I don't know why I didn't get notified of this post! I'm subscribed to this thread - I'm so happy I checked it again! I'm so excited for this game! Thank you for checking on it for me :)

The next question is, do you know where I could buy tickets??

Apparently, tickets for your game won't be released for another month.

Release date is March 12th at 14.00 (13.00 GMT/UTC, 8am US east coast time).

Al, we have two and a half days in Stockholm before our cruise in July. I'm trying to decide if we should take one of those days and go to Grinda, Sandhamm or Vaxholm. Or, would we be better just staying in STockholm the whole time?

Thanks.

Wow, this post is five years old! It doesn't look like anyone responded and I have the same question for my upcoming two and a half days in Stockholm this June. Thanks in advance for any responses.

I won't tell you what to do since that is your decision, I can only give you recommendations/inputs.

You can read more about those three destinations here:

http://www.waxholmsbolaget.com/visitor/resa/resmal/grinda/

http://www.waxholmsbolaget.com/visitor/resa/resmal/vaxholm/

http://www.waxholmsbolaget.com/visitor/resa/resmal/sandhamn/

http://www.stromma.se/en/Skargard/Cinderella-Boats/Day-trips/Sandhamn/

Sandhamn is situated in the "outer rims" of the archipelago and it takes almost 3 hours to get there by boat from central Stockholm.

The distance to Vaxholm from central Stockholm is about 50 Km.

We need to arrange for pick up at our ship in Frihamnan (Serenade of the Seas, June 28th) and I'm hoping to find someone that can do pick up, a half day tour, and then drop off at our hotel. Any suggestions?

If not, is it easy to get a taxi at debarkation? If we taxied to our hotel, I am sure they would hold our bags until we could check.

Thanks!

I think that there might be difficult getting a taxi if you don't pre-book it. There lots of other passengers thinking the same as you regarding the taxi at disembarkation.

Sure thing.

It is located here: https://www.google.se/maps/place/Millesg%C3%A5rden/@59.3561279,18.1122554,1860m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x465f82d337d009bd:0xd2f69d03f00b3954

From where are you planning on going there?

There are several ways on getting there are either to go with bus #203 towards Larsberg from Ropsten and get off at Millesgården. Ropsten:

https://www.google.se/maps/place/Ropsten+T-bana/@59.3568055,18.1041153,930m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x465f9d301e213c4b:0xa9af164af3c2a1ca

How to get to Ropsten depends on from where you are planning on departing.

There's always subway Red line #13 to Ropsten. http://sl.se/ficktid/vinter/vtbana.pdf

Another option is Sjövägen harbour boat buses. SJövägen from Nybroplan to Lindgö Larsbergs Brygga.

http://www.sjovagen.nu/web/page.aspx?refid=2

From there bus 203 towards Ropsten, get off at Foresta.

We will be staying at the Courtyard Marriott on July 25th, then boarding the RCCL Serenade of the Seas on the 26th and overnighting on the ship. These hints from you are perfect and I appreciate it VERY much!! I started with the most recent post and am moving backward... not sure I'll make it to post #1, but I really do appreciate your insight!! If you ever come to Oklahoma, I'll be happy to help you :)

If you want to go from your ship, you could either walk or go by bus (#76 Roptsen) to Ropsten.

From your hotel the easiest would be to go with the subway from Fridhemsplan, Blue line #10 or #11 towards Kungstrådgården.

Change to Red line #13 to Ropsten at T-centralen.

From Fridhemsplan you could also go with Green line #17, #18 or #19 towards Skarpnäck, Farsta strand or Hagsätra.

You would then have three places, T-centralen, Gamla Stan or Slussen, where could change to #13 Red Line.

Buses requires that you have pre-bought tickets before you board the bus,

for subway you can usually buy tickets at the turn stiles.

I would recommend you to buy a 48 hour travel pass from sl.se (see link one or a few pages back)

What a wealth of information on this thread! I've only gone through 10 pages so far; thank god for the 'search' button!

