  1. We did a 14-night Asia cruise on the Celebrity Millennium in Jan 2018 and LOVED IT!!!! We then did a 14-night Asia cruise on the HAL Westerdam in March 2019 and it was just okay. Loved the ship but the food was horrible!!!! We are now looking at another Asia cruise for early 2020 doing mostly Japan or Japan & Taiwan and like the itineraries on the Diamond Princess. We mentioned this ship to fellow cruisers on the HAL cruise and people were quite negative about it. (They weren't all loyal HAL customers) I always thought that Celebrity, HAL & Princess were comparable. Am I wrong? I like the idea of the Diamond Princess having more Asian type food. My husband is from Hong Kong and loves the idea of the buffet having a ramen station as well as Japanese cold noodles available. But overall is the food better, same or worse? I still have time to do research as we usually book last minute but would love to hear your thoughts.
  2. My wife and I will be taking a cruise around Japan next June on Diamond Princess. My hope is that Japanese cuisine shows up somewhat on the ship's menus. Does anyone know if this is the case? Thank you.
  3. It's hard to tell from the deck plans. Is the Sterling Steakhouse on the Diamond Princess an actual stand alone restaurant or is it just a cordoned off section of Horizon Court?
  4. Could you please tell me which dining room is open for lunch on embarkation day on Diamond Princess?
  5. We will be on Diamond Princess again this year. Our last port of call before Kobe is Busan, South Korea, then a sea day and then docking in Kobe. Last time we did Japan customs and passport control on board on the sea day before docking back in Japan. Will this still be the case or should we plan on a multi hour wait for customs after docking in Kobe??
  6. We are looking to select one of these cabins on deck 11 Baja deck on the Diamond Princess. The cabins are B314 B315 B318 B319 B323. Looking at the deck plan, for the deck above these cabins (deck 10 Caribe), there are blank spaces above these cabins, just wondering what theses spaces are. Will it be noisy? There is a similar blank space right next to B315, anyone know what that space is? Thanks so much.
  7. Hello! Just returned from 13 days on the Diamond Princess cruising Japan. I don't see the exact cruise I did but its very similar to this one: http://www.princess.com/find/cruiseDetails.do?voyageCode=M818A Since there's not a lot about these cruises on here, I wanted to open myself up for questions. A few things to know: -I don't gamble or drink so I can't really speak to those. -This cruise is 90%+ Japanese cruisers. On our trip IIRC there were over 2100 Japanese & the ship holds about 2600 passengers. I don't have a complete passenger breakdown but I do remember about 160 Americans and between 250-300 Australians. -We only took Princess excursions. So, ask me anything!!
  8. Hi there! Just wondering if any members have any pics of the current MDR menus available on Diamond Princess. Tried to do a quick search, but was only able to find bevereage menus. We're counting on dreaming with "the goodies" since our cruise is still a long way to come... Thanks in advance😋 Sílvia
  9. So we finally decided on an aft suite, and we have a choice between Emerald and Caribe. The rooms are either: E730 or C750. On E730, we'd be right above the Promenade deck, so I'm not sure about the noise/loud conversations from people walking under us. There is also one balcony room next to us, and the middle area looks to me maintenance(?) with no room there. We'd have the corner of the ship to ourselves. On C750, we are further from the Promenade walkers. But 750 is in between a Penthouse Suite and a regular balcony. We would not have the corner balcony on C. I am leaning toward 730 because of the corner balcony, but I've never stayed directly above Promenade deck before. Any tips? Thanks! Here are some excellent shots to help decide:
  10. We're looking to book a mini-suite on the Diamond's Dolphin Deck, but several people in a different forum warned us that the balconies are exposed: no overhang, no privacy, the people above you look right down into your balcony. I called Princess to inquire, and she said that ALL of the mini-suites are exposed balconies. That is disappointing. Can't afford a regular suite, and the mini-suite will have people above staring down on us. Anyone who's stayed in these mini-suites, can you please offer your opinion on the lack of a ceiling on your balcony? Did it bother you or made no difference? thanks!
  11. We have booked a summer 2020 cruise around Japan on the Diamond, but are getting a little worried about comments that she is looking a little rough around the edges (especially the staterooms)....can anyone who has sailed on her recently give me some feedback please?
  12. Wondering what shape the Diamond is in after dry dock....staterooms, public areas???
  13. Just booked a Japan cruise for late June 2020...haven't sailed on the Diamond for 4 years and am wondering if the interior still looks a little “used”?
