The heavy seas died down around noontime. We are still rocking and it is quite foggy. The decks were open for about an hour but closed again.

Making our way west. We cross the dateline tonight so will go from Thursday to Saturday.

Hi Jim,

Hoping the rest of the sailing will bring calm seas!

Thanks. The morning started out clear and the seas calm. It is noon now and wind picking up. The have again closed the decks for safety reasons.

Payout for casino a little over 10k doesn’t seem to be much action in there.Norma

Hi Norma -

I would have to agree with you. Have seen very few people in the Casino. I would have thought the Casino would have been very busy on all of these sea days.

Last night we decided to give Blu a try. It was an enjoyable evening. The main thing I noticed was that there were a lot more choices than Luminea but the portion sizes seem to be smaller. This isn't a problem for us as we generally enjoy smaller portions and hate to see food wasted and just thrown away.

We both chose pheasant for dinner. It was nicely presented but was overcooked and dry.

Today has been another quiet day at sea. I spent a good part of the day walking and working out at the gym. After a nice lunch in Luminea took a nice nap.

Sunday and yet another day at sea.

Awoke to smooth seas and blue skies. The temperatures are milder and expect 65 for a high today. While out walking noticed a couple people laying in the sun.

From a private request I am posting the menu from Al Bacio.

Monday -

Another relaxing day at sea. Even with turning our clocks back for a 5th night I slept until 9:00 when the butler called that breakfast was on the way. The gentle rocking of the ship is so relaxing and I sleep like a baby.

We invited Anita and Susan (from Southern California) to join us for drinks in Michael's Club and Dinner in Luminea. Last night was the 2nd Chic night. Iain and the girls had lobster while I chose the Chateaubriand. We had a wonderful evening and were surprised to realize we were the last in Luminea chatting away at 11:00 PM.

Tuesday -

I awoke this morning at 7:30. There is a high layer of clouds but the sea is so smooth I had to look closely to see if we were even moving. After seeing nothing except open ocean this morning we are passing the Kuril Islands and entering the Sea of Okhtsk.

Jim,

It is great to hear from you! Your evening in Luminae with Anita and Liz sounds like a wonderful time.

It is nice to know the temps are warming up. I haven't heard from my daughter-in-laws parents' since Sitka. They are in AQ class for the first time and I hope they are enjoying Blu. Bob is a walker like you so perhaps you have crossed paths :).

It was a really nice evening and enjoyed the warm conversation. I’ll look for Bob while out walking. I have managed to get my 20,000 steps in daily but haven’t met any walkers. I walk up and down the hallways when in cold weather. Maybe open decks today.

We are also in Aqua for this cruise. We have found this Blu to be particularly friendly. Blu management found that passengers have been taking longer to dine due to all of the socializing. So maitre 'd Anatoly and seating hostess Simona put on their thinking caps and created several 'share' tables. Solved the issue.

Today all fourteen of the Zeniths and the high end suites were invited to a lunch in Blu. Captain Alex, the staff captain, hotel director, HR person and a few other stripes were there for a total of approximately forty. Lovely time.

Enjoying reading of all your relaxing days at sea and glad to hear the weather has warmed. Continue to enjoy and arrived rested for some fantastic ports ahead!

I think many on the ship are getting anxious for our first port.

We had an interesting morning as we passed by Sarycheb Volcano at 9:00 this morning. Captain Alex came on early and advised he was bringing the ship to a stop and would do a 360 degree spin so all could enjoy.

Sarychev volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the Kuril Island chain streching between Kamchatka and Japan. Large explosive eruptions occured between 11-19 June 2009, sending huge ash coulds to altitudes of up to 14 km, and forcing many flights with routes accross the northern Pacific to be cancelled or diverted.

Really spectacular! We were also rewarded with a couple whales close to the ship on starboard.
