I just got this news release from the Port of Seattle concerning upgrades to TSA screening at Sea-Tac airport. It might be of interest to those who are flying out of Sea-Tac. https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/WASEATTLEPORT/bulletins/1e6e4d1

I don't think it actually speeds things up (I think it is all about reducing labor cost).

If you really want to speed through security at SEA get CLEAR + TSA PRE...even if TSA is complete pandemonium you will be through in less than 5 minutes.

Way I read it not much benefit to us normal travelers. Stuff still goes in a bin and you gotta wait for it to come out. More of a benefit for TSA workers who don't have to collect and move bins around.

I looked at CLEAR and it's expensive and not at many airports.

What is CLEAR?

Roz

CLEAR is a bio-metric screening process with a separate line. Once you verify on a CLEAR kiosk you are escorted to past the TSA ID check designated by your ticket (so PRE if you are precheck or regular xray/metal if you are not). It is is most major airports now (especially Delta heavy airports) and on the rare occasion kiosk isn't immediately available at most I am just waiting for 1 person.

I signed up in a Delta Sky Club but I think you can sign up at the TSA kiosks as well.

I even got an email a few days ago that there is a CLEAR line to get into Safeco field (Mariners). I am not completely sure how that will work but I will definitely try it out :).

I just looked it up...it is $179 + $50 for each additional family member. Delta gives discounts to their mileage members (Diamond is complementary) and if anyone is interested I get offers of 3 month guest passes for friends and family (I assume they have you sign up and they will start charging after 3 months if you don't opt out).

$179 per year for 19 airports? I guess if you fly a lot from one of those airports it's worth it. I think my TSA Pre-Check is a better buy and I don't wait much for screening with it.

Wouldn’t be worth it to me either, but I do like my TSA precheck also.

(I’m orginally from Stockton, then later to SD and now PNW) I will be back in Stockton next year for a class reunion)

Yeah...I don't know if I would have paid $179 for it either but in combo with PRE it sure makes getting through security a breeze.
