Exchange rate - US to Canadian dollars

I need to purchase some CAD for my upcoming trip. I was considering just getting some from my local bank, but need to know what is a fair rate currently (from a bank of course)?

depending on the port you are visiting, the common ports will accept both USD and CAD and some will give back USD as change. CAD is not really needed.

To make things easier, though, you can just use a bank ATM when you're in Canada and you'll get a fair exchange rate from there also.

Yes, at my credit union. The exchange rate fluctuates constantly. Call me frugal (yea, cheap works also) but I don’t like dealing with foreign transactions fees or ATM charges.

Thanks! I do not like ATM's either, plus we are getting in very late and do not want to mess with it either - just want to jump into a taxi and go to hotel (having the CAD in my pocket ready to go).

Pleased to see Americans want to travel with Canadian money. My Canadian bank today is showing that for me to purchase US I will pay $1.35 for $1.00 US dollar. We always travel with US whatever the exchange rate. You might be surprised that our $1. and $2. are coins and we no longer use pennies.

Yes, I was aware of the $1 and $2 coins and the lack of pennies.

I grew up in Detroit and Canadian money was common there, but then it was near equal value and really not a major problem to swap. Here in Oklahoma it is quite different!!