We are planning a post-cruise 4-night stay in Stockholm in July, and struggling to select a hotel. We want to see the typical tourist attractions, but be close to a variety of restaurants for breakfast and dinner. We prefer to walk and take public transportation everywhere.

We found 4 well-reviewed hotels with comparable-sized rooms (~25 sq meters) at comparable, reasonable prices (~$175), but there all in different neighborhoods. Where do you think is the best place to stay? Here's what we're debating:

Miss Clara, in Vasastaden

Radisson Blu Waterfront, Norrmalm

Mornington Stockholm City, Ostermalm

Rival Hotel, Sodermalm

Thanks so much for your help!

Regarding breakfast, most hotels have a breakfast buffet induced in the room prize.

Besides there aren't much else open that early in the morning.

As for the hotels, Miss Clara is the one furthest (or least closest) from the main sights (about 20 min walk to the Royal Palace).

As for the other three, Radisson is closest to Gamla Stan and about equally as close to Vasa as Mornington.

Rival is much further away from Vasa then the others but is quite close to Gamla Stan/the harbour ferries to Djurgården/Vasa as well as close to lovely Södermalm.

Södermalm is a bit hip and trendy at the moment, especially the SoFo area.

Östermalm and Vasastan are both a mix of residential and offices although Östermalm is a mainly upper class residential area.

Norrmalm is the central shopping/leisure district.

It's a difficult choice since all have their pros and cons.

The only advice I can give you is to look the hotels up on google maps or an equivalent map service and check the distances from the things you are planning on see/do.

I'm adding a few of my thoughts (I'm from Finland but I have visited Stockholm many many times).

Miss Clara, in Vasastaden

Not a bad location, just north of the commercial center and close to a subway station. Two blocks down to Hötorget that opens up to Drottninggatan, the major pedestrian street. Hotel is on a major street so traffic noice might be a problem?

Radisson Blu Waterfront, Norrmalm

Centrally located in the modern blocks surrounding the railway station. (Personally I don't like the concrete/glass jungle there but that's a matter of taste). Certainly the most modern hotel of the four. Just walk over the viaduct and you are in the city commercial center. A bit away from the subway but buses are passing nearby.

Mornington Stockholm City, Östermalm

A bit on the side from the main streets up on a hill in what considered to be a upper class neighbourhood. Guess it might be the quietest of the four options? A subway station entrance is just about a block away (even if it is not shown at the Google maps for some reason). Not far from Stureplan with the most exclusive shops and restaurants of the city.

Rival Hotel, Södermalm

In a former lower class neihbourhood that recently have become popular. The problem here is the rather messy Slussen road junction separates the district from the rest of the city so using the subway is really a MUST. Luckly there is a subway stop nearby.

As for tickets to Vasa, you neither can or need to get tickets to Vasa before you go there.

Regarding getting from your hotel to the ship, you could either go with a taxi or with bus #76 towards Ropsten, get off at Frihamnen.

The latter option is departing from Nybroplan which is about 350m from your hotel.

https://www.google.se/maps/dir/Teatergatan+3,+111+48+Stockholm/59.3326764,18.0764829/@59.3323174,18.0761265,18z/data=!4m9!4m8!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f9d5992b9f53f:0x8ae3ae50e4cdb86a!2m2!1d18.0773833!2d59.3302959!1m0!3e2

Taxi will be the fastest way (10-15 minutes), bus will take slightly longer (15-20 minutes)

I do think visiting Vaxholm is a good idea, just make sure that you check-in early-enough so that you make it back to Strömkajen by 10-15 minutes before when the boat to Vaxholm departs at 12.00 If the weather is warm and/or sunny you might need to be seven earlier if you want to find a nice place to sit on the outer deck

Bus #76 would be the best option for transport from the cruise ship to the Vaxholm boat.

https://www.google.se/maps/dir/Frihamnspiren,+Frihamnsgatan+68,+115+56+Stockholm/Stockholm+Str%C3%B6mkajen/@59.3363846,18.092401,15z/data=!4m17!4m16!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f82c8bd19fccd:0x303efb9cad343466!2m2!1d18.125553!2d59.34411!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f9d59baa32841:0x7d345217af47e90c!2m2!1d18.075437!2d59.329193!2m2!4e3!5e0!3e3

As for weather and clothes. The weather at the end of May be both warm or cold. It's impossible to say this far in advance.

