  1. Follow along with me, on this, our first trip across the pond. For the next two weeks, plus, we are getting our first exposure to England, Spain, France, and Italy. It it is a good sign when you look out your window, and see your ship waiting for you.
  2. I understand these 2 BR grand suites located in the aft of the ship were previously one larger suite (Presidential maybe)? My question is because these suites are essentially one very large suite split into two large suites, is there an advantage of one side vs the other? From what I can tell on Youtube, aside from the differences in the layout (for example, where the master is located), the two cabins on each aft seem similar. The only exception is looking at the balconies for 6416 and 6716 where the port side cabin has a bar, and the starboard side cabin has a hottub left over from the one huge balcony for when the two were one large cabin.
  3. we are going on Indy at the end of August. I have some questions if anyone knows the answers. Do they take take away your belongings from the suite deck loungers if you’re in the pool more than 30 mins or away for more than 30 mins ? I know they do with the normal chairs round the pool. is ice cream self serve or is someone there making them ? royal suite - does anyone know how many the hot tub on the balcony will hold ? and also is the sofa bed comfy ? My kids will be sleeping in there. It looks grubby in some pictures and not in others. Any ideas ? Does anyone have the past 2019 cruise compass for Southampton to Spain and France ? Many thanks
  4. I didn't see this topic posted, so apologize if this is a duplicate. I received an email this morning letting me know that the cruise I'm booked on has now been chartered. We were on the January 16th sailing to Grand Cayman and Coco Cay out of Fort Lauderdale. They did give me options, but nothing with Coco Cay, which is why we booked that one in the first place. Still, we chose one of the options that was price protected and will stop in Grand Cayman and Cozumel instead. Bummer, but we had such a deal and not a lot of flexibility on dates, and Cozumel is fun. I did a quick search and here's what the charter is. http://www.capitaljazz.com/supercruise/2021/
  5. https://help.royalcaribbean.co.uk/hc/en-gb/sections/360004499552-Independence-of-the-Seas-2020-changes-to-sailings I've just spotted this on one of the UK TA sites and have found this on the RCL UK site. Looks like only Anthem will be sailing from Southampton next year. Sorry if it's already been posted but couldn't see anything on here.
  6. onboard IOS now and before sailing I struggled to find pictures of the new suite lounge so here are some!
  7. Hi I was wonder if ID still has a free sauna/ steamer and gym thank you
  8. This is our first cruise on one of the biggie ships and the first with our grandchildren There are so many activities and I know that not everything is included ( I wonder if I can keep the arcade a sectet ? ) Is the lazer tag a charge ? How about the trampoline? This is the first time we have had to worry about kids, it is usually all about which drink card to get lol Thanks for your help Kris
  9. Hi all We’ve been on the Independence of the Seas now for 6 days of a 14 night Western Mediterranean cruise. I thought that I would offer my impression of the cruise so far. We have cruised RCCL and Celebrity many time before but unfortunately, due to illness, we have not been able to cruise for the last three years. Ok, so embarkation was a breeze. I was concerned about this because we had about 70kg of medical supplies as well as luggage to get onto the ship. After much liaising with RCCL Special Services we were met outside the terminal in Southampton by a porter who unloaded the luggage from the car and took it straight to our stateroom. The time was 10.10am. I then parked the car and went to check in. I had completed our set sail passes online and had expedited check in which was a breeze. A quick scan of the Royal app on our phones, a few questions and straight through security and into the lounge to wait for boarding to commence. By 10.35am we were in the Schooner Bar. Well done to all involved for such a smooth boarding process. After a quick drink in Schooner we went to Guest Relations to ask if we could make sure our medical supplies had arrived in the room. Usually you can’t go to the stateroom until 1pm but they allowed us to go early to check everything. All had been delivered so now time to relax and enjoy the next 14 nights and days. Neither Tracy or myself are big drinkers but the drink package was included in our cruise fare, I won’t say it was free because we all know that you get nothing for free. The first evening of the cruise was crowded. Two things stood out, after the late seating dinner had finished you could not get a seat in any of the bars, and there was a distinct lack of bar servers. This may be because there is the impression that the Brits will go to the bar if they want a drink, which I suppose is not wrong, but if you are trying to encourage people to go to the bar for there drinks it might be a good idea to remove the seating from around the bar so people can get to it. Personally, I prefer to be served my drink when I am on a cruise so maybe I’m not a ‘typical Brit’. The other thing that we discovered was that our stateroom was directly over the Pub!!!! This is by no means a criticism of Royal Caribbean, I should have done my research first. Let’s just say that if you don’t anticipate being out until around 12.30am then try to avoid the rooms over the Pub. The second day was the first sea day and as the ship was crossing the Bay of Biscay it wasn’t really outside pool/Sunbathing weather. Everyone was inside. Once again the bars were full and finding a seat was difficult. Not only that but there was a distinct lack of drink menus in any of the bars. There are now drinks men’s on most tables but the bar servers are still missing. Perhaps they abandoned ship before the started its season in Southampton knowing what some Brits are like with tipping!!! We’re going to dinner now, I’ll update tomorrow. Any questions? Ask away.
  10. Looks like the balcony might have an view issue one way because it seems to be the first cabin next to the hump area. Have never been on this ship and haven't cruised RC in a very long time. Any cabin advice appreciated, for this cabin, or in general. Particularly interested in a quiet sleep situation as we are light sleepers. Thank you so very much!
  11. We will be taking a private shuttle service from London to Southampton and would love to avoid the crowds. What time can you board in Southampton? The ship sails at 4:30 p.m.
  12. We were thinking of booking two of the new cabins 8443 and 8445 on Independence. Since they are close to the stairs and the elevator we were wondering if it's noisy. Are those cabins newer than the other inside cabins?
