Tak Posted August 5, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2018 We'll be at Bar Harbor on Sep 29 along with two other ships, a total of 5000 passengers, between 8 to 5. Can the tender pier , area around it, and the Explorer bus handle this many people? Will the locals expand the bus capacity by having more part time drivers, if they even have that many busses? Northern Aurora Posted August 5, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 5, 2018 We were in Bar Harbor two times last fall and two times earlier this summer. Both times we were on B2B cruises, and actually on the same ship both times. That ship has about 2000 passengers. At least three of the four times there was another cruise ship also tendering. There are two tender dock locations which are close together (about a short city block in distance apart). Each time the other ship was at least as large as ours if not larger in terms of passenger count. I don't know about the Island Explorer, but we last fall we did a walk-up Olli Trolley tour of Acadia National Park. Since we were going to be there twice we didn't pre-book an Olli Trolley tour as we didn't want to do it if the weather was poor.
SailBadtheSinner Posted August 7, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2018 Since September 29 is a Saturday, expect an influx of leaf peeping day trippers, too. It will be crowded. The streets near the tender docks will be packed with tour buses. SBtS
Jiffymom Posted August 9, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 9, 2018 Where most people preboomed on Oli Trolley. I would prefer to wait and see what the weather is like. Anyone know if it’s easy to rent a car

You have to go off island to the Hancock County/Bar Harbor Airport to rent. The distance from the tender dock is about 14 miles on 2 lane state roads. For the 9/29 visit, the roads will be crowded with leaf peeping day trippers. SBtS