The average day temperature is almost 16C (60F) so I think you'll be fine with jeans but if the weather is cold you might need a warm jacket. Especially for the boat trips.

However so far the winter up here have been very mild and this means that the water temperature will be slightly warmer then average which means that the water won't cool off the air as much as normal.

Just check the weather forecasts at SMHI a few days before you leave to decide if you need some extra warm clothes.

@jmccurdy,

IMO you will see the most important things such as Vasa, Old Town, the Royal Palace, the City hall...

Then you have planned "bonus" activities such as Vaxholm, under the bridges tour, Djurgården island...

The only thing I would change is to make use of the 29th as well.

Perhaps stroll around Södermalm for a few hours?

There are superb views of Stockholm from both Monteliusvägen and from Katarinavägen/Fjällgatan.

Skinnarviksberget also offers a fantastic view of Stockholm.

http://www.visitstockholm.com/en/Search/?areas=1

http://www.visitstockholm.com/en/See--do/Guides/District-guide-Sodermalm/

The easiest way of getting to Södermalm is to go with bus #76 from Frihamnen towards Norra Hammarbyhamnen, get off at Slussen.

Location of Monteliusvägen: https://www.google.se/maps/dir/59.3200372,18.0573754/59.3203449,18.0634641/@59.3224777,18.064016,16z/data=!4m9!4m8!1m5!3m4!1m2!1d18.0588918!2d59.3206305!3s0x465f77e6b9a38d0d:0xa3e6f61e0c3d03f8!1m0!3e2

Location of Skinnarviksberget: https://www.google.se/maps/search/Skinnarviksberget/@59.3195057,18.0532473,518m/data=!3m1!1e3

Location of Katarinavägen/Fjällgatan: https://www.google.se/maps/dir/59.3187136,18.0780413/59.3171278,18.0894757/@59.3196976,18.0824006,15z/data=!4m2!4m1!3e2

Then at Södermalmtorg you could enjoy a quick lunch, fried Herring with mashed potatoes, bought from Strömmingsvagnen.

If you are more of a museum person, the Hallwylska museet could perhaps be of interest? http://hallwylskamuseet.se/en

It is located at Hamngatan 4; http://hallwylskamuseet.se/sv/besok/oppettider-och-priser

Hello! Thanks for all of this wonderful information! I have a couple of questions -

Can we buy 24 or 72 hour travel cards before our trip? If not, how do we buy bus tickets before we board the bus 76 from Frihamnen to the Vasa museum?

We will be in Stockholm for 2 days and want to visit Vaxholm or Fjäderholmarna on the 2nd day in the afternoon. I understand Fjäderholmarna is smaller and a shorter boat ride, but is it worth it to go the further distance to Vaxholm? I like the idea of the crafts market in Fjäderholmarna - do they have something similar in Vaxholm?

Thanks!!!

@Kryssa yes you can buy travelcards in advance. See this post: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=45564440&postcount=1932

Bus tickets are also sold at the cruise terminals.

I have never been to Fjäderholmarna but it is very small and besides the few craftsmen I don't think there is much to see.

Vaxholm is a small town with some shops but not so many craftsmen, somewhere you go to stroll around the old wooden buildings.

Hello Desdichado62, I am certain that you have been asked this question many times and I have been earnestly trying to find the answer within your many posts. My ship will be tendering in Nynashamn on a Monday from 7am to 7pm. I have gathered that I can actually walk frpm the pier to the train station and get the train into the the city. It will cost be 115 Swedish dollars and will take 44 minutes. My question is about the transfer. I want to visit the following 3 places only; Vasa museum, Old town and the ice bar. But I can't seem to see where is my transfer point onceI get to Central station. Please help if you can. Thanks Sam.

My question is about the transfer. I want to visit the following 3 places only; Vasa museum, Old town and the ice bar.

