  1. From Cruise Industry News, a first look at the stretched Star Breeze on her sea trials. Can’t wait to hear more.
  2. Spirit leaves for Lautoka from PPT on 11/11/21 and on to Australia and Indonesia. Arrives back in PPT on 4/7/22. Breeze departs from San Diego for PPT on 10/30/21 heads back to SD on 4/7/22. (Lucky you Deb, you could just roll out of bed on 10/30/21 head for the harbor and be on your way!) Looks like Breeze PPT to SD on 4/7/22 may be chartered.
  3. The Fincantieri shipyard doing the Breeze refit announced this week that they will extend further the current two week work stoppage. This is in response to an Italian government decree and there was no guidance how long the extension would last. This obviously could impact the planned initial sailings of the ship in June as well as potentially delaying the next refit scheduled for the Legend. If port closures continue this all may be academic. Worrying about cruising may seem callous and superficial in view of the pain being experienced by far too many of our fellow citizens, but as we are all stuck at home, or should be, keeping up to date on Windstar is ONE of my chosen diversions. Be nice!
  4. Looks like they’ve posted a few of the new Star Breeze Med itineraries. Starting 7/31/20 Athens to Istanbul. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
  5. Looks like that according to most recent Coronavirus update from Windstar, not only will they monitor the temperature of incoming guests but they have decided to not deploy the Star Breeze to Asia from Aug 25th to November 29th 2020. Wow after cancelling cruises due to asbestos issues, now they have to re-route the Star Breeze for 3 months. Ouch, not a good year for Windstar Here is the memo posted on their website. FAQs: Novel Coronavirus 2019-nCoV Is Windstar currently sailing in any areas with confirmed cases of coronavirus? No. We are currently not sailing to any areas with reported cases. Is Windstar making any changes to deployment as a result of coronavirus? Windstar Cruises will cancel the Star Breeze’s 2020 Asia program. We regret the inconvenience to booked guests on these sailings which were scheduled to depart August 25 through November 29, 2020. Our team is working on communicating this change and alternatives to our guests and travel advisor partners. New sailings for the Star Breeze during this same time period will be announced soon. We are not making any changes to our spring 2021 Asia deployment at this time. What are Coronaviruses? Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that usually cause respiratory illness. A new (novel) CoV was identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019 and is called 2019-nCoV. What is the current situation? The new coronavirus is causing an outbreak of illness in the city of Wuhan, China. Additional cases have been confirmed in other countries including the United States. The situation remains fluid. Stay up to date by visiting the Centers for Disease Control’s website. What are the symptoms of 2019-nCoV Signs of infection may include respiratory symptoms, such as fever or feverishness, cough, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties. How is the virus transmitted? Health authorities say it can be passed from one person to another through close contact, such as caring for or living with an ill person. How can I minimize the risk of catching or spreading a respiratory illness? The Center for Disease Control (CDC) always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses: • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after using the restroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty. • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. • Avoid close contact with people who are sick, including sharing cups or eating utensils. • Stay home when you are sick. • Cover your cough or sneeze: cough or sneeze into your elbow, or cover with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe. What are the treatments? There is no specific antiviral treatment recommended for the new coronavirus infection. Individuals with respiratory infections should seek medical care to help relieve symptoms. Is the new Coronavirus the same as SARS or MERS viruses? It is a similar type but not the same virus that caused SARS or MERS. What is the preventive action Windstar has taken? Along with other Cruise Lines International Association member cruise lines, Windstar Cruises now requires each guest and crew member to fill out a health questionnaire specific to coronavirus prior to boarding the ship and undergo a no touch thermal scan to screen for fever. Anyone with a fever (≥38 C°/100.4 F°) will not be allowed to board the ship. The sanitation levels on all ships are being elevated. Guests or crew who have been in or travelled from or through China, Hong Kong or Macau in the 30 days prior to embarkation are not being allowed to board the vessel. Guests who within 30 days before embarkation have had close contact with, or helped care for, anyone suspected or diagnosed as having Coronavirus, or who are currently subject to health monitoring for possible exposure to Coronavirus, are not being allowed to board the vessel. Additionally, all crew travel through mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau has been suspended. If you experience any symptoms of illness while on board, please stay in your cabin and contact the Medical Center. Medical visitation fees are currently waived on board Windstar Cruises’ ships for guests presenting with symptoms of the coronavirus. If you develop symptoms after leaving the ship, see a doctor right away. 2/12/2020e
  6. Anyone have any info when it will actually leave and start sea trials or cruises? Been there for an extremely Long time . I heard why, but anyone got a firm time when it will be actually ready? Just checked current position and it is still there in dry dock. Tough for those who might want to book cruises aboard .
