ensures public health safety and security at the Dr. A.C. Wathey Cruise & Cargo Facilities for all incoming vessels at the port. 🇸🇽Port St. Maarten was chosen due to its strategic location in the Northeastern Caribbean as well as its international connections with airports around the world. As a destination, St. Maarten has displayed its ability to facilitate such repatriation operations safely and efficiently. 🏝The country’s infrastructure such as its homeporting facility and services at Port St. Maarten makes it easy for a cruise ship to have travel documents of crews processed and then taken directly to the Airport to board their international flight. 🔍Additional services such as fuel bunkering and food provisioning, are also available that cruise lines can avail during their port call.
  17. Good Morning everyone, I have my first Royal cruise booked for September of this year on Independence of the Seas. A few weeks ago I saw the Deluxe Beverage Package was $45 a day. I stupidly didn't jump on it then and now it's $65 a day. If I book now and then the price drops, can I call and rebook with the new price or am I locked in? Also, does anyone have experience with The Key on Independence? Seems pretty interesting especially since I was planning to get Voom anyways. If anyone has any tips or tricks, drink recommendations, etc for Independence or what you wished you would have known for your first Royal cruise, I'd love to hear that as well. I feel like I'm really going to like Royal and have my eye on a few cruises next year too. Thanks!
  18. Hi, I tried to search but can’t find my answer. On the independence of the seas if rooms are adjoining can the divider between the balconies be opened? Specially cabins 7408 and 7410. Thanks in advance for your help.
  19. The Pt. St. Maarten FB page posted that Indy is there now through Tuesday, dropping off more crew so they can fly home. You can also get to the link via the PTZTV FB page. 📣Press Release | Two Cruise Ships arrive Sunday for Repatriation of Crew Operations✈️ ⚓️PORT ST. 20. Hi All- I was a GTY Junior Suite on the Independence of Seas and today was assigned #1102. I believe this is a new room, so I haven't found much information on it. Has anyone had any insight or stayed in the new section of Deck 11?
  21. It is nice that the KSF will be honored in your case as well. I am sure we will love Harmony more than Independence, although we are quite nostalgic about Indy: Indy was our very first cruise back in 2009, and then our son's very first cruise in 2014. :) We loved everything about Indy, but will be in even more awe of Harmony.
  22. We are new to RCL. Wondering about OV cabin fwd deck 7. Independence of the Sea cabin 7506 Does it have 2 OV windows? Any pictures to share? Pros/cons? Thanks!
  23. Independence DL has great views and outside sitting area too. Graham
  24. Thanks. The same happened to us once on Independence before you could use your vouchers in the restaurant. We carried 4 glasses to Giovanni's. 🍾
  25. >>>>>>> "The 'golden age of cruising' (before March 2020) is finished."<<<<<<< Sad but true. I was on Independence, March 12, 2020, which may have been my last Royal cruise. I hope to be proven wrong! We were temperature scanned entering the terminal, but did not need masks then. The ship seemed half full. The SL and DL were ominously very empty every evening. Grecia, and Ooma were wonderful as always, hope they are doing OK. The flu was in the news and causing great consternation at Royal. In fact Royal banned people over 70 following that cruise, the panic was starting to cause official reaction. Turns out that they cancelled all following cruises after that one... on Indy anyway. IMHO, it was not very fun, although the crew were terrific. We do not want to cruise like that again. Royal's conundrum....... is 'How to make us want to cruise again?'
