Discover credit card.

The Discover Card is not issued in Canada so there are very few merchants that will accept it. Most of these are in the larger cities of Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. You can use it at ATMs for cash at the major banks but if you plan to use a credit card for purchases you should get a MasterCard or Visa, both of which are universally accepted throughout the country.

Fancy stores, fancy restaurants, fancy hotels... and not even all of those. Discover is definitely not a reliable first choice for payment method up here - I'd agree that MasterCard or Visa are the go-to cards if you have time to apply for one of those, nearly universal acceptance (though any credit card without a Chip & PIN will encounter the occasional problem, e.g. paying for transit or parking using machines as there is no operator to override the terminal if it requests a PIN).