But I can't seem to see where is my transfer point once I get to Central station. Please help if you can. Thanks Sam.

What do you mean by transfer point?

I would obviously start with Vasa since it can get pretty crowded later in the day.

The easiest way to get there is to walk to Sergelstorg.

https://www.google.se/maps/dir/Stockholms+Centralstation,+Centralplan+15,+111+20+Stockholm/59.3326027,18.0661418/@59.3315596,18.0629497,17z/data=!3m1!5s0x465f9d606478b71f:0x6c1168e3223d84bb!4m9!4m8!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f9d60f602f26d:0x97c553dab672ba3d!2m2!1d18.057932!2d59.330668!1m0!3e2

From there go with tram #7 towards DJURGÅRDEN Waldemarsudde get off at Nordiska museet/Vasamuseet or Djrugårdsbron and follow the signs to Vasa.

https://www.google.se/maps/dir/59.3293124,18.0955388/Vasamuseet,+Gal%C3%A4rvarvsv%C3%A4gen,+Stockholm/@59.3297227,18.0904448,17z/data=!3m1!5s0x465f9d606478b71f:0x6c1168e3223d84bb!4m9!4m8!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f9d546d8329af:0xcff09af1b4c13241!2m2!1d18.091396!2d59.328023!3e2

You could also go with bus 69 from Sergels torg towards Blockhusudden or 69K towards Kaknästornet, get off at Djurgårdsbron, walk across the bridge/follow the signs to get to Vasa.

https://www.google.se/maps/dir/Djurg%C3%A5rdsbron,+Stockholm/Vasamuseet,+Gal%C3%A4rvarvsv%C3%A4gen,+Stockholm/@59.3297227,18.0904448,17z/data=!3m2!4b1!5s0x465f9d606478b71f:0x6c1168e3223d84bb!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f9d53b712a1e9:0x939d59800aa07a11!2m2!1d18.0936964!2d59.3314169!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f9d546d8329af:0xcff09af1b4c13241!2m2!1d18.091396!2d59.328023!3e2

Then from Vasa to Old Town, either go with Djurgårdsfärjan to the southern tip of the Old town or walk back across Djurgårdsbron and take bus #76 towards Norra Hammarbyhamnen, get off at Slottsbacken.

From Vasa to Djurgårdsfärjan: http://kartor.eniro.se/m/w8ag8

http://www.waxholmsbolaget.se/visitor/djurgarden-ferry/maps-ferry-terminals/

From Old Town to Ice Bar, use bus #53 towards Roslagstull from Kornhamnstorg to Kungsgatan stop.

https://www.google.se/maps/place/Kornhamnstorg/@59.3327161,18.0589194,18z/data=!4m20!1m17!4m16!1m6!1m2!1s0x465f77e3197c91e3:0x3568ea1327a481b7!2sKornhamnstorg!2m2!1d18.071059!2d59.322561!1m6!1m2!1s0x465f9d60e5c4c319:0x1a4bbe94188be077!2sVasaplan+4,+111+20+Stockholm!2m2!1d18.056837!2d59.3322291!3e3!5i1!3m1!1s0x465f77e3197c91e3:0x3568ea1327a481b7

Since you mention the price of 115SEK. I assume that you plan on buying a 24 hour travel card?

In that case it is also valid on Djugårdsfärjan.

When you disembark the train, head towards the exit for "Klarabergsviadukten" or "kungsbron"

That would bring you here: https://www.google.se/maps/@59.330825,18.057188,3a,49.8y,85.55h,93.3t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sTnjU90LgN90v9SaT-tVTqw!2e0!6m1!1e1

Then just follow this road all the way down and then when you get to the plaza make a slight right turn and the tram stop is a few 100m straight ahead (in the middle of the road).

Then just follow the instructions in my previous post.

Desdichado62, is there any type of car service to handle transfers from our hotel (Hilton Slussem) to the cruise port? We have found these in other ports but so far my searches turn up little of value to us. Our group is 4 now but could grow to 10.

There are a car service in Stockholm, they're called Freys Hyrverk and they are a purveyor to the Swedish Royal Court.
