Oceania's Free Shuttles List

I won't be on Oceania when I visit these cities, but if someone could give me some clues as to what the docking/tendering/closeness of location might be, I'd love it. I'm going to Naples, Cagliari, and Trapani - and possibly Algiers if it's not cancelled.

We were in Trapani on an independent land trip in April 2017. We saw the Prinsendam docked right near the center of town. Trapani isn't that big.

Will be on Insignia in Aug. Is there a shuttle from the port to anywhere in Boston? Thanks.

There are earlier posts in this thread saying that there is one that takes you to Faneuil Hall. I'll let you know after Sunday :). Of course, you've likely left by now but it should be in the master list.

That's where we were taken a year ago. Very convenient.

Sorry if I come off negative but how are we supposed to plan excursions? They don't tell us exactly where they will be arriving. They don't tell us which places will have a shuttle and if they do will not say where it goes to;

Free shuttle busses are offered when:

The ship is docked a long walk from the main thoroughfare

Taxis and or public transportation are not easily accessible from the port. .

The port is industrial and not pedestrian-friendly. The decision on whether free buses will be offered will be based on the port used and will be made closer to or during the sailing

Once on board, a list of ports that will offer a complimentary shuttle into town will be provided.

This does not answer my question. When I plan a business trip I know exactly what airport I am arriving at and what transportation is needed to get to my destination. Why is cruising need to be so complicated?

When I plan my own excursions I make my plans based on there probably won't be a shuttle. Problem solved.

When I do a ship's excursion I know Oceania will get me there and back.

If I'm on my own and there is a shuttle then I figure it's a bonus.

The bottom line is most of these shuttles are provided by the local visitors bureaus etc. and not by Oceania.

My planning is similar to ORV's. I research a lot, determine where we're likely to dock. The latter can vary from cruise to cruise, as the port decides the location, with often not much time in advance. Then I try to determine if there's likely to be a shuttle, based on past reports, and info from port websites. I'm prepared for other scenarios - i.e., we are assigned to dock in an oddball location (has happened before) or it's New Year's Day and everything is closed (probably going to happen on next cruise), etc. It's pretty rare when you pull into port and see NO cabs, so I use cabs as one of my backup plans. I also take public transportation if necessary. I love to plan, so it's all a big adventure for me - and I've learned to not be shy in emailing tourist bureaus, port authorities, and bus sites to get the information I need.

I'm happy when there's a shuttle, and especially happy when the shuttle is free, as many cruisers report they had to pay for shuttles. I'm also happy when the shuttle runs very soon after the cruise ship is tied up and opens up its doors. Not all shuttles do, and I'm usually anxious to get going right away!

I would just learn what you can, and plan as best as you can, but allow a little bit of time and money in case that shuttle that someone reported in a particular city three years ago isn't available on the day you're there. I personally love to do things on my own as opposed to taking a ship's excursion or arranging my own excursion, but if something sounds too hard or stressful, I'll just take the easy/safe route and go with a ship or private excursion.

if you look at post #404 most people have posted where the shuttle drops you off or if there is a shuttle at all

In any case the shuttles do not go too far from the port just to the city centre usually

You could always ask in the forum if people have docked there before & where the shuttle dropped them

ROME:  Just in case anyone's going to Civitavecchia (for Rome): port situation is a little different from when we visited Civi 5 or 6 years ago. Yes, the port provides a shuttle from Civi to and from the ships, but where the shuttle now drops is a little farther from the center of town than before.  This makes it a little harder to get to and from the Civi train station, and more likely you'll need to take a taxi or walk farther than before. If you want to go into town (Civi) you can take the shuttle to the fort and walk.  Information in Ports of Call, Tom's Port Guide, or googling something like "Civitavecchia port mobility bus" should help.

We were in Venice Oct 31- Nov 2, 2018 and there was no free shuttle to San Marco.  There is a free bus shuttle within the port to bring you to Cruise Terminal 103.  Either book the Alilaguna water taxi that will take you to San Marco from Cruise Terminal 103 or walk over to the People Mover to get to Piazzale Roma & then take one of the Vaporettos.  We did Alilaguna since it was located right at the Cruise terminal

Hello, I'm wondering if someone can re-confirm that Oceania does indeed run a shuttle in Sydney. We are on the Regatta Jan 30th cruise 2019 and are planning tours  and need to know where to meet. It looks like  White Bay terminal is where we dock, although Oceania is claiming that it will be at OPTerminal.

@rhohea - We cruised in 2016 through Iceland and on to the Faroe's so I can only comment on three of your ports.

Akureyri, Iceland - No need for a shuttle, you dock very close to town which is under a 10 minute walk, though the main shopping street is closer to a 20 minute walk up hill from the port.  Our excursion dropped us in the shopping area at the end and we had a pleasant walk back to the ship.

Reykyavik, Iceland - We boarded here, but talking to pax who were continuing on there was a free shuttle into town.  It's some distance to the main attractions from the cruise port.

Isafjordur, Iceland - No need for a shuttle, you dock directly in town which you can walk all of in under an hour.  It's a tiny town but charming.  There would be plenty of time to do an excursion then walk the town on your own.

Regarding BERGEN, when we were there in 2017 on another line, we were in Bergen a full day and then disembarked the next.  I don't think there was a shuttle, but perhaps none is needed for most people, assuming most ships dock in same area.  I just walked along the water to the Bryggen (spelling?) section of the city. It was  a nice, fairly scenic walk along the water - maybe 15 minutes at a normal, unhurried pace, but perhaps others can chime in. There was a very busy tourist information center around the same area, and vendors for food and trinkets.

Yes, we were on Viking in 2018 & the dock was in walking distance of the main wharf, about a 15 minute walk - there was no need for a shuttle.
