time to clear customs & immigration in Sydney?

Our ship is scheduled to stop in Sydney, first Canadian port after leaving Boston. Scheduled arrival is 8:00 a.m.

 

Anyone have any idea what is the earliest I should expect to be able to pick up a rental car?

Do we have to clear Customs & Immigration in Sydney or do the Canadian officials come onboard at the previous U.S. port to process passengers on the sea day in between?