  14. Hi all, we've just hopped off Majestic Princess and while we did love the cruise, we were very disappointed in the photography offerings. We bought the all inclusive package on Star Princess in 2017 and took tons of photos and brought home lots of family pics (it's hard to get photos with all of us in them when one of us has to hold the camera). So it was disappointing to discover that Majestic did not have any packages at all. You had to pay per photo, which did not represent good value to us. We have a cruise booked on Diamond in Jan 2020 (Sing-Tokyo) and was wondering if anyone has been on her recently and can confirm if they have photography packages, or whether they're moving to a different model fleet-wide. I'm not sure if they do it across the board or whether there's variation between ships. Thanks 🙂
  15. Sorry - I was busy, lazy, stressed, cruising - however, I had many reasons that I had no time to translate a few more of the Princess blogs. One of them was DIAMOND PRINCESS Singapore - Vietnam - Hong Kong - Taiwan - Japan in 2016. The second was OCEAN PRINCESS Dover, England - Jersey - Wales - Ireland - Scotland back to England in 2015. Now the translation is available, and you are invited to join me on this virtually: Day 0 on the way to Singapore and pre-cruise in Singapore https://heinbloed-pcl.blogspot.com/2016/04/tagday-01-vor-derbefore-diamond.html https://heinbloed-pcl.blogspot.com/2016/04/tagday-02-vor-derbefore-diamond.html https://heinbloed-pcl.blogspot.com/2016/04/tagday-03-vor-derbefore-diamond.html https://heinbloed-pcl.blogspot.com/2016/04/tagday-04-vor-derbefore-diamond.html Day 1 debarkation day https://heinbloed-pcl.blogspot.com/2016/04/tagday-1-auf-deron-diamond-princess-in.html Day at Sea 2 https://heinbloed-pcl.blogspot.com/2016/04/seetagday-at-sea-2-auf-deron-diamond.html Day 3 in Phu My, Vietnam https://heinbloed-pcl.blogspot.com/2016/04/tagday-3-auf-deron-diamond-princess-in.html Day 4 in Nha Trang, Vietnam https://heinbloed-pcl.blogspot.com/2016/04/tagday-4-auf-deron-diamond-princess-in.html
  16. Hoping that someone who has been on the Diamond in Japan can answer some questions. Is the food at the buffet similar to what is served elsewhere, or is it mostly Japanese and other Asian food? I would be happy with Japanese and other Asian food, but I am curious. Are some shore excursions conducted in English, and if so, are they so labelled? What about shows in the Princess Theater? In English, Japanese, or both?I was on the Diamond, years ago, in Alaska, and I would love to sail the Diamond in Japan. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.
  17. We are considering sailing on the Diamond Princess on a 12 day cruise sailing out of Singapore in January. Just wondering if there is any venue for us to do some ballroom dancing? Anyone who has sailed on her recently, could you please share your experience with us regarding the ship, what music does the house band play? How many dance venues are there....etc. Just curious what type of activities will be offered on the ship? What is the demographic of the ship? Any info on the ship is welcome. Thank you in advance.

  19. Hi cruisers. I guess I am the first to post. Let me hear from you. Les
  20. Long shot here, but... I'm a bit late booking an obstructed view on the Diamond next year. What's left are cabins looking out on the upper level of the promenade deck or overlooking the staircases up. After consulting renter's photos I booked E201 since water level is visible and I figured I'd only see people's heads and torsos, and then only for a while. Anyone sailed in a "staircase cabin?" I'm thinking of switching to a cabin farther forward, where the bottom half of the view is blocked by the railing but there's no other obstruction...except for people standing in front of the window. Thoughts, anyone?
  21. Cruise #42 was abroad Diamond Princess. Here's the itinerary of this cruise: It's been a while since our last Princess cruise and it was great to be back abroad my favorite cruise line. Checking in at the Port of Kobe was very easy. Before we know it, we were already heading onto the ship and bringing our carryon to our stateroom. Things I liked about this cruise: Cabin space and layout Handheld shower head with decent water pressure Service throughout the ship Escargots in the main dining room (the best I have had thus far in all of the ships' restaurants) Dinner rolls in the main dining room Things I disliked about this cruise: Bed was a bit harder than I would have liked, but it didn't give me any back problems. Perhaps harder bed is the way to go? Shower curtain instead of door (like other cruise line) Breakfast was the same every day, lack of variety was quite disappointing Room temperature, although not steamy or stuffy like some have experienced, it was certainly warmer than I would have liked. It was not cold/cool in the room. Casino was closed most of the time, with very limited number of slot machines when it was finally open. In a way it was good, it saved us some money 😀 Disembarkation was also very easy. Overall, we had a wonderful time abroad Diamond Princess and it was definitely a great experience to visit so many exciting ports.
  22. We are booked for the 8 day trip around Japan. We have an S2 Owners suite. My son, his wife, and grandson have a balcony. We have always had a mini-suite but took a fantastic upgrade offer to the full suite. Questions: Lots of perks for a suite. Embarkation priority. Can my family go through the lines with me? What about on and off the ship at the ports? Dining: Can I use my priority to reserve anytime dining and have my family join us.? Can I have dinner served in our suite for 5? THX Gerry F
  23. Does anyone have a Diamond Princess magnet they would be willing to part with (sell)? I'm trying to collect a magnet for each ship we've been on and I forgot to get one on the Diamond Princess a few years ago. The Diamond is now sailing in Asia and I won't be able to cruise there.
  24. I posted a video of my pictures touring the Diamond Princess from my Spring Flowers Cruise in April. The pictures include some of the food and menus. Here is the link: If you would like to see any of the other videos from the ports from the cruise, you can find them in this playlist: Thank you.