  7. Hi, Just got the email via my TA. Options are rebook on another cruise and get any non-refundable arrangements refunded 100%, price protection on the booking (not exactly sure what that means since it is limited to region and duration but my duration was a back-to-back and my region is a trans Atlantic so booking another one is not really easy.) Plus a 20% credit on a future cruise and $100 shipboard credit. The best choice except there is nothing remotely similar being offered by Windstar at the time of this cruise. OR (the poor choice) 100% refund, plus up to $350 of my non-refundable travel arrangements, plus a 10% discount. My trip insurance was over 3x the amount they are covering, my US to home flights are non-refundable and I'm not sure what it will cost to cancel my flights (partially refundable, I'll put the cancellation in tomorrow.) Thoughts? Experiences with previous cruise cancellations?

  9. The Breeze is now in Lisbon, the last port before the lengthening. When we talked to the crew in September they were all excited. Some are staying on for the trip to Sicily to help get her prepared, some are headed home today for about four months off, most are planning to return, including most likely the captain, some staff will stay with her during the lengthening. Afterwards some return early to get things finished and prepared, others return closer to the first trip - I believe from Barcelona on 2/20/20. Out crew in August/September was the best ever and I hope to see most of them in Alaska in June. I’d love to hear reports if anyone was on board. Anything special? Was the last day “clean out the fridge” day for meals? Was the crew distracted? Or was it just all normal.
  10. Looking forward to experiencing the caring service and superb amenities of the Star Breeze on her transpacific cruise, embarking from Seward, Alaska on August 25, 2020 and disembarking in Yokohama, Japan on September 10, 2020. https://www.windstarcruises.com/starplus/
  11. We are thinking about booking two TA cruises. Star Legend from San Juan to Lisbon end of Jan. 2020, and Star Breeze from Lisbon to Miami end of Feb. 2020. We have heard that both ships are headed for refurbishment around that time. Does anyone know when these refurbishments will take place and how they may impact these two cruises?
  12. Embarked in Copenhagen then on to Bergen, Geiranger, Hellesylt, Alesund, Lerwick, Kirkwall, Torshavn, and Reykjvik. Great time, great crew, best food I've had on a ship! 3rd Windstar cruise, over 30 on mostly mainstream lines. https://youtu.be/qe1bGkAmU2c
  13. I know the roll calls are lightly used, so apologies for posting here, but I have two roll calls going for these two itins with zero traffic. Maybe we'll be utterly alone!! If anyone is on either of these please take a look, I have two private tours listed that I have room for others to join, sharing the fixed cost, and would also welcome other traffic on those two threads. . Or just email me windstarpig@gmail.com
  14. In another week or so, we're off to do the Star Breeze around Iceland. Very excited about it! My only experience on Windstar was years ago on the WindSurf We've never been on the little yachts. Since we know nothing of the ship or Iceland other than a few snippets from CC, if anyone can tell us a little about the ship, what to expect, anything special not to miss, we'd appreciate it. Thank you in advance, Linda
  15. I'm considering "midnight sun" itineraries offered on Star Breeze and Star Pride. I'd appreciate any thoughts from recent sailors about the condition/maintenance of these two ships. I realize they're about the same age, but the reviews I've read make it tricky to figure out if one ship is in markedly better shape than the other. I did a Baltic cruise on the Pride when she was still being operated by Seabourn, so I'm familiar with the ships' layout. It sounds as if both ships are scheduled to be "stretched" in the near future to add additional suites. Thanks in advance for any advice/opinions.
  16. Windstar is spending $256 million to stretch and modernize these ships. See the following article. https://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/19952-windstar-to-stretch-three-ships-in-250-million-refurbishment.html
  17. Hi, We will be visiting Iceland in July aboard the Star Breeze and have a couple of questions for anyone who has been on this cruise before. I'm pretty set on what I need to pack for the daytime but I'm not sure what people wear for dinner? I know that usually women wear summery dresses, sandals and the like but given that it's not that warm, I'm not sure what to pack?! Also, which ports can we get away with touring on our own and which should we stick to the organized excursions? Any other useful tips would be greatly appreciated!! We're so excited!! Thanks!!!
  18. I'm assuming that wifi isn't included on Windstar. We're doing the "round Iceland" itinerary. Any idea of cost for a week? Is it worth it?
  19. It's been a very long time since I've been on Windstar. It was way back when there were only the sailing yachts, which we loved. I'm now thinking about the "round" Iceland trip as something different for a mother/daughter trip. Elizabeth is 35, very athletic and I'm 72, somewhat less sproty, but I would give it a good try...haha! My husband and I have done all of the lux lines with the exception of Seabourn and have been happy. E is also a Crystal/Regent vet. I guess what concerns me is that the ship is due for a dry dock very soon. Is the ship "beat"? Is it single seating in the dining room? How is the cocktail culture? Interesting choices? Wine list? I realize that alcohol isn't included although there is a beverage package....a little pricey, I think.... Would love to hear someones thoughts on a similar itinerary/ship. Thanks very much!
