Does guarantee cabin on deck 7 mean cabin is guaranteed on deck

This is out first cruise to Alask on HAL Volendum may 16- on booking we have choice of cabin selection on 3 rd deck on HAL volendum or guarantee on deck 7 - would love deck 7 but not sure how guarantee works. Worth taking chance

Usually it means you will get the category you paid for or better

If there are no cabins in your chosen cat you can end up anywhere on the ship

GTY just means you are on the cruise

Thanks for quick reply - going to select cabin on deck 3

If you can chose a specific cabin number at least you will know where you are sleeping ;)

If you do not want to be moved then say NO UPGRADES

As noted a guarantee means you will get at least the category selected and often something of a higher category. Whether a higher category is better can sometimes be subjective as certain cruisers have specific preferences. The cruise company certainly believes that a higher is better as it will usually expect to get paid more to book it.
