Breakaway planned refurbishment??

Recommended Posts

We are booked for the May 20 sailing from Copenhagen. That is to be the second sailing for the Breakaway following her dry dock. Moderno is still available for us to book for dining as are Burn the Floor and Rock of Ages for entertainment. It doesn't appear to me that there will be any changes in dining or entertainment offerings following her refurbishment, but I could be missing something since I'm basing that thought from what we're being offered for our cruise.

I sail on Aug 18th from Copenhagen so looking for a trip report from you when you return :)

Please remind me to reply in mid-June by bumping this post by quoting it. I will, hopefully, receive a notification from CC.

FYI - I doubt any of this will affect your trip, but I'm including the info anyway because it may affect someone reading this thread.

So far, our cruise has had an itinerary change from docking in downtown Stockholm to docking in Nynashamn and some of the scheduled performances of Rock of Ages were cancelled.

Due to the last minute port change, NCL is offering free shuttles to Stockholm. Some who are concerned with the logistics have now booked NCL shore excursions. Others had to contact their private tour companies to ascertain if they would meet at the new location. The docking change also means we will not be cruising the Stockholm archipelago. As of today, NCL has not offered any compensation for the the port change other than the free shuttles.

The cancellation of Rock of Ages on the date of our reservation (night 4) left us with only a 9:30PM choice (night 7). I had to reschedule dining for those nights as well.

Ours as well, disappointed we will not be cruising the archipelago:( Hopefully that's it, as a tad concerned if US/Russia relations escalate they may nix SPB:loudcry::loudcry:

Are they changing the entertainment on the breakaway?

I dont think so

we will cruise the baltic on 21 may and we are still having Burn the Floor and Rock of Ages :D

in dry dock they will do the regularly technical inspectations, which they have to do each 5 years.

if not done while cruising, probably they will change the carpets, which got wet through the big storm in January and some other needed small things.

I dont think, that they will do big changes.

Warning: This is another -Away Class smoke post.

I am still holding on to the hope that they do something to contain the casino (out of concern for the smoke). *Insert post about subjectivity of smoke sensitivity here.*

For those going to the Baltic, I read that the Getaway casino smoke wasn't so bad last year perhaps due to the itinerary and the types of cruisers it draws.

On the Escape they recently added large air purifiers in the casino. We did notice an improvement between our January Escape and recent April cruise. It wasn't perfect but we thought it was much better.

With the ship arriving in Cobh (Ireland) this morning, the dry dock days are quickly approaching!

Will be great to hear from those on the Baltic cruise in a couple weeks as to which changes/updates/additions were made!

We’re following closely, as we’ll be bringing ‘er back to NYC in the Fall!!

Any word on if Moderno is being removed in favor of Los Lobos or Q possibly?

We loved Los Lobos on the Dawn after Refurb. Didn't even need to use UDP as it only cost $29 and we choose to use OBC. :ship:

Sailing BA in 2019 after refurb. I hope they get a "new" restaurant in there!

Totally agree! Los Lobos would be a huge improvement over Moderno. We went to Los Lobos three times on our last Dawn cruise. We normally have been on the larger ships but loving Los Lobos lead us to book the Dawn out of Boston to Bermuda rather than another ship.

We will be on the BA in November out of New Orleans.

I was able to book reservation at Moderno on 7/23, so unless they haven't updated their reservation system, it is planned to still be there.

Has anyone seen official or speculation on which ncl ships may be refurbished in the coming few years?

I just booked the breakaway for a 10 day in April 2019 and at that point the breakaway would be going on 6 years and while that's still young, as a primary ship and one of few large ships sailing from the northeast, just wondering if she may get a small refurb prior to sailing.

What's her current condition? Anyone seeing any wear and tear beginning to happen?

Did any recent BA cruiser hear any details of dry dock plans? Sometimes the officers like to chat at those Meet and Greets!

We are so looking forward to the Breakaway out of New Orleans this fall. We haven't been on her since her Inaugural Season.

We've been asking all over and it appears the Breakaway dry-dock improvements are one of the best kept secrets out there! HAHA!

We should hear something soon, though, as the Baltic Summer cruises start right after the updates!

We're looking forward to bringing her back to NYC on the Transatlantic this October - our first time on the ship! :D

We just made a reservation for Moderno for our 8/27 cruise also, so I don't think they will be putting Los Lobos in - though I would prefer Los Lobos!

This isn't unusual. There is usually only speculation right up until when the ship leaves dry dock, even during a major refit.

If they have done anything significant to the Breakaway then I would expect some sort of press release from NCL quite soon.

Not anymore - she is now off drydock and heading to Copenhagen :) - just now.

Indeed, she's out of the dry dock now and headed to Copenhagen! We are set to sail this Friday, May 11, can't wait! I just spoke with one of the NCL agents and she did mention some refurbishments on:

- electronics, wifi, decor, carpets, USB ports in cabins by the headboard, updated seating areas in restaurants, to name a few.

She suggested to check Cruise Critic for the updated list.

Just my two cents on Moderno. I hope they keep it. In my younger days I could really hurt them on the all you can eat meats. That may be why they may be planning to phase them out on all the ships. Now I am more selective on the type and amount of meat and really enjoy the soup and salad bar and the breads that come with the Moderno experience.

I also like the idea of adding a mexican specialty eatery. Glad to hear Los Lobos has rave reviews on other ships. Doesn't Breakaway already have a Margaritaville on it? November will be our first time to sail on Breakaway. We have the specialty dining package and if Moderno is still there we will making it one of our choices if it is still available.
