Ponta Delgada - TA - Sunday

We arrive in Ponta Delgado on a Sunday from 7 - 2, we were going to walk around the City but have read most attractions and shopping is closed. Any suggestions or recommendations? Thank You

Lanz, You're right. The City per se is NOT the attraction. It's the Volcanos, HOT springs and lush greenery that make it a great stop; therefor well worth taking a day trip to see. Horta, on the other hand, had a nice famous Marina and quaint little joints like 'Peters'. Don't know how physically fit you are... hard to suggest.

Thank you, we are walking fit but not hiking fit, love to visit little bars and restaurants on the water but may book a tour to see some of the beauty of the island. Last time took a ships tour to Sete Cidades and Crater Lake so will try and see something else ......hopefully we’ll make it in. Thank you

We were there on a Sunday on a TA in November. We didn't want to pre-arrange a tour as the weather can be very temperamental at that time of year. I found a self-guided walking tour on line and we had a very pleasant time wandering around the city - visited various churches, the botanical gardens and generally explored and enjoyed the unusual architecture. There were some souvenir-type shops open in the centre of town and plenty of bars and restaurants open doing a roaring trade with familiies out for Sunday lunch. All the bars and shops around the marina were open

We really enjoyed the port and the calmness and quiet within the streets due to it being a Sunday added to the charm

Dunno if you are on HAL or not. All their ships have a Catholic priest on staff and daily Mass.