  13. Hi CC. I am due to go on the Indie at the end of June and was wondering if anyone has recently sailed on her and if so what was it like? Is it still in good repair? Food okay? Service? Etc
  14. I am struggling to find customer photos, videos, comments on the family stateroom 2309 on indepence of the seas. Can anyone help? TIA
  15. Anyone got any info on time frame of Independence (coco-cay ) sailings , if they will continue all western or east also. We are on the 4-27-20 sailing and wouldn't mind picking up a back to back. Bob
  16. Going on the Indy in August and just wondered about trying the Skypad? Have looked on YouTube but it doesn't really give me any idea if my husband and I would enjoy it or not. We are both 50+. Any thoughts/advice gratefully received!
  17. Most cruise-ships I have been on have a seldom used or known of door that leads to an outside deck. Is there any secrets on Independence of the Seas? Spa question: Is the steam room open to all guests or is it pay to use?
  18. Has any received the FCC 25% off of their cancelled Independence of the Seas cruises from either RCC or their travel agents.
  19. We're back! Our cruise was 4/29-5/4. It was hubby and I plus our 4 kids (15, 12, 7, 3). I'll try to keep this short and sweet. 😉 Check in was fairly easy. Our stateroom wasn't what we expected. We originally were going to book 2 connecting oceanviews, but went with the advice of costumer service and got a room that should fit all 6 of us! It was category 1k, suppose to be 351sqft. It was decent but smaller than expected and having 2 bathrooms would've been better. Beds were super hard, and no fan for white noise. 😕 The view out the front of the ship was amazing though! Food was ok, desserts were awesome. Windjammer is crowded at times but there's plenty of seating. Only complaint is buffet isn't open late enough. Activities were unfortunately lacking. They had more activities offered during port days which made no sense obviously. Then there would be things going on during the times the kids rooms were closed. Adult shows were often after 10pm, when you would get charged for using the kids rooms (which we didn't do). The last night, there was a farewell comedian in the Royal Theater at 7:15. He was done a little before 8pm. We took our 2 older kids to our room to get their bathing suits on, they went to the pool. Hubby and I went right back down to the Star lounge for an adult show (finally something we could go to). Well, we get there and there's no seats and people were standing! They know this is a popular show, why not have it in the theater?? So we left. 😞 Excursions....in Costa Maya we did the Chacchoben ruins, booked through Native Choice. We really liked it! However, I wouldn't recommend for kids under 10. They just don't care, lol. One of our tour guides were awesome...he kept an eye on our little one so hubby and I could somewhat pay attention to our other guide. Highly recommend them. In Cozumel, we took the ferry to Playa del Carmen and went to Xcaret. The ferry wasn't bad, 45mins and then a bus ride which was maybe 10-15mins. Xcaret was nice, but again wouldn't recommend with young ones if you plan on doing the river. Our 7 year old did good but our 3 year old, no. We didn't know until just before hopping in the "cold" water while signing the waiver that you can't touch bottom. So we had to not only swim, but take turns swimming while holding a 3 year old. Fun! And, there's bats in the caves!! I'm glad we experienced it, but wouldn't do again. The rest of the park was nice and well taken care of. Took the advice of the tour guide on where to eat, he even walked us there, and he must've known the owner because we ended up spending $100. But unfortunately couldn't find menus with prices before our trip, so oh well. All in all it was a great trip! Would I do RC again, not sure. The ship was just too big and confusing. Sorry to say, but Carnival are called the fun ships for a reason. 😉 However, the Independence is a beautiful ship, I just would prefer a smaller ship. P.S. We got to see the Carnival Fantasy again! Sailed on her 5 years ago. Was docked right next to us, it was cool.
  20. My adult daughter and I just got off a cruise on the Independence. First of all, I paid more for this 5 day cruise than some 7 day ones. Embarkation was slower than slow. Im Diamond plus and and was shown no consideration. They corral you into a seating area and we waited 1.5 hours to board. On boarding, the first thing I noticed was dirty rugs and scuffed floors. Not a good first impression. We found a seat on deck to sun in at 8:00 am and went to eat for approximately 15 minutes. When we returned, pool staffed had placed s chain with a sign saying, reserved for suite guests. Well, the sign was not there when we first came but they proceeded to throw us out ( Im Diamond plus remember). At this point the deck was crowded. So much for the no reserving seats rule. Let me see, this was my 40th cruise. Im sure Ive spent as much as suite guests. If you’re going to have a rule, it should apply to everyone. Staff was great. The food was ok, not exceptional. The drinks are getting way too expensive. But I think they do this to push you towards purchasing a package. Plus, the drinks seemed watered down. Looks like I need to reconsider where my loyalty lies.
  21. Hi all! Planning our first family cruise and we booked cabin 1100, one of the new rooms from what I’ve gathered. It appears that this single cabin exists only on the independence, but I could be wrong. Has anyone stayed in this 1L Panoramic Ocean View room? The pictures I’ve seen online are definitely incorrect and the representative at Royal Caribbean said the room is larger than the 175 feet listed but she had no idea the actual size. We sail in December so I’ll be sure to take pictures to share!
  22. Hi Royal Caribbean Experts, We will be on Independence of the Seas this summer and want to know what the bathroom amentities will be. Are the shampoo/conditioner/bath gel "on the shower wall"? Are there other products other than possibly soap provided? Thanks for all your assistance.
  23. The deluxe drink package has now dropped from £47 to £38....big saving.
  24. Hi everyone, Can anyone confirm, is there a sauna and steam room free of charge? If so where is this on the ship? Thanks in advance.
  25. Does anyone have a recent cruise compass for a 5 day cruise that they can post...also what night is lobster night on a 5 night cruise on Independence..thanks
